Excellent demonstration and explanation of the technical requirements in a straightforward manner!👍 I've been around weapons for over six decades. As a boy of 8, I learned to shoot a Colt single action Army in 45 Colt. Talk about slipping!😮 As I grew, my pinky finger was on the bottom of the grip, thus the two remaining fingers were all that were used in gripping the pistol. The pinky gripped nothing. I do nothing but place the pinky finger on the grip (if it's allowed to) but do not use it to exert and pressure. I shoot revolvers mostly, and the principles you demonstrated are the same with a revolver. Fundamental principles are universal. Now in my 70s, I've lost 40% or more of the sensitivity in the three lower fingers in my right hand. However, even when I feel less contact with those fingers, I am still confident that my skills are still present. Fortunately, my index finger is very functional, and I'm able to isolate it from the others. Again, Excellent Presentation!

I finally hit the “Subscribe” with bell notifications. At the 6:55 mark: way to hold steady on the shots! I looked at the background trees and you held steady as could be. You giving out gold sir. Golden nuggets! Some things I knew. Some things I sort-of knew but not really as to “why”. Your explanations cut through-the-fat. Saw this from a few videos and is the reason in went ahead and subscribed. I look forward to future videos and look forward to tomorrow (Sunday) as a go back to see previous videos! 🔫 👍🇺🇸💪

I tried this at the range on a Sig P229 9mm today. I’ve been down and left lately. This videos helped. I played with different amounts of pressures. Real tight to very loose and everything in in between. I can’t determine what it best but this gives me a good focal point. Thanks.

New sub, great info thank you!!! I am guilty of liking to have that extended magazine for the pinky to rest on but as you explained and showed the grip strength is really with the front to rear pressure using the middle and ring fingers to mange the recoil and to stay on target. I watch a lot of gun videos. (training, reviews etc.) and I can't count how many times I have seen people having to re-adjust their grip after each shot, even when they are firing lighter loads. Thank you again!!!!

I like your videos. The format, the information you provide presented in a very calm and logical manner. I have to say though that I disagree with your pinky finger philosophy. The farther out from the dynamic center of rotation that you can apply pressure, the better you can control recoil. In terms of leverage and contribution to keeping the gun from rotating, the pinky provides more than the next two fingers above. The middle finger is much closer to the center of rotation and as such has very little leverage to stop the gun from rotating. No denying you are a pretty good shooter, but your pinky sticking out when you are strong arm shooting seems to be an outgrowth of your individual style that works for you.

@g.forster6233

Definitely agree! I was always taught to have a 60/40 pressure with my grip: 60 with my dominant and 40 with supporting hand. Albeit, that's somewhat difficult to exactly define or interpret for everyone, but it basically means one hand is more firm than the other and to not "death grip" either hand. And to your point, the pinky is the lowest point of the rotation on the fulcrum (the thumb to pointer webbing), and thus provides the most resistance to recoil.

Thanks for taking the time to comment. Just apply what works for you and discard what doesn't cause we're all slightly different. Thanks for dropping a like as well. God bless!

Excellent video, Quick question, with your support hand when you are applying the rear pressure do you get your palm behind the grip panel? I’m struggling with that part where I can’t get behind the panel and my palm slips out of place

Thank you brother I been worrying why I been low left
@ron8566
@ron8566 6 месяцев назад
Low and left indicates a flinch in anticipation of recoil for a right handed shooter
@alstontrainings
@alstontrainings 5 месяцев назад
You're anticipating the recoil and probably pushing the gun down just before it goes off. You're right-handed, so most likely, using your dominant hand the most during the push. You may also be moving the trigger to the side, slightly, instead of straight back. I discuss trigger press in another video 👍🏾
