Growing mushrooms in buckets is extremely simple and just about anyone can do it. You will need to source your own grain spawn from suppliers or make your own. If you don't know how to make your own grain spawn i have plenty of videos that demonstrate how, Check them out!

I made my mother a bucket last year and she had it hanging in the backyard all summer long... Mushrooms weekly. I am almost done prepping about 45 lb of seed spawn. Been doing it for 3 days now with my tiny pressure cooker lol. Soon it will be inoculation time!

Have you ever tried supplementing the straw with wood chips or something similar to boost your flushes and yield? Going to experiment with that next, just wondering if you have any experience in that realm ?

Hi, nice video! I'm curious if the color of the bucket matters? I mean a black color won't aloud any source of light, that would be better or is the same?

A black bucket might get too hot if left near a lot of sunlight but if it’s inside you would be fine.

Yes it will keep growing and you can add water for more.

After your mushrooms are done growing and close to winter. What do you do with the straw,so maybe it will grow mushrooms next spring where you dump your straw and mycelium?

Are there any other strains that can grow this way besides oyster? I’m thinking of any lion’s mane, agaricus, shittake, etc. obviously you would need to switch out substrate depending on the type of mushroom, but have you seen this work with anything else?

It's pretty impossible using this method in the SW as the air is just too dry. I had success putting my bucket in larger container and putting a layer of water in the bottom for moisture.

Great content!! One quick question for the mushroom lover: I'm placing micropore tape on the holes, anyone knows if I need to manually remove them after full colinization, or the pins have enough strengh to remove it by itself?

You should remove the tape once fully colonized but the mushrooms will likely fruit through the tape if you let them.

How long do you drain the straw for?

5-10 minutes of draining. Should only have a few drops coming out.

Will bigger holes drilled in or more # of holes increase the growth yields?

No bigger holes will create a big cluster of tiny mushrooms. If anything I would do less holes for a bigger yield

Yes, you can grow lions mane on straw. I only sell lions mane liquid culture right now.

You would need a atmospheric steam sterilizer barrel or a large autoclave. Or you can pasteurize a lot of straw in boiling water

I mean if you were to maybe use like a combination of wood pellets, straw and wheat bran in a bucket and pop the bucket in a tent, do you have as much sucess as using the grow bags? Am just thinking about trying to cut costs on the bags whilst still getting good yields. What do you think?

Can this exact straw tek be used For lions mane that prefers hardwood and psilocybin that prefers manure? Or do I have to replace the straw with those other substrates?

It will work but the yields will be small.

@@cp0cp927 Straw/wood for lions mane and yes it will grow out of the holes, substrate filled all the way to the top. Cubensis will work with cococoir/Verm in the bucket but I suggest filling the bucket 3/4 full and allow to top fruit inside the bucket instead of fruiting out of holes.

You should be able to get a second flush without doing anything more than misting the holes. The growth in this video was actually 2nd flush. After that I recommend just pouring some water through the top

@@threewithNOname Yes, the first flush won’t use all of the holes, so a second flush with come out of the holes that haven’t fruited yet or like you said, out of the same holes.

I would let nature take its course, when a bucket is fully colonized it is resistant to things like that. Plus we mixed the spawn into the bucket in open air and not in front of a laminar flow hood, and the straw is only pasteurized not sterilized so the whole grow is not supposed to be perfectly sterile. It’s really a race against time. You just keep an eye on it or you can place it outside.
