Thank you for this video. For some reason its been so hard for a year to find a solid video on growing specifically button/portobello, this is exactly what ive been looking for.
In South Africa Kwa-Zulu Natal where I grew up my Dad would pick us Makowe a Mushroom the size of a plate, it sprung up in the fields after a fresh rainfall, my Dad would pick the ones with Pinkish brown colour at the bottom this was important according to him. He then would fry it for us, it is better than Steak and something free, tasty and lovely from Mother Nature.
Ahh, the ever elusive button mushroom video. After much foraging and patients looking through youtube videos, we have found it. Thank you for making this! Also thank you for your excellence in products and delivery. Top quality, best price and fastest shipping. Always buying LC from you from now on. Mahalo from Hawaii!
Just in time. I still have a spore print of the delicious agaricus campestris which I found last fall. It would be great to grow these as they are way better than the common buttons. Thx for the great video!
Thank you so much . I was finding a tutorial for Portobello Mushrooms for entire year . And thank u for simplicity now I can grow button mushrooms with ease .
Great video, I like it👍. Have a question, which agar did you use? I had problems cloning this type of mushroom, very slow growth, unlike the wood-destroying ones. Have you researched the topic of liquid culture for this mushroom species? From experience, I tried potato broth and a little honey. Growth is slow, but present. I searched for information on this topic, which liquid culture recipe is suitable for this species, but there is very little information. I wish you patience and inspiration, what you are doing is very useful!💪🍄
I've tried 3 times to grow the tissue on agar plates this way. Two different stores, just in case. It doesn't work. I can't get mushrooms that are fresh enough to grow on agar. Is there another way? I notice that in this video, theres still substrate/soil on the bases of the mushrooms; are these your own home grown mushrooms? That would explain why the interior cut out sections grow on agar plates. Thank you.
@@scottbrackeen The mushrooms I cloned were from Meijer grocery store. I have also had problems cloning certain brands. I think some brands mess with the mushrooms to prevent people from propagating them. Keep trying until you find a brand that works.
Thank you so much, we want to start doing trials for button mushrooms, is there anyway you can assist, just little info ,where we face a problem, please.
The jiffy mix, that's the casing layer? Correct? Would it also work if I did a pseudo casing layer with Coco/vermiculite/gypsum mix? I've experimented in the past without a casing layer and the first flush comes out looking like weird slug blobs 🤣🤣 Still delicious but not very visually appealing. Pinning is also very sporadic. This is only the second time I'm going to be messing with a casing layer for the white button mushroom. Just trying to be frugal. To get the jiffy and hydrated lime it's gonna be like $50 .... Granted it'll last for many future runs, if I can get away with doing the pseudo casing, I'll do that.
I know what you mean but i made it easier, normally you would have to make special compost which takes months. With my method you don’t have to wait long.
Ok this is to intriquite and time consuming for such a small end result harvest, so in case of an apocalypse one of you out there better be good at this so I can come and barter with you!😌 So far I have bupkiss to barter with though, will be working on it!😂
@@michellevandeventer3126 The mushrooms keep growing back over and over! This was only a small demonstration. The process can be tweaked in certain ways to make it more efficient. I can grow over 20 different species and some are easier than others. If there is an apocalypse hit me up!
Oh gods... could you imagine getting reasonably predictable giant puffballs?! I will admit, I would possibly make myself sick at LEAST once with puffball parmesan sandwiches!
@@SporenSprout I do grow my own vegetables, and pressure can them up, and hunt my own meat and catch my own fish and seafood. I also forage wild edible mushrooms whilst I'm out and about. But this growing your own mushrooms appears to take a lot of tedious and knowledgeable efforts to keep things sterile. But I envy your desire for being successful. That variety has a different name for each size and color. That's something most people don't know or understand. Great video! I did enjoy it. 🥰👍
I learned one thing. I will still buy mine. This is way too much work for something that might fail anyway. If you want to grow mushrooms, grow Wine Caps, none of the sterilization nonsense.
So if you live in Los Angeles and don't have access to a pile of horse💩💩💩💩 other than what our politicians spew , do you have any recommendations what to buy or use as a substitute ........say like from Amazon? Thank you
@@SporenSprout even if you do have million/billion/trillion , People obviously like things shown as SIMPLIFIED as possible , i dont have my own opinion on the Topic , because at some point people Show different techniques on the same thing with slightly modified results , which all of this is great , and the content value of the videos is important too , So you could ADD " how to make AGAR " to the Video Aswell , but not the whole process , By showing Few Quick Shots from that Video in the Current Video with the words " visit the other video for more info " And Link in the Desc. down below will be More than Enough , You should try it Sometime when EDITING video 👍❤️👽
@@SomeOneHigh I say in every single video “if you have questions leave them in the comments” and I answer all questions….See how quick you got a reply? I also have a discord channel where people can live chat and ask questions. Most channels don’t even reply, I’d say my channel is perfectly fine the way I run it and I put a lot of work into it. Thanks for the advice, although it takes more work to connect everything like you suggest.
