Is your beard patchy? Do you want to grow more facial hair? Are you a little hesitant to try minoxidil? If you answered yes to one or all 3 of these questions, then this is the video for you.
I've been able to make significant progress on growing my facial hair and filling in beard patches without using minoxidil at all.
Hope you guys enjoy the video!

Fantastic video! However, there are some problems and missing info that need to be addressed... *Notes:* • About *peppermint oil* - *cornmint oil* actually contains _more_ menthol than peppermint oil (which - when applied topically - increases cutaneous blood flow, as noted in the video's description), so you can use cornmint oil as a substitute and use less of it, and it's cheaper, so it's gonna be noticeably cheaper over time (and apparently it smells sweeter and more pleasant). Cornmint also has the same powerful cooling effect that peppermint is known for, all while (still) promoting hair growth. It's better than peppermint oil in basically every way. • Don't use a *derma roller.* Use a *dermapen* or at least a *derma stamp.* The perforations are far more clean and controllable as well as far less damaging. It's also far easier to maintain and replace the pins for a dermapen than most derma rollers. If you can't use a dermapen, or can't find a good one at a reasonable price, at least use a derma stamp, but whatever you do, do _not_ use a derma roller. - Derma rollers cause a lot of unnecessary horizontal damage for not a very deep puncture. With the proper pin length (2mm - this is how deep facial hair follicles are), they cause way too much damage and are too prone to infection. Derma stamps are already infinitely better, but a dermapen is the gold standard, especially one that boasts thinner pin length - derma rollers usually have far thicker pins than newer dermapens. • You already corrected yourself about using *pumpkin seed oil,* *rosemary oil,* and *lavender oil,* so I won't talk about those too much, but *aloe oil* is the perfect carrier oil. Not only is it not considered a DHT blocker nor (anti)androgenic, it has multiple important properties that make it the obvious choice over *joboba oil* or *caster oil:* It's antiseptic, preventing the perforated skin from getting infected and preventing any bacterial buildup that might otherwise occur in the container of oils. It soothes the skin - perforated skin feels like a mild sunburn, especially the deeper the punctures are. It promotes faster healing, allowing for deeper/more frequent perforations (and should reduce the tiny drops of spot bleeding that deep micropuncturing causes). - Using aloe oil will also help protect the sensitive skin against sun damage, preventing the need for the use of a less useful oil with a high SPF value, e.g., coconut oil, which is sourced in a way that's terrible for the environment, or a high amount of peppermint oil, which would irritate the skin, defeating the entire purpose of using it. - By the way, it's worth mentioning that peppermint oil is potentially a DHT blocker, but there's limited scientific evidence either way. There's even less information about cornmint oil. • Minoxidil is a collagen inhibitor, which actually tends to be why a lot of people use a derma roller with it - derma rollers don't reach the facial hair follicles, but the collagen induction from the roller's expansive horizontal skin damage synergizes with the drug. Minoxidil isn't required, but using the proper oils and the proper micropuncture device *alongside* the drug should obviously give you the best and fastest results. - Don't use minoxidil on the same day that you use your dermapen or derma stamp except for the very first day. • Whether or not you decide to use minoxidil or oils, you'll have to maintain its application as well as the collagen induction therapy (micropuncturing) for up to 1-3 years before the new hairs reach their terminal stage, i.e., they become permanent. _Then_ you can stop the perforation and oil application and those hairs will continue to grow. However, for the fullest beard possible, you can continue these processes indefinitely. Micropuncturing has other thoroughly-researched benefits, e.g., reducing wrinkling, scarring, & stretch marks. • Whether you use minoxidil, rosemary oil, or both, you'll likely experience increased itching. The study referenced used minoxidil and rosemary oil on the scalp, but this absolutely applies to beards too, especially if you already have some itching issues with yours.) Apply beard balm to your existing facial hair *last.* If you apply minoxidil, wait 4 hours before applying beard balm or any other moisturizer, including the oils. This can be annoying, as minoxidil contains alcohol and quickly dries out your face. • Use an electric exfoliating brush instead of a standard brush, preferably on a low speed setting. It'll force the oils to penetrate much more deeply into the skin, hair follicles, and hairs themselves, while still being less damaging, far more effective, and less irritating than derma rolling + regular brushing thanks to the dermapen, aloe oil, and cornmint oil. - Note that when I say "less irritating", I'm assuming you'd use a derma roller of appropriate effective pin length - 2mm - which is extremely damaging compared to using a dermapen or derma stamp of the same pin length. - Don't use the (roughest) "exfoliating" attachment. Use the gentler brush attachment. If needed, use the extremely gentle silicone attachment. • If your skin is hypersensitive to deeper perforations, consider applying a *zinc oxide ointment* after brushing the oils in. Alternatively, you could mix some *zinc oxide powder* directly into your oils. • If you're concerned about your blood not enough vitamins to properly stimulate new hair growth as mentioned in the video, consider adding *prickly pear seed oil* to the aloe oil as a secondary carrier. It's a relatively neutral oil with a ridiculous amount of vitamins, even compared to argon oil, and has antioxidant, antibacterial, & soothing properties. It's not necessary, but I would recommend it. *Each product's purpose:* • A *dermapen* (or derma stamp): By far the best microneedling tool. Induces collagen production, and therefore anagen, via epithelial proliferation. • *(5%) minoxidil* (optional): A cutaneous vasodilator, i.e., it dilates skin blood vessels (a key to hair growth - check this video's description). • *Cornmint oil:* Increases cutaneous blood flow (wrt. collagen induction), hair growth, dermal thickness, follicle number & depth, and enzymatic activity of alkaline phosphatase (ALP); i.e., induces a rapid anagen stage. Cools and slightly numbs the perforated skin. • *Aloe oil:* Dilutes the cornmint oil. Prevents infection and bacterial buildup. Soothes the perforated skin. Promotes faster healing. Protects the perforated skin from sun damage. • *Prickly pear seed oil* (optional): Dilutes the cornmint oil. Adds many vitamins and antioxidants. Helps soothe the perforated skin and prevent bacterial buildup. • *Zinc oxide* (ointment or powder; optional): Promotes tissue repair and reduces inflammation & redness. Provides a protective barrier against moisture loss. • An *electric exfoliating brush:* Forces the oils and/or minoxidil to penetrate deeply into the skin, hair follicles, and hairs. • *(70%) Isopropyl alcohol:* Sterilizes any dermapen tips and exfoliating brush attachments used. • *2 watertight plastic containers:* Make sure it's wide enough for the exfoliating brush's attachments to fit inside. One container will hold the oil mixture and the other will hold the alcohol. (Alcohol is naturally antiseptic, so no need to worry about bacterial growth. After all, that's why we're using it as a sterilizing agent.) • *Beard balm:* Prevents and/or treats itching underneath facial hair.

it is however missleading .. Pumpkinseed oil is bad for the beard :-s .. but hey .. who cares right .. people with patchy beards usually have problems growing beards in those spots .. and adding on top of that a DHT blocker .. wont help 1 bit :-s

@@tahiatnawal not gonna say this method was 100% the solution but I have seen growth. So I started off with sideburns, chin hair and a mustache. The side burns started turning into cheek hairs with time but I had a big patch on both sides near the lip side. My goatee as I mentioned before was just chin hair and a mustache with no chin strap connecting to my mustache. However I feel like as I’m still growing (20 yrs old almost 21) my routine has definitely helped me awaken the hair follicle process more rapidly. For example without my routine it would take me forever for my genetic natural hairs to fill in my face. Now that I use my routine I feel like I am at a period in my life where the hair activity is at a high is also have alottttt of vellus hairs. Hoped this helps

Developed my own beard growth/hair restoration (I only have a tiny bit of hairline recession) by watching a ton of other videos and just stitching the pieces together and i basically landed on exactly what you're doing. I found this video after searching "pumpkin seed oil beard" after doing my dermastamp/pumpkin seed oil routine and it was validating to see that this was what you were doing too and are seeing results. I used topical minoxidil for about 3 months and stopped after I started getting crazy werewolf hairs basically everywhere that you wouldn't want them (long ear hair, ear lobes, forehead, hands, directly under my eyes, etc.). Terrifying. Luckily those hairs are starting to go away now. So I was interested in dermastamping/pumpkin seed oil sans minoxidil to actually *target* the hair growth where I want it. Very encouraged by this video!

@faceless-x-abberation8400 2 года назад
Thank you for this video! It's very informative and useful. I feel like I know about everything I need to know about derma rollers. I've been growing a beard off and on for about 5 years now and never heard of these things. I just happened to stumble upon an ad for one a few daye ago. So I picked up a cheap roller from the dollar store to use while I wait for the one I ordered from Amazon to arrive. I actually use monoxodil myself. I'm at the beggining of month 4. I have actually started to see a decent bit of new growth so far from it too. Which is really awesome. The problem is that the growth I'm getting is pretty much random and spread out. I've got small patches here and there on both cheeks that are really the main weak points I'm trying to fix. Since the monoxodil growth is spread out its not really causing those patches to fill in much. Rather, just helping my beard fullness in general. That's where the derma roller comes in. I can focus on those patches with it and really help those bare patches start seeing new growth. So I'm really stoked about adding it to my beard care routine. My only problem is the idea of only using it once or twice a week. I don't get it! What would it hurt to use the roller daily? Wouldn't more frequent use give you quicker results? I used the roller yesterday obviously as it was the first day I had one. Then I turned around and decided to try it again today. What are the dangers of using one everyday or just basic overuse if there is such a thing? I feel like the derma roller is going to boost the effectiveness of the monoxadil and vice versa. I know for a fact that the monoxadil is providing growth. So adding in the roller is only going to cause the growth to increase even more. I try to use everything I possibly can to help my beard grow better and fuller. I've been taking hair, skin and nails vitamins too. Then I also make my own high quality beard balm and beard oil. With oils and vitamins that I hand selected to provide what I think to be the best mixture for growth and hair health. Then on top of all that I use an air humidifier to give myself a steam treatment each morning right before my morning monoxodil application. So I've got several tools at my disposal to try and get my cheeks up to par with the rest of my beard. Funny thing is that I can grow a pretty full beard all around except for those bare patches on both cheeks. The patches aren't big enough to mess up my beard or anything. It's just that when my beard gets longer and longer those weak spots start to stand out more and more and they begin to bug me. So I decided to just grow a goatee and shave my cheeks, sideburns and jawline until my beard growth regimen fills in those patches enough to where I'm happy with it. Lol rant coming to a close. Thanks again for the info! If you would be so kind to answer my questions about overuse I'd really appreciate it! ✌🏻️ out!

A couple things i think are worth noting if you’d like to take a look at this: 1. Ive read that the 500- ish needle dermarollers tend to have more of a bed of nails effect and it’s probably best to use the 192 count needle rollers as the 500 ones use discs and the 192 count actually use individual needles. 2. Pumpkin seed oil and lavender are great for hair growth as they are also dht blockers, however this can prove to be potentially counterproductive for facial hair since dht plays a part in facial hair development. However I suppose this could be anecdotal for each person so if it’s working for ya have at it, just thought it might be worth mentioning. 3. Oh, if someone has enlarged pores and similar issues I suggest using the same 0,5mm roller for your whole face (or areas with enlarged pores), works like a miracle! I wouldn't recommend doing it more often than twice a week though, and if you do gotta make konger breaks between cycles (that's what commercial cosmetologists usually do, even more so with the longer needles.)

What should you apply on your skin after rollerblanding? Nothing? Asking for a friend 👀
@Sk0lzky
@Sk0lzky 3 года назад
@@TheActualAldo first of all clean (preferably boiled) water, as to the rest just do what you do except no exfoliants at all. There are various dedicated derma rolling serums available on most markets but they're usually pricy and I have no idea how good they are. Just make sure to use something delicate and anti-bacterial. Large pores are often accompanied by oily skin so in this case water-based stuff is best. If you prefer the diy route in general you want to maximise blood flow, hydrate (hyaluronic is the shit lol), have something anti-bacterial and anti inflammatory (e.g. clove or cinnamon oil, extract or even strong infusion, even stupid birch water works lol), provide some vitamins (a, e), basic stuff like that. I have no idea if there's anything besides vit. a that stimulates keratin bonding in skin that you can use topically, sorry. In case of enlarged pores you definitely need some kind of tightening agent (papain, lemon juice, neroli oil or something else with citral, Aloe vera which would also help soothe potential irritation) and something to create a barrier which, again, I have no idea what's great for that that's not oil, I've had good experience with argan oil though despite having oily skin so perhaps it's not completely bad. Rn I use a very light water-based cream my ex once bought me and I've been buying it since, but it's only available in my country (*)

Pumpkin seed oil is a DHT blocker. DHT plays a significant role in the growth of facial and body hair but it causes scalp hair follicles to miniaturize, provided the hair follicles are sensitive to DHT, which is determined by genetics. You would probably get better results if you swap out pumpkin seed oil for a different carrier oil that does not block DHT.

Great Video Travis. As a more mature beard wearer I can fully sympathise with guys growing out their beards for the first time, only to discover that it's coming through all patchy, but that sympathy is totally eclipsed by the dismay that I feel when they choose to reach for that bottle of Minoxidil as a quick fix solution, especially considering the potential side effects it can cause, some of which you mention in your video. The attitude around growing out a beard differs somewhat to growing out your hair..., beard growth is more of a pass-time to be savoured, (much like pipe smoking) where you relax into it, embracing each stage, discovering new looks, and allow yourself to develop more patience! If you hit the finish line straight out of the blocks, you're not allowing yourself the pleasure of observing the journey that you've undertaken to get there. At least now guys know that there is a safer method for cultivating that face-fuzz! 👍🏼

Side effects of minoxidil are in most cases not that serious. Let people themselves decide whether or not they want to use it. I'm not gonna wait 1 or 2 decades to get a full beard if I can get one in 1-2 years. Ironically it takes around the same time as to grow out your hair so your point of it not being a journey doesn't make sense either. Even with minoxidil it'll take some time

Hello, great video but as stated by the information you showed us pumpkin seed oil is a 5 ar inhibitor which is good for hair growth but bad for beard growth since it is anti androgenic. You would have far more success with a non anti androgenic oil like sunflower seed, jojoba or castor oil. Lavander and rosemary are anti androgenic too. So they are not ideal as well. Peppermint? Peppermint is great and most likely is the main character for beard here.

I've never applied any facial hair products on my face before, and I just recently started my research/information gathering regarding this topic. And to my personal observation, one thing that I've noticed is that skin hydration somehow stimulated small hairs on my cheeks to grow (3-4mm in length, in which I don't recall having/noticing before). This started out when I was having a breakout on my face (used to be dry due to stress and bad facial care routine). I begin to do my research on the most suitable skin care product for my skin type. For the past 2 months, I've been using a facial cleanser, lotion, moisturizer (twice a day) and facial masks (once/twice per week). And also drinking almost 3 litres of plain water daily. It's a positive result. Stay well hydrated and massage thoroughly your face/neck while washing your face. Thought of sharing this tip since this is the first video that I've watched on your channel. +1 sub

Nice info. I have read that in humans pumpking seed oil as well as lavender essential oil work as strong DHT blockers. They are perfect for your hair and are used to stop baldness but, ironically, DHT is necessary to maintain (and promote) male characteristics such as beards. So, probably you are not seeing faster results since you are applying opposite effects. I would sugest to use other carrier oil like Jojoba and change lavender to cedarwood instead. Keep the good work. I'm subscribing.

Hi, @@antoniocatalano7160. In my understanding, Sweet Almond oil stands out as the optimal choice for a carrier oil. Nevertheless, you can also effectively use Avocado and MCT Coconut oil. Sweet Almond oil is praised for fostering beard growth, while Avocado oil is acclaimed to enhance beard thickness. I know this is fairly old by now, but I'd be hesitant to use Rosemary oil for any kind of facial hair stimulation. Rosemary was trialed for hair regrowth in regards to AGA (Androgenic Alopecia, hair loss from testosterone/androgen affinity to hair follicles in the scalp), and therefore was successful in regrowth by reducing the activity of the 5-alpha-reductase enzyme which converts testosterone to a much more potent androgen called DHT (from my understanding of the Rosemary study). The problem with using this on the face instead of the scalp is that facial hair follicles are not inhibited by androgens in the same way scalp follicles are from those prone to male pattern baldness by AGA, they're actually dependent on them, making the use of any 5-ar inhibiting product counter productive since it's suppressing a very powerful androgen. Edit: He corrects this in a recent video, still worth leaving here for any one off watches
