honestly: there is no one who goes so much into every little detail of the language as you do. I appreciate that extra mile. it does wonders for my ability to really UNDERSTAND Japanese - instead of just recognising patterns. means: even if I know the stuff, I learn something new every time!

Very comfortable style of lesson. I am particularly impressed with the color coding system you use. It is very helpful in seeing the functions of particles in a sentence and the differences in layout between English sentence construction and Japanese. It's also rather nice that you've got the Romaji version of the text on the screen, but have it de-emphasized in a faded grey so it is easy to ignore.
@wtade
@wtade 4 года назад
Agreed completely regarding the color codes. The sentence structure of Japanese is so different from English and the elements of the sentence are often reversed

Hi Misa-sensei and every one of the Japanese learning community. I have a question that may need a native speaker like you to help. Is it a matter of the order of phrases using in a sentence? For example: (1) Please go ahead of me, I am busy now. (2) I am busy now, please go ahead of me. Does Japanese use/refer (1) or (2)? In my own language (Vietnamese), we accept both. Thank you for your help! Love from Viet Nam.

I'm a little confused about what the を is doing in sentences like 二つ目の角を左に曲がると、 I thought the を was always paired up with a transitive verb (apparently not), but I don't know why it's being used instead of some other particle like に、で、へ、etc.

This comment doesn't fit well, because it is a themed video. Yet I wanted to say that I like the way your videos are structured. Like atm I'm a bit fed up on grammar videos (in a way that I prefer to rehearse them before moving on to the next ones), so the new videos I watch right now mostly are vocab videos and I like the way how you can mix different types of videos at different times without them being too hard or too easy. It always just fits somehow in a way, that you can learn something from them, no matter of how far advanced you might or might not be. If the grammar is easy there are vocabs and kanji to learn from a video, if the grammar is hard or new the vocabulary remains familiar, so there is something like a "comfort zone" in each of the videos. Which is kind of unsuspected, but welcoming, considering that most of the time it is: "Lesson 1, then lesson 2 and if you skipped 1, you won't get 2 and beyond right." So I guess I just wanted to say that you're an extraordinary teacher and a great sensei.

Question for Misa or anyone in the comments here. How do you recommend taking notes on these lessons? Do you guys write with different colored pens to match her color coding?
@gazzili

Misa has a video about that, take a look. But personally I use different colours for particles, new grammar points and vocabulary, for example. Try to highlight each class of words as Misa does in the examples, it helps a lot :)

I first saw your vids almost 3 years ago or maybe a bit longer. I would listen to them on my way to work. Now I'm back in school and preparing to go to Tokyo next spring (Hitotsubashi U) so I'm making a big push to get as close to fluent as possible, and there was something I didn't fully get in class today and there you are just like you were all those years ago. I wish you had another $50/mo slot open on Patreon so I could scoop that up so I could get the best help possible outside of my self and class studies before making a fool of myself in Japan. But I guess for now I'll just keep checking to see if one opens up and leave random likes on videos I use between now and next March. ありがとうございました。

Biggest takeaways from this are that my lessons may have been wrong (didn't learn dono kurai, but dore kurai, for how long something would take) and asking where a barber shop is would probably lead me to a hospital (and vice-versa). Also, the acoustics of that room (mostly standing waves, cause by parallel surfaces) made it a bit difficult to understand what was said at certain points, while you were speaking Japanese, but lack of familiarity is partially responsible too
