I can see the problem but I don't really get to know how to solve it. Are there any drills you would recommend to improve the connection?

Try to only use a little bit of leg movement after the catch. So before your legs are stretched half way (or less) get your blade out and go to catch position again. It is like quarter slide from the front. With such short leg drive you will notice if you are connected early or not. Maybe someone understands and could explain with correct terms in good english :D
