How to get your IDRAC 6 Virtual Console working in Chrome

I run through the steps to get your IDRAC 6 virtual console working in google chrome.
1) Download IDRAC.jnlp from the google store.
chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/fix-idrac-jnlp-file/elhgcjjhibcbkocpdklcmlhomhcbfonp/related?hl=en-US
2) Install Java 8
java.com/en/download/
3) Add your servers IDRAC IP address to the Exception Site List
Windows start menu, Java, Configure Java
a new window with pop up
Security, Edit Site List, Add your servers IDRAC IP address
4) Edit the C:\Program Files (86)\Java\jre1.8.0_291\lib\security\java.secuity file
And Comment out line 722, 723, 724
# jdk.tls.disabledAlgorithms=SSLv3, TLSv1, TLSv1.1, RC4, DES, MD5withRSA, \
# DH keySize 1024, EC keySize 224, 3DES_EDE_CBC, anon, NULL, \
# include jdk.disabled.namedCurves
EDIT 01-25-2022
If you are still haveing trouble comment out lines 689 and 690
# jdk.jar.disabledAlgorithms=MD2, MD5, RSA keySize 1024, \
# DSA keySize 1024, include jdk.disabled.namedCurves
Also go back to the Java control panel and click on Advance (on the right side) the activate
TLS 1.0 by checking it and hitting apply

Awesome video that got me ALMOST all fixed. I had to comment out an additional line in the java.security file for jdk.jar.disabled as well as the jdk.tls.disabled that you mention. Now my Virtual Console launches and I am a happy camper. THANKS

shout out to this comment mine wasnt working. error said something about avctKVM.jar and I saw this comment so I commented out the jdk.jar.disabled lines and it worked.

Much appreciated instructions for something that is increasingly becoming a pain in the butt ! When embedded systems aren't able to keep up with browser technology or deprecated functions in the name of security vulnerabilities. Having similar issues with older firewalls and NAS devices forcing me to download older version of browsers to get around older TLS issues..

got it working with vm windows 7 , this works if you have life cycle at least 1.5.5 after that this one works too charming then no need to w7

Thank you, it' s still working in July 2023 for Idrac 6 with Java 8 update 251 using chrome. Firefox and Edge still asking to save file.

I stil have a problem it seems that Java can not dowload a file from the server, its avctVMWin32.jar. I can download it myself but when i launch the jnlp file it doesn't....

Just bought a poweredge server, still having trouble after getting Java and configuring it. I get this error in chrome (ERR_SSL_VERSION_OR_CIPHER_MISMATCH) The system that I'm trying to access the server from is windows 11, I'll try it on my Windows 10 laptop and see if I get different results. I'm looking to install Windows server on this PowerEdge to run some game servers. Any recommendations and help are very much appreciated. Thanks!

Was wondering if/when you were ever going to approach this subject. Those of us in the know know how challenging this was at first and after watching your videos it was like “… he must have figured it out yet didn’t say anything about it…” For a more secure installation you can also only comment out RC4 and MD5 protocols and leave the rest disabled. A bit safer that way. The Art of Server has a few videos on this subject.

Not for me. Chrome still cannot open iDrac7 because of the TLS. THis don't solve that problem

Forget Java. Just go to Virtual Console settings on iDRAC and set Plug-in Type to HTML5. Job done.

I tried and it give me another window and when hit keep I get another window. it just keep going in circle

I have an R210 that was giving me an unreachable (or some crap like that ) error, and I was able to fix it by going to the Java control panel, and clicking on Advance (on the right side). Once there I scrolled down and activated TLS 1.0 by checking it and hitting apply. Maybe that will work for you also IDK. Oh almost for got. You may need to edit your C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre1.8.0_321\lib\security\java.security file and uncomment lines 689 and 690 jdk.jar.disabledAlgorithms=MD2, MD5, RSA keySize < 1024, \ # DSA keySize < 1024, include jdk.disabled.namedCurves

What is the error? You don't need a Chrome extension God knows what does it do. Just install Java, add the iDRAC IP to it's exceptions, then remove RC4 from the disabled security algorithms, and it'll work

what fixed it for me was also commenting out the extra lines he talked about in the description. Read that and see if that fixes it for you.

@@chdrummer I did that as well as uncommenting a bunch of other lines recommended on some forum posts too. I've done literally everything. The solution for me was switching my server from linux back to windows server, and now I can use whatever remote desktop software I want without issue. For idrac I use a docker container but it's terrible latency which is why I needed to run it natively or use a remote software, but none work on linux natively. Linux is just objectively bad for an ordinary home lab server, lesson learned
