Do you have an crested gecko that refuses to eat insects? In that case, I have a good tip for you that can get your crested Gecko to start eating them. Crested geckos do not need to eat insects, but it is good if they do. Then they grow faster. Follow if you love lizards!

⚠️PLEASE READ⚠️ Your crested gecko doesn’t HAVE to eat insects. If your worried or have this problem, make sure to put the insects in your geckos cage so they eat it on their own. I hope this helped!

This can be dangerous with certain insects. For example, crickets move arround A LOT, so they will be easily found by your pet. But if they dont want to eat it the crickets become a problem, since they are omnivorous they may bite your gecko, wich may develop in an infection and rot. Other insects like mealworms may just hide away and pupate. There are exeptions, but generaly, dont do this

I place my crestie into a ventilated box with a cricket when I feed him, he sees the movement of the cricket running and always pounces on it.

My geckos feeding response is ridiculous. I have to leave my hand a few inches away from him for a few seconds before picking him up every time so he doesn’t bite me thinking he’s getting some insects 😂

I wish. At least feeding him isn’t a problem. My gecko ate the crickets I got from Petco but would barely even take them out of my fingers. He refuses to eat these other crickets I just got from a different store. I don’t know if the species change turned him off or what.

THANK YOU! My crestie is 14 years old and from what I can tell, she hasn’t ever eaten insects (before I got her a couple months ago). I’ve been sitting with her for up to 45 mins just trying to get her to eat an insect but she always just moves her head away. What’s strange is that she always licks her lips and moves her head in a way that she can see the insect but she never actually goes for the bite. (She’s only ever eaten for me 1 time). She won’t hesitate to eat her fruit mush or small peices of banana as a treat once a week or two. I’ll try this next time, thanks so much lol

Crested geckos and geckos in general are are very shy when being hand fed or fed outside the cage. My buddy would only eat inside his cage for a year before he was comfortable eating around me.

Well that’s just great, my crested gecko could potentially have the exact opposite problem that my bearded dragon that I do have currently has; he refuses to willingly eat his vegetables, so i practically have to shove them down his throat, but he loooves his bugs. I will definitely have to introduce a varied diet early into my creative’s diet when I get one.

Additionally if you hand feed them ever you can dip the roach in the sauce a little to season it, my gecko had a poor feeding response but eventually i trained her to have a strong response

Thank you So much!!! My Crested will not eat them. I have smashed the bug, and added the juices to the Pangea. The Pangea does have fly larvae….but I want her to get all the benefits of the whole insect. I will try this tonight. Thank you!!!! 😊😊

That’s a good tip! Mine only eats insects if he sees them walk around so I usually put him in a separate container with a few crickets. The’ll be gone in secondes haha!

You can also crush the spine or mid section but allow the insect to still move around and squirm to attract a more natural feeding response

I have been doing this! It works really well personally. My gecko only reacts to crickets but I don't like feeding them live for personal reasearch. But crushing them gets my gecko to realize the smell and he takes em. Great tenique

I have 2 of them and i use these technique except that i submerge the insect in repashy so the insect smell like fruit and the gecko become more interest on the prey.

I found Cresties like to take their sweet time!Whether it’s a bug or Pangea. Since mine was a baby (he’s still a baby 4 months old)I haven’t got him to eat on his own I have to hand feed him every time😅! He is atleast eating now so I’m not complaining I was worried sick the first week he wouldn’t eat AT ALL!! Which is totally normal! But now how do I get him to not only eat out of the dish but the dish that’s in the holder in his cage…? PLZ send tips!!

I can't believe all the info I learned was wrong! I bought the expensive guecko food with crushed insects a while back, but I was wondering why my gecko is still small. So they do need incects. I bought it crickets but she didn't care for them. I just went to check on her and caught her eating the moss patch. 😢 I've been failing her 😢 I did buy her dried chickets and will try squishing them or rubbing her regular food on it to tempt her. My crestie refuses to eat anything other than insects and this past week I have ran out and in where I live it’s really hard to find insects. My poor baby is so skinny please tell me how to get hime eating healthily 😢 Edit: he only likes eating moving/live insects, and leaves the less actives ones alive to die. He doesn’t like actual fruits and I’ve also tried a bunch of different powder formulas.

mannn i have my crested gecko for 3 months now and he ate larvae only the first 2 days. I tried almost every day and he kept refusing to eat them. I thought he just wants to be vegan and fed him only banana with some cansium and multivitamin powder. I just tried your method and it worked instantly. Thank you so much. Be blessed
