Thank you so much for this and Step 6! That step 6 confirmed that I need to make some changes to my schedule, cause I'm in my late 30's and I've realized that i can not do all nighters like I used to lol
Exactly. It's way better to have a sustainable long term plan than an unsustainable push. Best of luck on your studies and thanks so much for watching 😊🙌
I am planning to get my bachelor's in social work with WGU. All this is new to me so far i haven't come across anyone doing any videos about WGU SOCIAL work program any advice 4me‽
Thank you! This information is very helpful. Congrats 👏 on graduating so quickly!!! I'm pursing the same degree and your input in the WGU Facebook group is so motivating also.
In your experience, how often would these exams you took be proctored? Was it the midterm, final, both? Was it every class or just some classes? Just curious.
The speed reading info is great! You break that down for some of us that have not understood speed reading and trying to understand everything. I started learning speed reading a couple years ago, and finally understood not to read Every word and Absorb every word. You can skim through and then see the key things to pick up on.
Awesome video Manny! Thanks for uploading it. I'm currently finishing my last class of my first term in my Master's of Data Analytics at WGU. I also work on a data analytics team in WGU. Those are some great points and I plan on using those my next term and beyond! Thanks again!
I’ve been reading people complaining about videos/posts like this in the WGU communities.. They say it lowers the value of the degree as outsiders will See it as a lower not serious degree. Mostly because the title don’t offer the experience and everything that went into graduating in 6 months..
Hi Manny, I'm planning to start WGU by March first and I'm going for CS degree because my goal is to become a Data Scientist. Since you are a data expert what is you recommendation to me is the CS road is the best or the data analyst to become a data scientist?
Definitely a data analyst degree will serve you better for the data scientist route. I would say for data science you would need to pursue more statistics above the degree. Once you get the data analyst degree topping it off with a few data science certs will give you more of an emphasis to call yourself a data scientist. That said, a data scientist varies from job to job. So it all depends specifically what field are you going into (utilities, medical, etc...)
Hi Manny, my question is how much material is covered in a course? For instance, my Network and Communications course at my university covered 12 chapters of the course book For lower division.. How much material does a similar course cover at WGU?
Absolutely. It's opened countless doors for me. I'm now a director in data analytics. While the degree serves as an initial checkbox, new technologies like generative AI have truly propelled my career to new heights. If I were in school now, I would prob choose a degree that also incorporates gen ai. Other than that, the degree has been great to have
Nm . You would need to get in contact with your course mentor and discuss it. I failed a few and I just basically emailed them, advised them I would study the parts flagged as deficient, and they just unlocked it for me to retake
Hello! I have been in Desktop Support/ Helpdesk support for 15 years now. I am ready to move on to something new. I have been looking at Data Management myself at WGU. What advice do you have in mind for someone starting off in Data Management?
Hey David. That's a great career path. What I've found for Data Management, having a strong IT background is helpful, but having a business understanding is equally if not more important . I think your Help desk background will serve you great to get started on the degree and some of the courses (like the Network+) will directly take advantage of your help desk experience.
I'd be starting with 0 credits, most people i see already have credits they transferred in, is the 6 months still possible when starting from scratch with a full time job?
It will be challenging but doable. I finished mine in 5 months with 28 credits transferred. If you keep a good pace you should be able to get it done for sure
Just because it works for you doesn't mean it works for everyone. This solely varies from person to person depending on theirbexperience and background. If they have no I.T experience. They could be starting from Zero that could take 3 to 4 years to complete. There is no formula.
hey man! so I saw that the classes for the cyber security major were like 70 percent the same as the courses for data analytics major. did you ever think about double majoring and seeing how long that would of taken?
Was that your entire Bachelor's degree in 6 months, or did you have transfer credits? I was able to transfer in over half of credits from my Associates Degree & I'm still not sure I'll be finishing in 6 months! Your video is helpful & inspiring, so maybe I can try to push through & get 'er done by the end of February!
Seeing your facebook posts on WGU Accelerators IIRC have been a huge motivation for me. Your tips have also been the best ones i have received so far, but I do have one question. What do you do for certificate preperation? I understand the speed reading process would work there too, but for classes like C846 (ITIL Foundations) there was no PA or module tests that were challenging. How do you go about practice tests for those types of classes?
For the ITIL I used the same technique, but instead of a PA, I used practice tests online. Specifically, there is an ITIL app for about 4-5 bucks a month that gives you practice tests. Hope this helps and thank you so much for watching my video
@@DataManny thanks! So basically the same method, but it brings in supplementary information. Btw, I watched this video the day after starting my intro to cryptography class, it changed my whole method of studying and I passed the OA last night. This method is killer!!!
While it may take a bit longer, I would suggest pursuing a degree that you are passionate about. The content can be quite boring so having passion will let you get through it quicker
For someone wanting to complete most of the courses for transfer before enrolling in the same degree you chose, how would you recommend choosing what courses to take first
It depends on the courses your are transferring. I would say the layout of courses they put is pretty well structured. The only courses I moved around were the certification ones to spread it out more
Hello, Great Video! I have a Question. So What are the GPA requirements for WGU? i had a 1.8 in HS. but In College i had a 4.0 i want to transfer to a university will it be possible ?
Thanks for the tips, Im trying to "cheat" my way into the school, since Im an international student Im not allowed but, ill pretend Im in the US because its all online, my only fear are the certificates, how the voucher works, and how do you take those tests. Any roadblocks that I may bump into? let me know, and thanks for the video. keep up the good work.
I followed you from the beginning with your WGU facebook posts. Your definitely an inspiration I'm just starting my data management/analytics journey and I already feel overwhelmed.
