I wish cgc hired you as a grader, you're so consistent. Can't say the same about them at the moment. Thanks for the detailed vid!

They aren't consistent because you are paying for someone's opinion of what condition your comic is in. Everyone has a different opinion. It's all a sham.

I've pressed many foil books without any issues. I use 80lb cardstock for the cover interiors and I use a magazine board in the center of the comic to hold up the staples. I set my press at 160 degrees (pressing heat may differ depending on the press) and ALWAYS use silicone releases paper on any foil surface! You can and likely will press the texture of the teflon sheet into the foil in most cases. I back the preasure of the press off a bit and clamp it for 5min with heat then turn the press off. leave the book clamped inside until the press is cold to the touch or longer for better results. I've pressed about 50 foil cover books including Venom lethal protector #1 Gold foil and all the books came out perfectly. This is just the method I prefer to use and I get great results. I'm not saying it's the only way.

Excellent! Great info with clear examples to show the difference between 9.8 and 9.6. Great camera control so the viewer can see the color breaking, finger bends, etc. Would love to see you do a similar video for silver/bronze books. Thanks, this video made me a subscriber!

I got my first submission ever back in August. I sent 18 books unpressed and no pre-screen. I got back one 9.4, eight 9.6’s, and nine 9.8’s. I was pretty please with the results for my first submission ever with no press.

I’ve had great success with Boom books on pre screen. Sometimes it helps to just keep submitting a book that you can tell has no visible defects. I had a Nyx 3 denied 3 times before they finally admitted it was a 9.8. It looked perfect even under a microscope and they kept denying it. Also, try submitting at different times of the month, rumor has it they have a quota on how many 9.8’s they can have. Sounds like conspiracy type stuff but I’ve had absolute perfect books denied and definite 9.4 to 9.6’s approved on 9.8 pre screens. Great video bro!

This is one of my favorite videos that you have created. Terrific detail and I am really appreciative of the cause and effect i.e. lines from the poly bags and Spine white seam breaks lines from packaging. Thanks for the finger bend example! Bry - your the man and always wishing you success. Thanks a lot for the informative content. btw I am surprised at the amount of cover rippling CGC will allow as a 9.8... I always press that out. Take a lot of time though.

Thank you for the advice. We live and we learn, sometimes painfully 😂. Just be realistic about what you're inspecting and what you send out to get pressed and cleaned. Pressing and cleaning aren't a fix it all but it does give the book a bump up but remember nothing is guaranteed. Great video Bry 👍.

Just got a batch of books back from CGC that had been sitting at CCS waiting to be pressed for 6 months. My advice, use a reputable presser and avoid CCS. I have a book that grader notes listed having "light finger bends" which I know for absolute certain did not have them when I sent it in, not to mention pressing should have flattened those out. A few books were 9.6 with no grader notes so I have no idea why (visually they look excellent). A book I was sure would get 9.6 got a 9.8. And the book that was the gem of the entire submission, the one I was absolutely sure would be 9.8 (didn't even need pressing but since I submitted with the others it went to CCS as well) got a 9.6, again with no grader notes. Most ironically, my copy of Rust #1 deluxe got graded a 9.6 and the grader notes listed "light rust on staple"...

I never, ever, ever buy any books--unless it's a steal of a deal or it's a bulk lot--without looking at the backs. And when I list on eBay and check comparables those listings not showing the back aren't even factored in to the comp. I heard the funniest thing one night on Whatnot. This guy was selling a bunch of old books in bags and every time he pulled one off the stack it made a sucking, peeling sound and he said, "Listen to that. You hear that? That's a near mint book." He sold a crap ton of stuff but I'm curious about buyer response. Another helpful video and much appreciated. I'm not able to finish the video right now, so maybe you've addressed it, but what are your thoughts about the CGC Grading Guide CGC released at NYCC? I think it's about time and that it's a pretty good opportunity to get at least a little clarity and transparency about how they grade.
