How about starting off with a sincere apology? When a wife stops talking (women talk a lot) it’s a sign you have repeatedly done some behavior that lead her to lose hope in getting through to you.
Often a spouse gives up on the marriage because of addiction, ADHD, poor money management etc. A professional evaluation is really helpful. Some people are going to need medication, therapy and perhaps neurofeedback to function normally. Sometimes erratic behavior is a sign of early bipolar disorder or the beginning of a psychotic disorder. If your spouse won't talk to you, he or she may have given up because you have a major issue that marriage counseling can't solve. Some people continue to have ADHD into adulthood or mild, undiagnosed autism. When in doubt, get a professional evaluation, and bring a good friend or family member who can describe your behavior. Therapy is expensive, but divorce costs even more. Its better to get both medication and therapy until your problematic behavior is under control. Then hopefully when you are stabilized, your spouse will talk and go to therapy both to help with your relationship and underlying problems.
I do agree with an evaluation for a numbetr of reasons. But I cannot see how getting a professional evaluation is going to help him TALK more. I feel that we would be more successful in getting to the root cause not the symptoms....not talking. It may "confirm" his cognitive decline and ADHD but not likely to "help" him process his emotions....
Unfortunately I am the guy who is afraid to talk. I have become gun shy over the years. The gun shy results from being corrected or dismissed, so I avoid conversations. This lead me to not only avoid talking but physical contact. This has happened over many years and I don’t know or how to reverse this fear. Lonely life. Gary

I used to have similar feelings to you but after reading The Bible n praying daily..my self love grew and grew. God is love n He created you so you are walking and breathing love. At the end - “I want our communication and marriage to be great,” etc, what should we do if our spouse does not want this? He just wants to be left alone to do what he wants and doesn’t want our marriage to be good or talk?
Can you talk about when a person talks to their family/friends a lot (text, social media, calls on speaker in with all family members all the time, texts all the time) but that same person doesn't do the same with you or not with the same frequency. To the point that siblings feel the person is a mother, or worse they act like if they were the ones dating your partner and the partner has to help them all the time no matter what it is or whenever they ask for even though the siblings are all adults. And if your partner says something like you're living together so that should be enough
Hello I am the spouse who doesn't talk. I believe I have a fear of intimacy. I fear speaking to my wife, I feel that I say something wrong and feel judged, and I feel I am being corrected or convinced in another way. I am the guy who won't talk, we didn't ever talk, we didn't date, we never in my mind we didn't have anything in common. I often feel I am wrong and being judged, so I don't talk, I avoid arguments. So to avoid arguments and being corrected I shut down don't talk don't touch give her space. It's a very lonely marriage I don't feel comfortable. I am not opened, not vulnerable and not honest. I will avoid the conversation and give as short of response as I can so don't have to explain myself.
