I came here looking for advice on how to go up stairs after tearing my ACL and MCL knee ligaments. I am in excellent shape but struggling quite a bit. After reading others comments about their struggles it doesn't feel like I am the only one anymore. It's tough going from being 100% and skiing cliffs to crawling up a staircase while dragging my crutches. A true lesson in humility. Thank you for the video I really appreciate the help!!!

I just shattered my right ankle a week ago and im having surgery this week. it just so happens that i live on the fourth floor of a five story walk-up in nyc.... let me tell you right now how frickin exhausting and sweaty it is to go up AND down those stairs in the summer with no AC in the building :( takes me like 9 minutes now (i am horribly out of shape) but hopefully i'll get better at it over the next couple months

Don’t feel bad I’m sorta in the same boat, I’m horribly in shape and I live on the top floor of my building, I can go up the stairs but it’s going down that I have a problem with plus I don’t have any crutches, it take me 20 minutes or more to go down 3 small flights of stairs

This is good. After breaking my hip and having surgery (2 weeks ago!), and having pins put in, I've been putting off going up my stairs and have watched this more than once, trying to buck up my nerve. So far, my hubby has carried me downstairs to our basement bathroom to shower, but I WILL gather the courage to attempt our stairs going upstairs, after watching this a few more times, I'm sure, haha. Practices in the hospital with the little set like yours, it was a breeze at the time, but my courage was bolstered by painkillers, I think, LOL. I've got 6 more weeks to go before I can weight bear, so I'll have time to try. Thank you for posting this.

I live in a group home. Out of nowhere’s my foot keeps locking. I refuse to go without walking, especially when I still have a leg that isn’t injured, or in pain. I will go without walking if it’s truly needed. I knew there were crutches in the basement, so I had explained to the staff the situation, and asked if I could use the crutches in the meantime. My foot locks, I can’t even move my foot up, or down. And let me tell you, when it locks up, it hurts like a son of a biscuit. Luckily the staff said yes, and got the crutches for me. I sleep downstairs, but refuse to use the bathroom downstairs, so I use the one upstairs. Went to look up vids, but the 1st one isn’t useful. I needed one where a person had to have their leg up. The 1st one the person put weight on both feet, but I can’t put weight on both feet if one foot hurts too much. I don’t know why all of a sudden my foot is now doing this. I don’t do sports. I’m not really an active person, other than walking around. I hadn’t been running, so that isn’t the cause. I will have this checked out by the doctors, for now I am completely clueless. This video was what I needed. This video was helpful, thank you!!

@YeshuaAgapao
@YeshuaAgapao 4 года назад
@@bennettschwarting157 I never fully followed the non-weight bearing order. I put as little weight as I could but couldn't get around very well with zero weight bearing. I am around 300lbs and have leg strength but not good upper body strength (bicycle, bowflex max trainer, free & scuba diving, one in a blue moon soccer). I went full weight bearing right after the first follow-up appointment as the doctor said I could. Had no difficulty with full weight bearing. I had the hip strength to keep the knee straight even with my weight and the brace's tendency to fall down (if it falls down too much it provides very little support, with my huge calves, dr advice of 4th strap super-tight was not effective). The doctor was old school and did no ROM until 6 weeks. I started doing ROM on my own at 4 weeks. Could only bend it 15 degrees at 4 weeks. Got to 35 degrees when starting physical therapy at about 7th week. I am well past 120 now. Can do a full-weight kneel with pain (160 degrees or so?). Doing extreme knee bends keeps the tendon from hurting from activity (stretch tendon and lower-quads).

Thank you for taking the time to genuinely help people so compassionately. I live in the UK and the word care doesn't exist in the NHS that we all pay extortionate taxes for yet they call it 'free'. After I fell and had an ankle injury I had to walk through the long corridors passed from one department to another. Complete apathy rudeness and carelessness from each and every staff that work there. Sent home without braces crutches or any support. Hours wasted. Worse than a third world country.
@Sarah-jy9uj
@Sarah-jy9uj Год назад
Do you realise how insulting this is to all workers in the NHS (of which I am one)? To imply that staff don’t care when they have literally chosen to be in caring professions, and are drastically underpaid and overworked by a government who expects miracles. To say this, particularly after the last few years is shameful. I’m sorry your experience was negative but please stop and think about the workload, pressure, stress aswell as having to deal with this sort of criticism on top of it all that NHS workers are dealing with. That takes its tole.

In this demo they use the crutches for only a couple of minutes but for longer it takes its toll on the joints. Furthermore, it is ridiculous how doctors expect older people to use crutches, which is another accident waiting to happen and will cause injury to other body parts given the spinal misalignment and excess weight placed on other parts. I honestly do not think the medical profession empathizes or rationally thinks things through.

great to know but can you do this on a regular set of stairs? I have surgery on my right foot December 9th and will be in a hard cast for the 1st 2 weeks non weight bearing, then a walking boot for anywhere from 3-6 more weeks, I live up on 3rd floor no elevator, which means FOUR flights of stairs, 1 to get into the building and 3 to get up to my apt...also freaking out about the knee scooter, last time I used one of those the upper thigh felt like the dr beat the crap outta me...any helpful tips would be appreciated thanks
