How to grow lavender from seeds and a trick that I found to help germination rates. First of all you want to chill your lavender seeds before you even try to plant the seeds. Lavender seeds need light to germinate so you want to press them onto the soil surface. Use a squirt bottle to keep the seeds moist while they are germinating under the lights.
The true lavender is what bloomed for me last year from seed.

Hello Heidi, I would chill them for at least 2 weeks in the refrigerator you could put them in the freezer for colder chilling temps. Just remember to put them in the ziplock bag so you don't damage your seeds. The longer you let them chill the better the germination. These batches that I did here the seeds chilled for months. Happy Gardening, Carrie

Hello, My parents cardiologist and the CRNP/certified registered nutritionist that all of us went to who are highly recognized for their services recommends eating real butter. My best friend who is a CRN an into nutrition and the family doctors all recommend eating real butter. Your body cannot break down margarine because of the artificial ingredients. If there was a problem with real butter the nutritionist would have been telling us about it. Yes real butter does help your nails grow strong. Yes sour cream is good for you too. Everyone does have their own opinions but these are the facts that we have so far from the medical teams. Check with your health advisor first. Everybody's bodies are different on how they process stuff. Some people can live in pollution and other people can't it depends on your body. I'm not going to argue on what is healthy for some people and not for others.

I tried following a kit i got. But this is a lot more detailed. For the kit they just said to sprinkle the seeds on top and once they were there i couldn’t really see them anymore you know? Reading these comments i see you can refrigerate them? Also, I’m in Texas so we have a lot of sun for the majority of the year. Can i do this without an artificial light? Also, could i use just a disposable casserole dish? A friend of mine uses them as little greenhouses, but i don’t want to mess it up again 😂

Unfortunately this is why she has low germination rate. Take your seeds and lightly dampen a paper towel evenly. Evenly distribute your seeds over half the paper towel and fold the other half on top. Carefully place paper towel seed bed into a ziplock bag and place in the fridge for a month. Take the ziplock out and place in a warm area (does not have to be sunny). Check every day and as soon as they sprout you can plant them in the soil. They’ll need little water but much light. You’ll get nearly 100% germination!

I like your approach to gardening and nice work on your videos. When you determine the approach to sewing seeds is it based on the seed's size only or is there more? Thanks
@carriesgardeningchannel856
@carriesgardeningchannel856 2 года назад
Thank you! A lot of my approach to sowing seeds is experimenting and seeing how something grows best. Taking what I learned over the years and then teaching that. If something says that it needs light to germinate then I always surface sow them. If the seeds are really small I don't always cover them, if just depends. Like pansies say they need darkness to germinate them but I have found that surface sowing the seeds an putting a dark lid over top of them works best. Some seeds I can just look at them and I know how to sow them. I've been gardening since 2003, that was the year that I myself got into gardening, I grew up around it and I am still learning, you will always continue to learn when you garden. I hope that helps you! Your welcome! Happy Gardening! Carrie

Here's my question is it possible to sow the seeds and place the planters in the refrigerator for about 2 weeks prior to placing out to grow

Some say barely water and bottom temps of 40-50 degrees and this one is showing a temp of 90 degrees from the light source. Shade or full sun, hot or cold lol. Hi, I would chill them for at least 2 weeks you could put them in the freezer for colder chilling temps. Just remember to put them in the ziplock bag so you don't damage your seeds. The longer you let them chill the better the germination. These batches that I did here the seeds chilled for months. Happy Gardening! Carrie

your seeds are very dark mine are well, purple, did I get the right seeds? I used the jiffy planting tray and not one has sprouted! i have the grow light and a heat pad, do they need to be placed on the top of the soil like coleus seeds? cause I planted them like in the pods and then buried them and help would be nice still have half the seeds left and after watching this they went in the frezzer

Once the seeds germinate and the sprouts are large enough to transplant, what type of soil do you use? My lavender seeds finally sprouted. However, I'm not sure if I can just use miracle grow potting mix or not when I transfer them to their pots. Thank you for any advise I'm a newbie gardener.

I have had better success at planting cuttings than seeds. It is a long road fm seed to lavender plant. For cuttings I water with rain water. Everything seems to prefer the rainwater. I have lots of seedlings coming along though. I try everything.

You don't want your water that hot that it would damage the seeds, you want your water to be on the warmer side but not steaming. You should be fine to plant your seeds, yes my soil is still warm when I plant mine.

They will not germinate unless they are stratified so they need to be placed on a damp paper towel inside a ziploc bag for 2 weeks. After the 2 weeks remove the seeds and leave them in the sealed bag and as they start germinating transfer them from inside the ziploc bag into potting soil and then under a grow light.

I put lavender seeds on a damp paper towel in the back of the fridge for 14 days. I left them in the sealed ziploc bag which was still moist and as they sprouted after a week transferred the sprouted seeds into potting soil and they are growing fine under indoor grow lights.
