This is my decoy set up when turkey hunting in most situations. I like pairing a gobbler decoy with a breeder hen. Let me know your thoughts on this in the comment section or email me if you have any questions.

Great video! Very informative. I've killed 5 of my last 6 turkeys at 11-12 yards. I basically use my Funky Chicken (a real wimpy skinny jake decoy) at 11 yards facing away from me. Then I put a hen decoy sitting on the ground about 3 feet in front. Then, about half the time, I use another hen decoy walking relaxed about 5-6 yards away. They always first come and give the jake decoy a good beating. Afterwards, I had one hump my breeding hen decoy for 8 minutes before shooting the mature tom. With enough skill and patience, it's very exciting shooting them real close. Enjoy your turkey hunt this coming spring. God bless you and your family.

I honestly didn't think there was a person on earth that uses the funky chicken, so wow, that's impressive! I feel is way more exciting when they're 15 yards and under. Can't get enough of it! Good luck and be safe out there !

Hey now. This is a very, very informative video. You need to remove it before someone on my hunting club sees it.

I have only once had luck with decoys, every other time I had to get up and move to the gobbler leaving the decoys behind.

Decoys don't always work. Here in PA it's illegal to move towards a gobbler. Crazy right!?

Close shot vs. long shot. What choke to use, what load? I have debated this so long with myself I have decided the best turkey gun is a double barrel with different chokes and different loads in each barrel to be ready for close or long shots. I don't have one, though.
@JaseOutdoors
@JaseOutdoors Год назад
Lol yea, you're exactly right. I don't have one either but that might be the way to do it
@wtfserpico
@wtfserpico Год назад
If you can't make that happen just choose what you are comfortable shooting, or go shoot what you have until you are comfortable. I use the same choke and Remington Nitro Turkey 3.5's with 6 shot. I've been using the same combo for 15 years and so I know just what to expect at different ranges. Turkey hunting is just like every other kind of hunting, where practice, preparation and experience all add up.

@@wtfserpico So far, I've been OK with a turkey choke and Winchester Long Beards. If I expect a close shot, I use a lighter (1 3/8 oz.) load of #6. I am considering testing the Long Beards with a modified or standard full choke. Long Beards are pretty expensive for testing, though, plus my shoulder can't take many of those in a day when testing. The 1 3/8 oz. loads are low velocity and make a beautiful pattern at 20 - 25 yards. The pattern gets kind of thin at 40.

I have a breeding hen with a full strut decoy. Is this a combo that would work together or I would you recommend another combination with the breeding hen
@JaseOutdoors
@JaseOutdoors Год назад
I personally like a jake decoy paired with a breeding hen. A strutting decoy can be intimidating to a long beard that may have already got his butt looked.

Bro much better success if you face the decoys away from where the gobbler is at cause he might hang up thinking the hem will come to him
@JaseOutdoors
@JaseOutdoors Год назад
That's a big negative, but do as you wish! This is just how I do it. Do u happen to see how many turkeys I kill each year? At the end of the day, it's only wrong when it doesn't work. Hah. Good luck out there!
