I am looking into a uxui boot camp and narrowed it down to Springboard, Designlab and Avocademy due to affordability. Does anyone have any negative critiques that could help eliminate a program? I learned the music production, graphic design and professional photography on my own, but made many mistakes along the way, hence, my interest in a program.
I’ve heard about Springboard and it sounds pretty good. However, I can’t answer your question because I didn’t take a bootcamp course. I’ve pinned your comment so that other viewers can see and respond to your questions 😊
@@talanceastevenson8730 I'm leaning towards Avocademy because it's price point and because I have an MBA in Business, but I'm also reluctant because it's a newer program and there is not enough information online about it. Is your mentor industry knowledgeable? How many real business portfolios will you have upon project completion? Anything else you'd like to add would be helpful
@@angelcamus393 well there is two programs if you take the foundations you will have one project on your portfolio , I also took designlab but I left and joined Avocademy, mentors are nice some of them are past students, I’ll tell you more in a few when I wake all the way up lol
This video is made for everyone who's working to become a UX designer 😄 I hope it's helpful! (And I kinda hate myself for pronouncing "role" as "rule" but you probably understand what I meant.)
Hai alinea you are doing great job! i have done a 6 months certification course in UX UI Design and now i am looking for career upgrade could you please suggest me any master course in ux or somthing advanced ux course .Thank you🙂
Thanks a lot Aliena for each video you make, you are so helpful and every advice is important and means a lot to me 🤗 I'm currently studying the Google certificate, and about finishing it so your videos are on the goal for me..thx again, and I just want to know how can I find a real client to work my real portfolio study case?
I wish I could have watched this video earlier! I made so many mistakes while looking for a UX designer job in 2024. Thanks for your sharing, those tips are so helpful!!
interviews are like flirting, match the energy of the recruiter, speak their langage, be confident, and definitely know what u are talking about. I just discovered ur channel, great job Aliena, these tips are so good to hear !!
Wow.... I was happy just seeing the title oG the video. Not just for you but for myself as well. I want to take the google course and I'm not sure how employable I'll be after that. I'm glad to hear how far you've come... Cheers
you know, there’s so many videos and guides online that tell you how to become and to get a job but you’re the only one i trust, it’s like your energy is sincere and you truly want to help people step their foot in this career. thank you for that. i’m in an 1 year bootcamp (ends in october), i’m in some slacks but i haven’t worked in real life projects YET and haven’t really started networking. i predict i’ll start applying around may and june maybe? just diving in haha i’m just waiting for when i feel confident with my skills because i’ve never worked in my life and i know the anxiety would kick in if i’m not prepared lmao ok long text. thank you thank you for this video you’re an angel 🥺 as a question: do you feel more comfortable doing ux or ui?
Hi there, my work experience is also close to zero before I enter the field of UX. I understand the self doubt and fear you are having. I had that too, and I’m proud of what you are doing now. Regarding your question, I’m comfortable with both UX and UI, but more excited about UX 😀😀
@@AlienaCai your words are so encouraging, thanks! and eng isn’t my first language so yeah i meant being excited about one 😅 personally i feel the same, ux is some lively stuff
I've seen many people with the 2 column CV being successful too. Didn't worked out to me. You can give it a try for the 1 column ones and updating the content again. Wish you all the best 🙌
I really dont now how right that is. My first Job wanted a unique CV to see how i work with grid, rows and Design rules. And i can say, thats a big tech Company :) I'm a design/IT student and working student^^
Hi Aliena! It's a great video! I gain a lot of insight as a person who still learn on UX Design and one thing I always wondering is that "Is the social media presence important?" like you create an Instagram account that share's insight, or etc? It will be helpful if you can reply it! Thanks!
This is a great question. For me, social media presence (RU-vid) helped me a lot in my job search. Most of my interviewers have seen my RU-vid videos and I had a greater chance of getting opportunities because of this channel. However, I strongly suggest you think about what you like to do and your personal strengths before jumping into creating a Instagram account and sharing insights. I still think the most important thing we need to have is strong design skill and good projects. Media is a leverage to present our design skills and projects, but the foundation is still design skill and projects 😄 Hope this helps ❤️
@@AlienaCai Wow! That's a great answer! I always doubt starting Instagram Account and thinking that HR won't take a look at it, but your answer makes me feel comfortable to move forward. Thank's! 😆
@@AlienaCai Hello Aliena, i saw your video, it was very inspiring, i have been studying ux design for sometime now, in fact i am doing the same course that you did, the google ux course from coursera, i am also learning how to use figma, i am studying all sorts of tutorials on youtube and trying to understand how to design different components, practicing those tutorials, the most difficult part for me while working in figma is the interaction design, making components interactive and responsive is very time consuming and challenging, but i am getting there, i wanted to ask you while studying ux design were you involved with social media groups, people who have same interests as you, if so i would like to join them, i need help, i need people to critique my work and give me feedback so i can quickly improve, if you can share some links to communities that i can join to share ideas i would be very grateful.
@@iftekharulhaque2697 I recommend you look up Slack groups. There are a ton of them for volunteer work, networking, hackatons, etc., they are free and they tend to be more professional than Facebook groups, at least in my experience.
Hi Annie! I’m currently enrolled in a boot camp course and came across your videos. I would love to set up a time to ask you some brief questions about the industry if you have time!
Hi Aliena! First, thank you so much for sharing these fantastic tips. It has helped me so much mentally to keep going. One question: When you applied those approx. 15 jobs per day in Indeed... did you only send your resume out there or did you send a cover letter as well that you modified for each position?
Hi Aliena! Thanks for sharing valuable key points and you are amazing. I have a question about resume. Which points need to add in resume for fresher or self taught UI/UX designer?
Hi Aliena..so I have been watching your channel for a while now and it has been nothing but an eye opener for me. Thank you very much. But in this video, you said we should go for a one column resume, I’m currently taking the UX course but they advise two column resume. Please can you clear me on that. Thank you
One column resume is easier for resume scanners. If you hope to use one resume and mass apply to many large companies, I would suggest you to do that. If you are focusing on applying jobs on platforms such as indeed, it's fine to have 2 columns resume, because it's people not machine that scan your work.
This is a great question. I did it through networking on Linkedin and increasing my social media present as a designer. But different people have different strength, so there's no single answer to this. I'm sure you'll figure a way to get one and all the best 👍
just a question, theres no difference between UI/UX and UX designer is there? Im trying to become a UI designer only. would that be possible? or do companies prefer more UI/UX over UI only?
If you know all the UI stuff, you can just look at a few videos to understand the UX side (it’s less technical and pretty much a framework for problem solving) I still suggest you to go after roles named UIUX designer because you can totally do the work and the pay could be higher 👍🏼
sorry need to get something straight with this sample it was stated that you went to university ranging from 2017 to 2021 but you stated in your experience that you start your intern as a ux designer from 2018 and other working experience please explain this better
Thanks for your response I really like your resume sample, I just changed my cv to this exam format please I don't mind if you can put me through some step by dropping your email for more questions Thanks
Hey Aliena I competed my foundation of google ux design course on Coursera Should I complete alll seven course? Did you completed all of those ? Or do other ux courses ? Actually my main focus and interest in web development and I have intermediate knowledge of reactjs and node js etc And my other question is - I completed my foundation ux course on Coursera but unable to see my certification
Hi, if you want to become a UX designer, definably complete the others. If it's in web development, I suggest you to enroll in a web development course (I know udemy has an awesome web dev course and I've taken a few of those.) Regarding your certificate, Coursera recently requires you to go through an identity check. So if you go to your accomplishment page, I remember there's a small identity check text somewhere on the page. Once you finish that, you should be able to see your certificate.
You're one of the rare RU-vidrs who actually put out info that is important and not just repeating everything that others already said. Thank you so much for teaching me something new today and helping me improve!
I appreciate what you said in the end, "...if you can improve a little bit in design every single day, then there is no way you cannot find a design role". Very motivating. Loved this video! New to your channel and I'm already hooked. I'm currently in a UX design bootcamp and the ocean of new designers is quite overwhelming, that worries me for when I will need to job hunt.
Thank you so much for your support ❤️ I totally feel you when you said "the ocean of new designers", the competition is so high in junior/new design roles but it's going to worth the effort 👍
Aliena! I have to thank you for making this video. After 1 week of following your advice I‘ve gotten more than 12 call requests with recruiters and 3 going into hiring manger interviews so far. All in just 5 days. Thank you🙏
Oh my god 😭 I’m so so so so so happy to hear this! It’s still hard for me to give advice like this because I often worry about what if the tips that work for me won’t work for someone else. I’m so glad that this info has been helpful and all the best with your interviews!!
This is so precious! Thanks for this content, Aliena! I'm on my way on becoming a UX Designer developing my first case to my portfolio, and sometimes I tend to lose hope due to this huge amount of requirements and pressure that falls on the beginners. I wanted to ask you if with just one project I have real chances. If that is the case, how to manage it to work as my "showcase"?
First of all, thank you so much for your comment and support! With your question, I suggest that you can apply to things while working on maybe another case study (it can be a 1 week case study that redesigns a feature of a popular app. Check one this video for example: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-lHQ_0_lAdT0.html I understand that it could be very difficult fo motivate yourself through the process. Don’t give up! Hope this helps 😁
UX design jobs are very few and not really on-demand. So if you're just starting out, I highly recommend finding another career. Don't waste your time.
It is indeed competitive. I know a lot of people have to work on a side project to make a living while developing their skills in design and finding a role. Definitely not easy to enter for new designers.
Congrats Aliena!!! It's so uplifting to see you successfully land on your first full-time job. I subscribed to your channel several months ago when I was feeling desperate and confused about my own career path, trying to learn more to enter the field of UX design. The first video that I watched from you was your review on Google UX Certificate course, which truly helped me a lot. Now I've finished 5 of them, and I'm also getting close to landing on my first internship role as a UX designer. I was encouraged by your positive attitudes, and all the information you shared really helped me a lot throughout my own journey. I always believed that you would definitely get hired one day with your strong passion about UX design, and now I'm feeling sincerely happy for you to see it finally comes true! Wish you all the best with your work :)
Omggggg thank you so much for this comment! I’m so proud of you and all the best to your career ❤️❤️ Landing that first internship will help you so much with improving portfolio and getting a full time job. I believe you can do this! 🙌🙌🙌
Hi, so you said you got your first job through a recruitment agency, did they charge you for it? I m in the same position now but not sure if I can trust them.
no, I didn’t pay anything. Most large companies roles are actually in these recruiting agencies. You will be getting a full time contractor role, and later could convert to full time employee.
Ahh Aliena, I see you also fell victim to ATS rejection in the past comrade. I have been there too and saw a huge rise in my number of interviews as a UI/UX Designer when I stuck with the good old Google Doc.
Thank you, Aliena - this is just the pep talk I needed today! I also completed the Google UX Design Certificate and have been looking for a job for the last few weeks. It's such a slog! And can be so disheartening at times. I'm going to keep at it and, hopefully, I'll have some success soon. 🤞
I’ve been applying to UX Design roles for the past 2 months, with no luck. Watching your videos always give me hope and make me feel more motivated! Thanks for all the great tips 😊
Such a great video!! It’s so easy to get heads down in applying and not immerse yourself in designing, but that’s counterintuitive I’m learning. Thank you for the advice!! 🧡
Hi, I recently started my UX certification. I have no experience or no technical background. May I know how I can prepare myself to get a job in UX design. I am open to do any volunteer work or internships. Looking forward to hearing from you
Hey Aliena, thanks for the video, it is great! I was wondering, when you say you apply to 15 companies a day during 30 min, do you only send your resume or also a cover letter and if so, could you let me know what you wrote in it and do you personalize it for each company (but I guess not if you only take 2 min for 1 company...). Thanks in advance!
This is a great question, I usually only sent out a resume on indeed. If the company requires a cover letter, I used a cover letter template online (please look for one that suits you the most) and change the company name in the cover letter.
It's at elenacai.com. I've also made two videos on how to make a portfolio at ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-mmgxspm9JWs.html and ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-OK8ApUzfjsk.html Check them out too 🙌
I totally feel you!! I'm also a new college grad and didn't get into any internships that I applied to😭 Don't give up, I did a project on the side and used indeed to find the full time role. It wasn't easy for sure.
I just started job searching after redoing the 2 case studies in my portfolio and wow, it feels like it just isn't going to happen when I see jr job postings asking for 2 years experience); I have been told I should get a real project under my belt but not sure what problem I can solve for local businesses... as they mostly seem to want logos, social media or a webpage built
I was in your situation a year ago, totally lost. I went ahead and took a webpage project and it really helped me with adding real life project in my portfolio and gaining real life experience. It's totally ok to take some "sketchy" projects in the beginning and improve from there. You got this!
I would first apply to any role that's named after junior UX designers or "entry level", after that I'll apply for roles that says 2+ or 3+ years of experience. I won't really apply to anything beyond 3+ years of experience.
Through networking. I got all my side gigs through making friends/ social media / linkedin, etc. Really recommend a networking book called "never eat alone"
Hi Aliena! Thanks for sharing this information. I am a full time Graphic Design and I am currently studying the Google UX certification program. Hopefully for the next few years, I will transfer to be a UI/UX designer. Love your videos!!
hi i'm 24 year old ux designer from iran and i've been working in this ui and ux design for past 2 years in iran and i wanted to know does componies care where are we from and does it effect in decision that they're gonna make? do you have any idea or experience with that? thanks for the video
Congratsss!! I am also the second group like you. I will still in the job hunt but Ive been joining communities and connecting with designers and that has been helpful. As always, super great tips great video!! U deserve the best, can't wait to hear more about your experience working as UX designer! Thank you and stay safe
Thanks for the tips I appreciate it!! I already have a job but I’m looking for another one. I’ve plied to about 4 but I’ll keep trying. I definitely used canva to do my resume 😆
I am on this jorney to migrane to UX and UI design, and this video helped me a lot. I am really happy that I found it because now I have another perspective about how to apply to opportunities. You are doing a great job in yout channel, keep going! and thank you so much!
This video is really REALLY useful!!! People, take notes, she speaks truth! I wish I had a chance to watch this video many years ago! I saved this video for future and also liked it!
Hi Aliena! Thank you so much for the video! You mentioned that you had a part-time job at a start-up before you had a full-time job. My question is how did you get the part-time opportunity? I've taken some courses, done some projects, and had my portfolio ready. I'm at a stage where I think I'm fully prepared for some real-world projects. But now I'm feeling it's hard even to find part-time/contractor/internship opportunities. Did you find your part-time opportunity through Indeed?
This is a great question! I found my part-time opportunity through a lot of networking. Someone reached out to me to help with his startup idea. In your case, I suggest you to apply to any internship/full time/ contractor roles available on indeed and networking at the same time. Maybe spend at most on this and put some time for yourself too because networking and job hunting is super stressful. I'm sure you'll make it!
I saw your channel just this week and im already hooked up and learning a lot on ux/ui design Thank you for the information. I have a question so i have made my portfolio at Behance and aslo made my resume, but when i apply on indeed or linkedln should i send just my resume or compile some of my works and send along with my resume ?
Compile some of works into a nice long case study in pdf. Then upload these pdfs into a folder on google drive. After that, you can share the link of that folder as a portfolio. l hope l helped you out.
Thank you so much for the support! Regarding your question, I actually include the link of my portfolio into the resume on the top, and then only sent out my one page resume. I haven't tried out compiling portfolio to PDF, so I'm not sure how much that would help.
