As a 70-year old grandfather I have to tell you that you did a good thing making this video and sharing your method. You have a good voice, and I could imagine my young grandchildren gathered around you listening to your quiet voice. Very well done. Thank you.
Hey! This really works! I've tried it with apple seeds in an upside down peanut butter jar and out of the 12 seeds I put in, 9 of them germinated! I've since planted them in small pots and they're now approx. 4 inches tall, can't wait to plant them outside (-24 Celsius where I live right now...) in the spring. I want to grow a lot more and this will be my contribution to the 20 Million Trees movement.
@AsorVoid but then I brought them outside and they all died instantly. Don't know why, gave them 1/2 sun, 1\2 shade, lots of water (but not too much) and it looked like they just fried...
@AsorVoid Forgot to mention that I did put them in soil right away, kept them in soil pretty much all winter and under a plant lamp, so I'm guessing the roots must have had a good chance of setting in the soil, then I put the trees, in their small (I'm guessing) biodegradable cardboard pots in the soil, it rained a bit then sun then...prrrtt! leaves turned brown & death....
My seeds took about a year to sprout. I had them in the freezer for a while and forgot about them then pulled out a small ziplock of ice and napkins with the seeds frozen inside lol then I let them thaw for a day and replaced the ziplock and napkins now they are growing pretty well healthy and adorable lol the roots are small about a centimeter long but I keep them in the fridge for now since I don't have a place to plant them yet
Now, this video is the only one that made horse sense that I've watched so far. I plan on doing this very soon, Lord willing along wit some orange, tangerine and peach trees so they'll b ready for the ground next spring. I'm very excited to. This is the first year I have grown anything ever. I planted tomatoes n orange pepper and they did so gud, I'm hooked on gardening. I did however plant a cpl tomatoes in planters n they didn't do as well as the one in the ground. Learned my lesson on that, lol. Tyfs God bless you
Yup I like that old school method. Not sure why she buried them. On top of moist wool would have been fine imo. This is only really beneficial if you want to ensure you have a plant in each pot. I'd recommend planting deeper than this demo also around 1 inch ideally.
So nice to hear that you are grandson and your grandchildren have their own Apple tree. Really you will have sweet fruit . You have sowen a good habit of taking care of the nature in this New generation.
Your method is a great way to teach children how a seed grows and they can see the process. I'm going to use this for my grandkids next time they are here. Thank you for sharing this exciting way to grow new trees.
I just had to comment again. Although you are a lot younger, you sound just like my mom when she would talk about her plants , her babies. Thanks for the memories. :)
Well thanks, for all the years I have gardened done hydroponics, box gardened (keeps rabbits out) never occurred or seen using a jar like a mini green house to start seeds. I've gardened for more than 40 years, picked up a neat idea thanks to your video, thank you
Thank you very very very much for doing this and teaching how to do this I will share and teach, because I save seeds and always give them back to the earth. It pains me to disregard any seeds!! Thank you again! Everyone do this with your families so we can replenish the Earth!!!!
I like to hear you mumble to the seeds. You are like a modern day Mother Nature.. Can't wait to try this technique. Love Dragon Fruit. Sooooo expensive here in South Texas. Now I can try and grow my own. Thank you.
I usually peel the thick skin off of them, leaving the thinner skin underneath. Then put them in a glass of water for about 10 hours. Then germinate in paper towel. 100%success rate. Subscribed !
I don't think that this is a waste of time, it's a great activity to do with kids. Making a connection to plant science and nature that is real and they will remember and probably try in the future.
A fun school project. Especially with Covid. Orange trees work well as indoor plants and cost nothing, which is a great teaching opportunity about thrifty spending to children
I'm growing 2 apple trees from seeds all i did was plant the seeds in soil just for fun and they started growing they are very healthy and very easy to grow
Mae Huston it's very kind of you to care about plants and how to make it grows thank you for these amazing steps of growing trees ....i will do it and i hope it will make a result.....go for your work and enjoy us.....thank you again
This is almost exactly how I did it! Jar's a nice touch, though! LOVE that! Difference being I just put the seeds (already starting to show nubs right out of the apple) with the paper towel "sleeping bag" on top of compost soil in a solo drinking cup. Wish I'd done like you did & recorded the type, because I've long forgotten. Think it was a Fuji, or thereabouts. Mystery apple trees till they bear fruit in a couple years, I guess...
When you grow from seeds they are always mystery plants. You never get the same type as from the apple the seeds came from since you don't know which other apple tree the flower got pollen from.
Thank you. This is extremely useful! I especially liked how you use simple items that are readily available to germinate your seeds. Can you show us how big the apple trees look a few months later? I mean - are they ok for a balcony?
I have my apple tree on the balcony. It'll fit there for a few years before becoming too big, I think. My apple is about 9-10 months now, and it's about 25-30 cm tall. :) Just be sure to check if it needs water every day. They are sensitive to underwatering. But make sure the dirt is loose and airy. Put perlite or pieces of bark or something in it to make water run off faster. Sunny days it needs water every day.
A powerful video, I simply given this onto a colleague who was doing a bit of analysis on this. And he in actual fact bought me breakfast because I discovered it for him.. smile. So let me reword that: Thnx for the treat! But yeah Thnkx for spending the time to discuss this, I feel strongly about it and love reading extra on this topic. If doable, as you develop into expertise, would you mind updating your youtube channel with extra particulars? It is highly useful for me. Huge thumb up for this youtube channel submit!
The easy and best way of growing plum from seeds. Not much people discussed about this trick in the internet... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-hFqZss3agNA.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-LLBFKN8QZw8.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-TGqRGeEBVLg.html
Thumbnail looked to me like a bowl of cereals - probably because im hungry :D Great video tho - i always wanted to grow a apple tree on my own! :) definitly will try it now!
You have such a great green thumb like my mom! It takes much patience and tender loving care, and is measured by the harvest. You said you've given much away--think of all those families and children you've impacted:) I'd love to see a pull from what a typical harvest looks like for you....
I really want to thank you for this video, cause i learn a lot about how to grow up some trees other than apple tree. And i want to thank you also for you professionalism.
thank you all for watching and your comments. all my babies are doing very good... only problem now is I have too many lol. I've planted 5 apple trees 6 tangerine trees 4 pear 2 fig 2 lemon 2 pink grapefruit 2 florida orange and plum...I have many more... gave lots away as Christmas gifts... I've got my little veggie and pepper garden going all from seeds that I grew last year... I love being able to go pick fresh veggies and fruit ... well thank you all again...I'll do a video while walking the yard to show how they all are doing
i never thought that you could grow seeds by germinating them. what I thought was it depends on the climate like in a tropical country (Philippines) as a hindrance for fruit trees from growing them. Thank you uploading your good work.
I got so excited that tears litterilly started to flow out of my eyes as i was watching this it was a lot like watching a baby being made I've never been so moved by something that I'm watching on RU-vid wow thank you so much for your time to make this video you are much appreciated and I am looking forward to new videos many blessings to you and your family in Jesus name amen sister's and brothers
That's awesome... I'm happy to hear that I'm not the only one who feels that way about life... Plants live too... Thank you for your comment... Some of the trees are about 5 to 6 ' tall now
@@maehutson8172 thank you for your response I'm so happy to hear how big they are I can't wait to see what happens to my plants because of you I grew a bunch of seeds and it worked unfortunately when I planted them on the ground there were a lot of rodents that came and ate most of them it devastated me but I'm waiting for a video on how to keep bugs and rodents away thank you again for your time and consideration to leave me a message many many blessings to you in Jesus mighty name amen
Another little piece of information. You can also graft climbing roses to your apple tree. Really looks great and will help keep the children from climbing your tree and breaking branches.
It's very good madam I am watching from South Korea now a days when I will go back to my country Nepal I will use your best formula and apple seeds germination
Elishia Moore, I have some that I keep on the porch in pots and bring them inside during winter. some stay in my Green house. some are planted. I cover them during winter if it gets too cold. I live in Alabama so we don't have very cold winters. I'll do an update video of them all soon. (Regular potting soil)
Very nice Video -- I am from India and have a Tropical Fruit Nursery -- While I was in Canada during winter I kept the seeds of apples in Paper towels , covered in a Plastic bag and Kept it in Snow outside -- while returning to India I brought the seeds along -- when I opened my to see the seeds they had germinated -- due to my negligence I managed to keep 2 plants got encouragement from your Video and will try again I thought the seeds require freezing temperatures for 2 months and then they germinate -- I have all tropical fruit trees and an Apple is something new over here -- Thank you so much
I put my fruit seeds between 2 sheets of wet paper towel, transfer it in a zip lock bag and put it in a dark place for 1 week. After 1 week I get all the seeds sprouts and plant them in individual small pots with clean soil. I have great apple trees in my back yard.
joe18370, it's very rewarding growing food of all sorts. I have 6 grand children that each have started their own apple tree that they will plan on their (mom n dad ) land when they get it... they are so excited. . I have many tangerine trees that I plan to grow for a year then go plant them in areas I know the homeless go so that they can always have fresh fruit every year
The apples that you buy at the grocery store are hybrid apples. I was told that a seed from a hybrid apple will grow a plant but the plant will not grow fruit.
I germinated apple seeds in a ziplock bag wet paper towel in the refrigerator and I have them growing in water now they are in the bathroom growing slowly new leaves my mom had a green thumb I have a wet thumb no luck with Durain seeds
i loved this video so much because i have do this method and i succed to have little plant of appel tree ; good job and i wich u happiness and good continuation :)
I grew two apples from seeds last winter, but one died in the summer as I watered it too little. But the other is doing well. I have a bunch of more apple seeds, hopefully growing atm. Some are in the fridge, and some on the windowsill. I'll see which ones grow first (if at all). :)
I have raised many of these trees. One of the easiest ro grow. Put them in a damp paper towel and put them in a ziploc bag.put them in the frig for 1 or two months to get a good root start. When you get the roots about. 1/4 inch or more the longer the better. Put the root and remaining seed on soil and you will see a tree start in little time.
I really like what you do kinda jealous. I put mine straight in the ground keep the date, prey. You are more blessed see the babies first oh ! Thank you keep smiling lol
It is absolutely fabulous when they work. I am over in UK, cold as mugs and trying to do it all indoor, may I inquire what soil mix you use if anything specific? I notice in your close up the soil doesn't seem to be anything coming out of fertiliser bags. Many thanks. Absolutely cracking stuff you have there.
I want to plant also fruits and vegetables not only for consumption but also to replenish environment due to air pollution. Only problem is that until now I don't have my own soil to raise any plants. Maybe after decades of working and saving money I may be able to have my own lot property. Good Day! thanks for great tutorial.
We all should start fruit trees and plant then in wild too. To many folks cut down fruit barring trees - mostly because they don't like cleaning up fallen fruit and it attracts bees - use the fruit is my solution to the bee problem!? - cutting down something that gives you free food is just not wisdom.
@Charles Martel - GDL - You have that right - Also if it were not for all these huge conglomerate markets - the Mom and Pop store would still thrive, and our farmers markets as well - then we would have: equal trade, equal opportunity, and a right to life as God intended it.
Alwaes Surius .. Sorry to be realistic here but, planting fruit trees of any kind that will not be taken care of (sprayed for moths, Apple maggot, etc.) is NOT a grand idea. Have you ever noticed, when crossing state lines (in the USA) there are signs saying, Do not bring apples (fruit) across state line? Did you ever wonder why not? Because orchidists work hard to keep their trees AND their fruit healthy so as to bring a healthy fruit to matkst. If yr trees aren't sprayed insects & disease spread to commercial crops & orchardists get no return on their hard labor. Any fruit left on the ground also spread insects. since everyone won't have a fruit tree in their yard it's not a good idea to put orchidists out of busoness, right?
I just lightly bury them in pots and they all seem to grow without any prep. they don't seem to live all that long though. but its fun to see them grow while they last
