How to Grow and Care Dianthus Plant in Pots - Dianthus is one of the best flowering plants that you must grow at your home. In today's video you would see the complete life cycle of Dianthus from seedling to flowering.
Just make sure to keep deadheading your Dianthus plants on a continuous basis and you would be able to enjoy blooms for a long time.
The best thing about Dianthus is that, you can grow Dianthus in full sun and in part shade as well. Most of my plants were getting only 3 hours of direct sunlight and they bloomed well. However, there were few plants which were exposed to full sun and they bloomed like crazy. Believe me, Dianthus is one of the easiest plants to grow.

If you have any questions, please let me know and I would really appreciate your feedback on the video. Thank you very much for watching, have a great time :-)

very useful video for me because I planted the seeds a few weeks ago, but I have a problem: all the seedlings have a very thin stem, it doesn't get stronger. For some days I have put a lamp at 6500k and when it is sunny I put it in the direct sun. They are growing but at the base the stem does not get bigger. What can I do?

Very informative video with details. I have Dianthus plant. Recently I noticed it's leaves wilting. I felt it was because of some underwatering, and also perhaps less sunlight because I had shifted to less sunny area for 2-3 days due to some issue on my plant stand. But now after watering as well, soil is wet, yet it's leaves are in wilted state, though there are few flowers on as earlier. Any clue what is wrong, is it rather due to over watering or lack of sunlight a few days back? Please suggest. For now feeling it's rather over watering, I have paused watering and kept in usual sunlight for soil to dry out. It seems today some leaves, especially lower are regaining some form. But let me know if you have any suggestion or reason for wilted state?

@Luidee Weedy, Sorry for the late reply...1 inch tall..little bit early :-) Would be better to wait bit more (around 7-10 days) and then you can plant straight in to the border. Of course you can shift them from pot to your garden..Honestly saying, Dianthus can be easily grown in small pot. For example, we can easily grow 2 plants in a 6-8 inch wider and deeper pot. That way, they look much more fuller and because of the same reason, I usually try to grow two different colored plants in a single pot :-)

Nice video. How can i make my dianthus plant bushy at the time of flowering. Now it is 4 inches tall.
@GardeningUpbeat
@GardeningUpbeat 4 года назад
@Pravat jena, thank you for your question. Dinathus itself is a bushy plant but if they don't get required amount of sunlight, they grows bit leggy. And, that time the plant looks seek. Dianthus would bloom even if we provide them 1-2 hours of direct Sunlight but it won't looks bushy. Providing 6+ hours of direct sunlight, we would get a bushier plant and lots of blooms. Since your plant is 4 inch tall, definitely it has not reached the maturity level. If it's getting lots of direct Sunlight, you don't have to worry and it would look bushier very soon. But if not, I believe you can keep the pot in other place where it gets lots of sunlight. Plz let me know if you have any questions. Thank you once again for watching the video :-)

Another thing... Wat to do with the dianthus plant in summer?
@GardeningUpbeat
@GardeningUpbeat 4 года назад
@Himakshi Sharma, If you like, you can save them for next season. For that, those need to be kept in shade almost. 1-2 hours of direct sunlight or dappled sunlight would be fine. Also, need to saved from rainfall as much as possible. I usually don't try to keep them. Instead grow summer plants in that space :-)

My dianthus is already blooming...I purchased in blooming state from the nursery. But the pot size is small, so I have to repot them in bigger pot using the soil mix u told here. After that ,when can I fertilise the plant? Should I wait for some time after repotting ?
@GardeningUpbeat
@GardeningUpbeat 4 года назад
@Deepsikha Chaudhury, If you repot your plant, you can wait minimum 15 days before fertilizing and even if you fertilize after 30 days, it would be fine as well. how to save dianthus plant for next seasion
@GardeningUpbeat
@GardeningUpbeat 4 года назад
@Prantick Nath Prantick Nath, it's not that difficult but would depend on temperature as well. I have Dianthus plants from last year and should have done a video about it. Anyway, here are the process - 1. You would need to save it from the Mid-day - Afternoon direct sunlight at any cost. However, few hours of morning sunlight would be fine. 2. Protect the plants from heavy rainfall. Only these 2 steps. But like I said, it depends on Temperature. For example - in my place this year highest temperature was 39°C (quite high and average was around 34°C) and they survived. But I don't think they would be able to survive if temperature constantly stays above 40°C. Hope I answered your question. Thank you for watching :-)

@Shanthala shalu, Look like either too much direct sunlight or pest attack. If they are under direct sunlight for many more hours, please protect them if possible. Temp is still too high for Winter flowering plants unless we don't take special care. For pest attack, please use Neem Oil. Dose - 5-7ml Neem Oil + 4-5ml light hand wash (like savlon) and then mix them in 1 liter water. Then, you can spray your plants once in 5-7 days, Good luck :-) I would appreciate if you don't call me Sir, just a request :-)

@Pinkrafts100, There could be many reasons actually and few are like - 1. Exposure to too much direct sunlight 2. Fungus attack 3. Soil is too wet (this usually causes the 2nd issue) 4. Seeds are not good enough. So, you would need to see which one is going wrong and what to fix...Good luck and anyway, it happens with all of us. Sometimes, we just need to try once again :-)

Pinching not needed..or else, you may remove the new buds. But, deadheading it important and please do it on regular basis. You can refer my very first video on Channel - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-HXsE21p0KbA.html Thank you!
