Hey guys welcome to another mytanfeet video, in this one we are going to show you to Santa teresa from san jose international airport by taking the ferry from Puntarenas so let's go.
We left the San Jose International Airport area and headed west on Route 27 to go to our first destination, Puntarenas. Puntarenas is where we need to go to catch the ferry that will take us across the Gulf of Nicoya and it's about a hour and a half drive from San Jose.
So one note when you're driving on this route if you guys need a bathroom, get gas or snacks or whatever we highly recommend a gas station called Delta, they have the cleanest bathrooms that I've seen in Costa Rica for gas stations or rest stops.
On the way to Puntarenas, you'll pass a coastal town called Caldera, there are a lot of snack stands here because they are famous for chuchhills which is a Costa Rican shaved ice.
Soon you'll reach the town of Puntarenas and you just have to keep drivig all the way down Route 13 until you see the ferry dock. You can't miss it, as you'll see the ferries waiting there and lots of cars around.
The ticket office is right across from the ferry loading dock so if you need to purchase your ticket, this is where you'll go. We purchased our tickets online the day before, on a website called QuickPay. It's very easy and convenient and all we had to do was show the ticket confirmation on our phone to the ferry attendant and he told us where to go. We'll have a link in the description below on how to buy tickets online.
After we boarded the ferry and parked the car, we walked up to the top level to enjoy the views. The ferry has bathrooms, outdoor and indoor seating with air conditioning and a small cafe. The ferry ride takes about one and a half hours and when we reached the other side to Paquera, we got off the ferry and continued on the road south going around the Nicoya Peninsula to get to Santa Teresa.
This part of the route has paved roads and you'll drive past the town of Paquera, Tambor, and Cobano before reaching Santa Teresa. When you are past Cobano and almost at Santa Teresa, the road becomes unpaved. We took this video in September, in the peak of rainy season so you can see some big potholes.
There is now a paved short section of the main road of Santa Teresa but majority of the roads are unpaved, especially going up the mountains of Santa Teresa.
Santa Teresa is a hip surf and yoga town that has grown quite a bit in popularity the last few years. The best things to do in Santa Teresa is surf, relax, watch the sunset on the beach and just have a good time.
The entire travel day took us around 5 hours including the ferry time. The ferry is a really fun way to break up the drive and you get to see some different views of the Gulf of Nicoya so we highly recommend this way to get to Santa Teresa.
We hope this video was helpful for you and see you guys in the next one.

Nice video, thank you. Are dogs allowed on the ferry? I have a medium/large 60lb fur daughter I'm planning to take with me.

I heard the main road from the airport is closed due to the rainy season and landslides that killed several, people. Do you know if I have to book a flight right now to get to the fairy and then Santa Teresa? I am leaving this week and have never been…a little stressed about this journey.
