HOW TO GRIP YOUR BOARD 

I replaced my deck at my local skate shop recently and I always gripped my own boards, but last time I let them do it. So come this time, I completely forgot what I was doing and I did an awful job. The shop owner came up and he was like "you're scaring me with this grip job," proceeded to peel it off and put a fresh sheet on for free. That shit was embarrassing.

I gripped my first board ever yesterday and didn't have any air bubbles. probably because I watched 1000 tutorials

A while ago the guy at the skateshop offered to grip my board (its the second deck i have bought) and i was like ''fuck not im griping this shit on my own'' and now i fucked up my griptape hahaha

Holy, just seeing you hold that razor gives me anxiety. I remember when I was using my old school safety razor, once I was done I tried to unscrew it with my wet, slippery hands. My index finger slid right in the razor and cut open a gash on my finger. Went straight to rinsing and pouring alcohols. My mom was so scared lol and I told her to calm down and that it wasn’t serious, even though my finger was halfway open. I put pressure on my finger to reduce finger and put a bandaid on it. Wow, what a scary experience. The razor is so sharp you don’t even feel it cut you.

Out of all the hundreds of vids on this simple thing, I would have to say this method makes the most sense. Always DIY, it's how you learn.

One time I bought a board from a skate shop and they put the trucks on backwards

You HAVE to sand down the edges of the board after you cut or else the griptape will chip off. Back in the day I went and bought a new board from a skate shop and they gripped it for me and they didn't sand it down and the griptape came off in big chunks and it was just a disaster.

I use to have a butter bench butt, it melted.

Biggest advice I can give for hardware is to hold the screw/bolt head, and use a socket wrench to turn the nuts. This prevents the infuriating "twisted grip tape" and significantly reduces the chance of stripping the head

Thanks dude I've been skating for 15 years and finally gripped my own board tonight following this video. Only thing I need to work on is cutting it cleaner with the razor, but sanding it down and scraping it with a razor worked!

If you're worried about shoes just start thrifting online, I specifically use Poshmark to get skate shoes people just want to give away. The shoes on there are always in good condition, considering if the people selling them are your size. Recently I got myself a pair of Emerica Hermans for $10 and they were basically brand new.

The board is cut so perfectly o.o

If you poke the holes with the bolts from the top side down it looks way cleaner and you don't have to use a razor to cut out all the bits that stick up from poking it from the bottom side up. Just poke the bolts in topside down and bolt the trucks on, looks super clean, less steps, less risk of cutting yourself.

At the skate shop the dude filed off the edges. Your method seems very practical, using what you already have

I just uploaded my first grip tape job and I thought it was pretty buttery. No air pockets or anything. I used Mobgrip so maybe they are just really dope But I didn’t start from the middle. I just pressed and rolled! Dope tutorial!!

Andy should bring back the old graphics and simply change the name to revive on it.... the new graphics aren't near as cool

Spencer nuzzi did the grip tape sanding thing in his board setup video on the ride channel :) Also, I always push my bolts through the grip for good luck.

This guy is so boss he can do more tricks while gripping his board than i can skating

the skate shack video i just watched does the sand the edges with a scrap part as well.

It was just the handle of the socket wrench he used to take off the trucks and the line was perfect cause all you have to do is rub it along the edge of the board

Lol yeah I just gripped my first deck. Definitely didn't come out that clean haha good thing im not picky. I have MOB tape so it is perforated, had no air bubbles but I didn't cut that straight. I usually just had the skate shop do it back in the day. Finally going to start skating again.

I do that and I don't let anyone grip my board just the first time and I learned after that and have done it ever since

I use to ride jessup but I switched to mob, and i like 8" or 8.25" decks

@ Aaron 6min53 that is how you supposed to tighten annything that has more then 2 holes it does make it go flatter/straighter learnd it at car mecanic school:)

Hey Aaron I enjoy watching your videos. I think its awesome that you do your skate support. I also enjoy watching Andrew Schrocks. I actually found your channel from watching revenge. I have a question for you and hope you can provide some insight. What are the pros and cons of using risers? I remember starting out when I was about 11 yrs old and always using them for a breif period of time. But ive noticed nobody uses them. What I was lead to believe was that they were to help relive stress cracks near your hardware. Do they offer anything other benefits? And why do people not use them anymore? Thanks for your time in advance!

I swear Aaron NEVER changes his trucks or wheels. I've seen him swap decks and bearings so much but it's always the same trucks and wheels.

I like to just keep filling with the rasp until it's completely through the grip tape. It takes care of the filing, cutting, and sanding steps all with one tool.

Came here since board shop didn't cut out the circle with the razer and they said it's fine. Got all excited seeing you cutting out but first side you cut out too much in one hole and can see ur body shaking out of mini shock lol

I just attempted gripping a board for the first time and I didn’t to too bad. The cutting job wasn’t the best because I had to use a regular pocket knife. Over all isn’t too bad

what I do is I grip the board then use a bottle made out of glass to file the grip until it rips.
