The best players get their arms firing during the downswing enabling them to achieve a high level of ball striking and distance, but how do they do it?
In this video I share with you just how to get the arms firing in the downswing which is something that so many amateur golfers lack.
It often missing because rarely are golfers aware that they should even be making this move, get your arms firing like the pros and you will be well on your way to better golf

This has to be the holy grail of golf on YT. My swing has been some what inconsistent thru out the years. Early this season I discovered what you are teaching on the video. I let my hands and arm “drop” first, before opening my hips and shoulders. Now hitting with much more consistency and gain more distance with every club. My philosophy of this is I’m letting my arms and hands get in sync with my shoulder rotation. Of course your explanation is a much more profession and accurate. I told this to 3 of my friends, it help all of them. It cured 2 of them of their slice with their driver and hitting them 20yd longer

Maybe you should start charging your friends for your words of wisdom 🤣 Great that it has helped you and them, I believe it’s an important part of the swing to get right

I agree so many people say “from the top start to rotate” But like you said If you rotate to early it causes a over the top swing ! Drop the arms then rotate people

…albeit ‘ the body swing’ proves that ‘hips first’ also works well ….you just have to know those mechanics to hit it long and straight…its all about consistency when you play a round…

Thanks Chris, I've had a five year break from playing golf and just started to go back down the range again in the hope of hitting the coarse again soon. Your coaching has been by far the most positive thing anyone could do to learn how to swing a club and build a swing. Great stuff and thanks again.

Thanks. I was struggling with this over the weekend. I was trying to keep my hands up during my downswing. This makes a lot of sense. I had a misconception that if I got my hands down early I would be casting the club.

Best video ever to overhaul my swing. I was so engulfed in the turn and leaving my hands up that all it did was pin my arms to my body with no release. I hit my 7 iron 185 yds but it was left most of the time. The bottom line and the key wakeup call was I was essentially playing golf from impact to the target, I had no speed until impact, arms glued to my chest and tried to get them away but rotation and late release it can never happen. I played yesterday with this concept essentially playing golf from my backswing to impact and it was golf euphoria. As a former professional baseball player I managed through athleticism to play around scratch golf, but the handicap system doesn't recognize the rounds in the 80's of sheer frustration. THIS IS THE BEST VIDEO EVER. BRAVO👏

Hey Chris, Thanks you as usual for outstanding teaching! I have to say I'm a realist so the most important thing I've learned about the game of golf is play within yourself, know your abilities, example, when we look at videos from the Pros I know ill never look or swing like them but if I understood the golf swing better , like I don't believe in positions I believe in Forces and the way the human body actually works to get the most out of the swing! And of course if I don't practice ,practice what I'm learning none of it's possible ! Thanks again Chris your a Natural Teacher, you break down the golf Swing Beautifully!

This video was gold for me. The description of the takeaway line I have heard before, but the way you showed where the club should end up also, that feeling of reaching up really feels like what was missing from my swing. I never used to be able to hit 4 and 3 iron and woods. Now I just had a range session where I clipped those easily. Also driver improved a lot. Every club feels much more natural and goes further during that session. Looking forward to keep practicing with these key pointers. Thanks!
@richardjohnson-tb5pz
@richardjohnson-tb5pz 2 года назад
Good stuff. A simple and clear explanation is good thing for most of us. From what I have been able to glean from recent studies is that there is a slight lateral shift off the ball in the takeaway, then a recentering at the top, and then the lower body leads the rotation in the transition, but the upper body moves a fraction of second later, so that for all practical purposes you rotate your whole body during the transition. As far as what has helped me most in golf, I would say correct knowledge with proper application. There is a lot of good information out there now about the golf swing. The problem is choosing what works best for you. The secret is still in the dirt in my opinion. Thanks

Very good tutorial Chris, explained the concepts nicely. Showing that the golf swing requires a sequence of good moves to produce a good end result. The problem is that one bad move can ruin it all. I liken the golf swing to asking someone to throw a frisby with their left arm and a cricket ball with right arm simultaneously - it can be done but needs a lot of patience and practice.

This thought/feel pattern will help a LOT of people. Online instruction is difficult because not everyone has the same swing fault or feels but this concept is CRITICAL to understand. Everyone thinks of "leading with the lower body" differently. for me leading with the lower body thought led to years of over the top chunking the ball on bad days and 10-15 yard low slices that i could play on a GOOD day. I took a lesson and this concept is one of the first things he said after seeing my swing. was literally told to think of "only swinging with fast arms." ended up syncing my movements with arms and body for the first time ever. I felt like i wasnt turning at all but in reality I was. for people with my issue instruction like this is golden.

Just a great video....again Chris! A clip from Peter Cowen explaining to Matsuyama that move brought me here to your video. Very well explaned, I'm a 64 years old single digit handicap with the old "Hogan mentality" which everything has to start from ground up. This video brakes apart from it and brings so much new concepts of the modern swing and throw the "spinner" concept into the garbage. Can't wait to start practicing it without hitting ball first to master it. 😊👍

I look forward to trying this. I have tried shallowing the club but can’t get used to it. I don’t feel like I can be consistent with it. You asked what has improved our game. I would say my iron play for me They can still go a bit off at times slight pull, slice and a poor draw if you like. Good contact most of the time. If not on the green close enough to at least try to chip and putt. A bit more distance with the big dog and a bit straighter shooting single figures will soon be a reality one hopes

This move is a game changer but it feels so counter intuitive until you commit to hitting a ball with it. The distinction between lowering the hands and shallowing the club was important for me to hear as I was trying to add the shallowing move after getting used to the dropping move and now I think I'll focus more on what's the balls doing to see if shallowing is needed. Although when both are working together I do get that 'baby draw' that feels so good :)

All lessons have been helpful but I think the course management has been the most helpful for me.

I think more golfers should spend some time focusing on course strategy, I think I could probably reduce a golfers score significantly by just looking at how they play, so important.

Hey Chris, very helpful video, thank you. After a month of daily practice to attempt to fix my swing I've finally realized how important it is to fire the arms. Especially for me being that I am 6'6" I was wondering if you don't mind sharing how tall you are?

What helped me the most was three crucial "must-happen" things I figured for myself, to be deliberately aware of during the swing. One: Head must stay centered - don't sway to the right. This is a huge, unconscious tendency in my swing which I have to consciously override, or else I hit fat or thin. Two: Left arm totally straight (but completely relaxed) at moment of impact. My tendency is to pull my arm up just before impact. Three: Zero vertical up-down body and head movement after address. No "pro-level" squatting for me! If I do these 3 things I can be quite confident that a clean strike will result.

Excellent video as usual. I have a question, when I do that move, the 90 degrees angle of my right elbow will be lost ? I heard that one should keep that angle just after impact. Thanks in advance.

Hi Chris, love your video! Can you talk about how to prevent over back swing? My club pass parallel at the top, I have hard to time to bring the handle down to lower point than I started. Also, my hand is outside my right thigh when the club is parallel to ground before impact.
