These videos are really helping me calm my nerves before my test in Ipswich on Friday, and helping me make sure I can improve my skills. Thank you so much for making these freely available! :)
I love the views and the street has been used to teach this videos, it’s very useful for beginner band calmer and relaxing to learn from it, with out busy road s and other distractions. Thanks for useful videos. It’s helping me to learn and I am new learner.
Thanks for your videos. I was very close to collide with a taxi yesterday followed by another car closely while entering on the close junction where I was going on the other side of road not left. The cars were parked on left side of that road and I was unable to see. I looked right left then right and entered the road. I don't know how I escaped the accident with taxi coming from the right. I literally didn't believe and had nightmares 😔. I'm never gonna repeat this mistake and turning right on that road. It's horrible feeling since yesterday. I already had a non faulty accident last year a month after buying my 1st car. After that, I have just gathered courage to drive again. I never thought that I would do blunders like this. Thank God my kids were not with me both times. I'm hoping to be a confident driver one day 🙏. Watching your videos since I started taking my driving lessons. They're very helpful. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. Much appreciated!
Thanks for your comment! While it’s not nice to nearly have an accident like that, it’s an experience that can be learnt from. Next time you are in a similar situation, you’ll remember what happened and that will help you look out for danger. Good luck 🚙👍🏼
I feel like I know you but never see you a great video as always I watch all of your videos and they have been a massive amount of help I have passed my test now but welcome any more videos steep hill as colloroy road in Newbury would be a good one x
These videos are great. I'm lost for words how great these videos are and how much they help me. I'm learning still and have a great instructor. Roundabouts I'm struggling with keeping within the lanes. All the videos on this channel are helpful and are explained clearly. Thanks for the videos😀🚙
I learned a lot from all your videos. I'm a learner driver from overseas at the moment with the driving instructor and I found your videos very helpful and a good training for a new learner like me to become a safe driver. It's just all the practical applications of all the knowledge I learned from your videos when I go on my driving lesson and it makes it easier for me to help me improve my driving. Thanks you very much.
I did me next lesson today and i did country lanes and roads, maybe that could be for your next video, when I pass my test I’ll give you a shoutout, anyway love your videos they really helped me :)
My problem is, I either start slowing down way too early, or too late, then I have to rush with the routine..... I can`t seem to get the right timing. Any suggestions? :)
Your instructor should be able to help you know when to start the routine, depending on the speed you are going and the type of junction you are approaching. We normally suggest about 100 metres at 30mph, and then adjust that either way to suit higher or lower speeds. With experience you'll just know when to start, but in the meantime it's better to start earlier than later!

What about fully blind junctions where there is no visibility until you enter the road? I have a few of those on my test route and always feels like if a car is going fast you won't see it until the last minute. Test is today so would love a response thanks.
We would ‘pre-select’ 1st gear on approach, stop at the Give Way line, and then continue when it’s safe. At any junction, the worse the visibility, the slower we should go, and be ready to stop if needed 👍🏼
I've had trouble with stopping over the give way lines as I can't tell how far ahead the front of the car is in relation to the rest of the road. Do you have any advice for how to know when to stop before you're past the lines?
Yes - when stopping straight at a Give Way line, look at the drivers door mirror for when the white dotted line appears underneath - this is when the front of the car is on the Give Way line!
Thank you for this- i failed my test today with just one minor, because i pulled out at a closed junction and wasn’t cautious enough- if i have to creep forward at the junction so that the front of my car is in the lane for cars coming from the right, and i want to turn right, and i block that lane, would that be allowed?
Hello when I approach traffic lights or junctions I am unsure if I have stopped on a really slight uphill road or on a flat road so when I set off sometimes I stall when it is slightly uphill, do you have any tips on how to differentiate whether it's slighty uphill or flat?
It can be tricky to spot when we’re on a very slight hill - so if there is any doubt we would treat it as a hill start, just in case. It doesn’t matter whether you prefer the handbrake or no-handbrake method (we have filmed both) as either way the car won’t stall or roll back. 👍🏼
Thanks sometimes when I know for sure I am going uphill at a junction or at traffic lights which have turned red can I do this method where I'd slow down and change to first gear then come off the brake set gas and find bite and either hold still and be ready to go or edge foward slowly and do you have a link for that video I can't find it, thank you
It sounds like you are doing the right thing. Here are a couple of videos that might help: Easy Hill Starts (without handbrake): ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-O6qXieAAOo0.html Clutch control on steep hills: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-RiS4wbi5AC0.html Both techniques are useful, so you have a choice depending on the situation.
When are you meant to go if somebody flashes you during your driving test? Do I have to wait for them to fully stop or slow down obviously as I know flashing doesn't qualify in your test!
We must always make our own mind up on whether we should go or not. Never trust the other drivers judgement, as they might have missed danger elsewhere.
It’s fine to brake the car without pressing the clutch - as long as you don’t need to change gear or are stopping. Have you seen this video? ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-UT9c4QwZd7c.html
We prefer to use engine braking to ‘control our speed’ such as when driving down a hill. When we need to actually slow the car down we use the brakes, then change gear.
How many car lengths from the give way line should we be in 2nd gear by? I need about 3 car lengths to change down to 2nd gear, and I want to be travelling in 2nd gear for about 2 car lengths before I reach the line, to give me time to decide whether I can keep going or not. I definitely wouldn't be able to change down gear as well as decide to keep going all in the space of one car length from the line.
@5:00 - this shows turning at a closed junction. My question was going to be how to handle the shift to 2nd gear while you're also turning. In this video the driver simply shifts to 2nd in the middle of the turn. Isn't changing gear while turning a no-no? When I passed my test, the examiner told me I'd technically scored a major fault for changing gear while turning (into the test centre to end the test, no less!) but he'd let me away with it
There are no rules about when we should change gear, except that it shouldn't affect our control over the car. We would suggest a new driver finishes their turn before changing gear, but with experience you will find that there are times when it is possible to change gear safely.
@@AdvanceDrivingSchool Thanks! Either my examiner was wrong, or I misremember what he said (it was 20 years ago, so probably :) ). He likely did judge that my gear change at that time was distracting my attention from the junction turn. Your channel is excellent by the way, thank you!
That takes a little experience to judge, and depends on which way you are turning and how far away and fast the traffic is going. To start with, imagine you are crossing the road on foot - if there is time to walk across, it’s probably safe to drive out as well. 👍🏼
@@AdvanceDrivingSchool I have only gotten 2 lessons and I am a new driver passed my theory focusing on practical now, I would like everything to be mentioned if possible for example mock tests in automatic and more
We have already filmed a couple of mock tests in our automatic cars! Actually, if you think about it most of our videos about indicating, junctions etc are still relevant for any type of car - so even if it was filmed with a manual car just ignore the clutch and gearbox!
All traffic on the roundabout has priority over anyone joining, so make sure it is safe before crossing your Give Way line. This video might help: Entering Busy Roundabouts: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-vGmvyLcBtm4.html
It all depends on the junction: 2nd gear is perfect for open junctions where there is good visibility, but it is too fast for use at a closed junction. 1st gear is great for closed junctions, as it drives slowly enough to give us time to look both ways for oncoming traffic.
When the clutch pedal is fully up the car's clutch will be fully engaged, and it will be disengaged when the pedal is pushed down. So when we are just driving along normally, and our left foot is not pushing the clutch pedal - the clutch is engaged and transmitting drive to the wheels. 👍🏼
