In my lab I just glazed the highest rx I've ever seen. -29.25 which we used a 1.74 blended lenticular for. The results were incredible. So I appreciate that you mentioned bevel position and hand finishing the chamfer because they make a huge difference in the cosmetics.

I’m in near tears because I’ve been struggling to find a good eye dr and GOOD opticians who know what they’re doing when it comes to difficult prescriptions and are the literal opposite of the philosophy you stated at 5:44. I have a very high Rx and this WHOLE YEAR, I’ve been trying to get glasses that work because I’ve developed strabismus in my left eye and it’s due to the lens not being right time and time again and it’s slowly getting worse. To the point where I can’t drive with a patch over my left eye. I wish you were in my town. 😢 You actually understand how the shapes and materials matter and how they interact and affect each other. That means there has to be others who can help me. I hope I can find them.

Great video. I've been spoiled by my optician when I was a kid, he was a true artisan with 50 years of experience in his field and every pair of glasses was hand adjusted to perfection. I really struggled to find a good optician in the last decade until recently.

Robert, I found your channel a few weeks ago and really have enjoyed watching almost every video you have made over the past couple of years. This one by far was my biggest Ahah moment. I wore contacts for 30 years then as I aged I made the move to glasses 11 years ago. Not sure why but I have always been drawn to rectangle shaped glasses and as a result have not liked how thick my glasses look. My prescription is -7.5 ish and now I watched this video and understand why. Thank you for what you do, education today is so very important. In a world of do it yourself and take no responsibility for anything I for one appreciate you! I really want to set up a consulting appointment with you, I am just a little apprehensive about can I truly get my perfect pair of glasses via a video conference? Great video Robert and testament to why I chose The Spectacle Factory for my eyewear collection some 12 months ago! WIth the sunny weather over the past few weeks, I'm currently loving my Walter & Herbert sunglass frame with Zeiss Adaptive Sun lenses which are a totally effortless pleasure to wear at this time of the year. I was fascinated by this video. In 40+ years of buying glasses I don’t think I’ve ever been told the relationship between thickness and shape. I’d love to see a video on shape of glasses to face shape (forgive me if you’ve already done one, if so please point me to it). I’ve always felt circular/rounded frames do not suit me but even with a high prescription (-12 left eye and -18 in right due to keratoconus but that’s usually matched to left prescription) I’ve always gone for more rectangular. Maybe I need to go with the rounded shape now?

This is one of the best videos I have watched out yet about thin lenses. Mostly, people talk about going for high index lenses to make it thin. But you are on another level. Sadly, I am from India and I might not be able to afford the charges of a spectacle from your store with all the different charges. I wish I could get a Zeiss SV high index lenses with a perfect frame for my oval face shape and high power. I have SPH -7 CYL -2 approx in both eyes and my glasses usually come quite thick. 😢

I confirm. 90% of opticians will say that "there's no glass lenses available" in the manufacturer's production range. Lol.

I live in Canada. I had Zeiss lenses (likely manufactured in Canada or the USA) about ten years ago that I was SO happy with. Then I got Hoya a few years ago and have been unhappy with them since the start. They were so much thicker. I have a high prescription but the Hoya were twice as thick! So heavy, always falling down my face. And definitely not hand-finished, they have huge sharp edges. I hear you say you work with clients worldwide; I’m just wondering how that works out with unique eye conditions. For example, I have been (clinically) diagnosed with Axenfeld-Rieger Syndrome because I have many of the optical and dental expressions associated with that. I guess I’m a bit skeptical-but also hopeful-that you may be able to help me from afar. I look forward to your response! Have a great day, and thanks for this helpful and informative video.

Is there a new high definition material except for plastic or glass? The most thick glass 1.9, is it strong enough to survive from a fall of 1,5m high? I LOVE these videos. Thank you for being so informative. I've recently purchased some new lenses from an online store and they recommended 1.6 thinning as it has the best clarity. Now I'm a -10.00 in both eyes...This was not a good decision on their part to sell me a product that would not look good in frame. I don't know why they didn't suggest 1.74's even though it was more expensive. Do you do consultations over the phone? I would love to see what price ranges and lenses would be best for me. I've recently been advised by professionals that Tokai are a great lens for high prescriptions.

So one question. Doesn’t CR39 material also give a thin lense? Doesn’t it also have a good refractive index and high abbe value like glass? If the manufacturers all use the same material, as a consumer, why should I chose Zeiss over Rodenstock? This is my question. Btw great work on the glass material and you are right, in my prt of the world (Middle east) opticians want to do the least work so recommend what can be quickly done with a good margin than recommend according to the customer. thank you I was gonna ask you about this I really wanted to know about aspherical lens. Also for low prescription like is -4 aspherical worth it with a rectangle frame? I wish I could play with the software any good website calculators? what are the disadvantage to them I was reading they can feel funny to the wearer and they take time to get used to? Nice work on the last pair impressive I def got some poorly made lenses and been like what were they thinking. Im glad you touched on the frame and how that all relates. It hard with my narrow pd sometimes rectangle frames if they are too big will actually just feel off when I wear them. Hi Robert, I’ve just been recently looking for contents on lenses and you, my favourite channel for eyewear, upload another BANGER video about it 😆😆 Thank you so much! However there’s still something about lenses that bugs me a lot : the distorted images of facial features through lenses with higher prescriptions ( e.g. sph:-650 and cyl:150) . I notice that the lenses you wear in the videos always produce a smooth, natural face contour. May I know if your lenses are of lower power or correction-free? I understand that double aspheric lenses can help address this distortion rather effectively…will 1.76 DAS from Tokai or an average 1.74 DAS from any brand perform better than a 1.9 glass lens, or even premium options like Zeiss 1.74 ClearView/ Superb/ SmartLife?And would a higher refraction index, thinner lens finishing, and edge polishing also help🤔? I reckon that frame size and shape also matter. Yet smaller frames and circular shapes may produce quite a compromising look on some people🥲🥲. I wondered if bridge length, vertex distance, and lens tilt should also be taken into consideration as well. There is very little information on addressing lens distortion on the internet, whether on webs or RU-vid channels . I believe this is a crucial issue on the aesthetics of a pair of glasses, as it can significantly impact a person's physiognomy. If possible, could you consider discussing this topic in a video? It would greatly benefit many fellow bespectacled netizens and help us make better choices.

Ever since I found them you really became my role model in terms of presentation, style and knowledge. Thank you for that! I have a question about glass lenses that you mentioned in this video. Where I work we usually try to avoid glass material, not because of the extra work but because of the weight and safety issues it might lead to for the customer if they break due to an accident for example. I agree that they are often put in a negative light so I was wondering if you could give me your take on this. Always trying to learn from different sources. I really appreciate what you do!

Hi Robert, I've just got single vision glasses 3 days ago (sphere -2.0 and cylinder -0.5 in both eyes), and this is the first time I've worn glasses (I've never worn contact lenses either). I understand that I need to take time to adjust to glasses, however I'm struggling with chromatic aberration where I'm seeing blue and yellow outlines on objects that aren't in my direct line of vision both horizontally and vertically. Even looking down at my phone through the bottom of my glasses is hard. I've read that the type of lens material can reduce this due to the ABBE number. I'm not sure what material I currently have as I was never asked by the opticians to choose a material, I was only asked to pick a frame. The frame I chose is similar to a classic rayban sunglasses frame. What ABBE value or lens material would you recommend for me to minimise or get rid of the chromatic aberration? I apprentice passion to help as the eye glasses industry has been over taken by the fashion industry and no longer caters to individuals with real problems. My own prescription is very high, -23 and -25 and I've not been able to get my glasses looking as aesthetically pleasing as you have despite using high index 1.74. Thank you for this video. I'm not sure if it warrants another video, but I am interested to know what you do to help prevent the lens edge from looking "white" inside a frame. My prescription is only -2.00, and some labs seem better than others at tackling this issue. For example, I have heard some labs polish the edges in order to make the edges look less white (with one downside being reflections for the eyeglass wearer)?

Hi, I just got my glasses with Flair rimless frame and Photofusion X Pioneer with Jade Duravision Flash and I love them, they look really beautiful. But I have a very big problem. I am seeing so much glare, it's driving me crazy. The glare is really bad; I have the feeling my glasses are not clean even though they are perfectly clean. I did them in Zeiss shop in Germany. Love the video! With the Reykjavik Eyes Glasses that cut into the lense, do the lenses need to be a certain minimum thickness on the side? For example with + lenses that are thinner on the sides?

Even today, when wearing glasses is by and large seen as cool, the thick ''coke-bottle'' lenses remain unflattering. Luckily, even those with relatively strong prescriptions don't have to settle for extremely thick lenses.

SMH I had ones that looked like the breaking bad ones the lens suck In them distorted curve look when looking thru them I just ordered new ones after a new exam 3 years later or so after the ones from americas best sucked hopefully these work nicely there rounded rectangle tho i wish I saw this vid earlier the issue I’m told is smaller the .frame where the lens go the thinner the lens . .
