Ohmigod...l never thought of going backwards...lv been walking sideways fown the stairs for a long time now due to osteoarthritis and have real trouble walking up them too my muscles are so weak now...l don't want to be like this so lm going to put all you've suggested into practice starting from now...l have to be honest and admit l hate exercise but if this is going to help me and my body then lv got everything to gain...thankyou for taking the trouble to explain and helping people..
I've been exercising for decades and realized long ago that to be consistent it needs to become part of your actual lifestyle and not a side event. For me it must be early morning before doing ANYTHING else..no coffee, teeth brushing, shower, walking the dog, etc before my workout. If I fall off the exercise wagon my body doesn't feel right and I get right back at it because it's part of my lifestyle. Over the decades I realized that afternoon and evening exercise won't consistently work for me. I need to do it 1st thing in the morning so done and out of my head. I also can't do public gyms so trainers at my former employer helped me as consults to build a comprehesive home gym over time. Mid 60's and I'm still 112 lbs with athletic slim build same as HS 🤗
Love this channel! I've been exercising almost every day since age 12 and adjusting my focus throughout the decades with mix of aerobic/weight training/stretch. Teens were pom pom team & random whatever active HS stuff, 20's mostly aerobics, 30's mostly muscle weight training & functional aerobics, 40's mostly aerobics & added weight stretches, 50's mostly added weight aerobics, 60's whatever the heck I feel like doing. I no longer have an employer fitness specialist to consult so this channel is gold for me 🥰
Putting your legs up against a wall for 20 minutes a day helps all sorts of ailments, water retention, arthritis and just about everyone can do it. If you can't get on the floor do it on your bed using your headboard.
How do you do this on home stairs? I only wear size 8 shoes and the steps are too small to plant my heel going upstairs. Are the steps you are using in an office or medical location?
Ok l tried walking up the stairs backward but it wasn't working for me because l could not lift my foot high enough to put my heel down...l could just about get my toes on the step and felt very unbalanced so l had to abandon that excercise...
I just went outside on my porch steps to practice what you said. It felt great. I had surgery on my knee in 2021. I will continue to use your instructions. Thanks so much.
Hell Tyler! Your exercises really make me doing exercises! I don’t like going to the gym so this home training is just great! Thanks very much, you are a joy to look at!!👍
This is great if the depth of the step provides you with enough space to put your entire foot flat but not all stairs do that as a matter of fact most don't.
Hii I am a physical therapy student, so basically in all exercise ,you are trying not to give eccentric load to quadriceps since km pfps or OA both has poor quadriceps strength!!! Right? And, instead you are try to give solution in a way to component movements hamstring muscles? Right?
I had hip replacement in March 2023 and this exercise is part of my therapy. Going downstairs isn't a problem for me but going up I'm still working on. This exercise is not just for knee pain ppl. I'll share this video to a friend who has knee pain and sounds like a dying animal when she gets up from a sitting position or going upstairs 😁👍🏾.
Anyone who has undegone patella surgery in which patella undersurface is abnormal. Since two years struggling hard to go especially downstairs with railing and wall support. Going to the gym also. How to manage?
I am a senior women who can't climb up and down the stairs. I have to hold on to the railing and force myself self up with right foot always. So I climb up with only right foot. Help!!
I had a bad fall knee cap felt as if lower knee bone came up through the top of my knee one year ago and I am still in pain Dr say's it's arthritis won't even consider having ultrasound as x-ray showed nothing I HAD no problems before the fall they use my age against me not listening to fact i played tennis And badminton before also swimming 3 time's a week please help me.
Thank you so very much for this video. It’s transformed my life. I’m 73 and, after living for 40y in a single storey home, recently moved 300+ miles away to a new 2 storey home to be close to kids/grandkids. Of course I messed my knee up. Exercises from my Physio helped by strengthening knee/hip but I realised that I was going up the stairs with the weight on the ball of my foot. So your way of going up stairs by moving weight towards the heel has taken away pain and knee joint ’cracking’. It’s amazingly effective. Thanks again. Wonderful. 👍
I am sorry, I did not understand the getting down the stairs well, you mean to say, while getting down, with the back support, the heel or the toe to be placed first, it's bit confusing, could some explain if they understood please 🙏
I am experiencing very bad waist pain immediately after getting up in the morning. After few hours I can very easily do forwward bending. What can I do?
I went hiking up Machu Picchu mountain and while going up I suddenly started to feel a very sharp pain in my left knee. I have never had knee pain before, but walking up this mountain for over an hour seemed to have put a lot of stress on my knee. When I reached the top my knee was in complete agony and walking around Machu Picchu was an painful experience rather than an enjoyable one because I had to sit every 10 mins. After watching this video, I remember I was walking up just like how I shouldn't go up. Using my knees to do all the climbing.
My feet are longer than the step is long. I go sideways up n down. If I’m in a hurry… the heal just hangs over step. I mostly us the elevator except when it breaks down every few months!
I actually go down the stairs sideways. I have osteoarthritis in my knees. I'm not supposed to do squats or lunges. However I can do a shallow Squat and maybe add weights and I can do a side lunge
I see in your next video you're doing lunges. I have arthritis in my knees so I'm not supposed to do lunges. Do you suppose I could do deadlifts instead?
