Want to learn how to grow mushrooms in bottles?
View full article here: freshcap.link/...
In this video, I grow Flamulina velutipes (Enoki Mushrooms) in reusable plastic bottles. You can do the exact same process to grow oyster mushrooms in bottles, or any other species (except Shiitake).
The process is simple.
1. Fill a reusable bottle with substrate.
2. Bore a small hole in the middle.
3. Sterilize at 15 PSI for 90 Minutes.
4. Inoculate, colonize and fruit.
Growing mushrooms in bottles is more environmentally friendly than growing in bags- because there is less waste. But the real advantage is for larger farms and the ability to mechanize the process.
You are likely to get better yields and better process flows by just growing in bags.

@CampingforCool41
@CampingforCool41 2 года назад
@@NpgSymboL you should look into wine cap mushrooms. If you’ve got a veggie garden you can set aside a little space for a bed of straw or wood chips and toss some sawdust spawn in. Much easier than these indoor growing processes. If you mulch with straw or woodchips in your garden or under fruit trees already to suppress weeds then you don’t even have to set up a special bed for wine caps, you can just have them growing among everything else.

I love mushrooms! watching these videos are making me hungry! I want to grow my own because the local Asian food stores are often out of the varieties I like, like oyster and enoki. It's easy to get dried shiitaki to keep conveniently in the pantry, but I want Oyster mushrooms with everything! I'm finally gonna try to grow my own since my awesome neighbor has a source of food grade buckets being recycled to give me. Now with this video, I think I also want to try to grow enoki since they are my second favorite and I love them in Miso Soup and hearty Nabe soup dishes! THank you so much for these videos.

I LOVE this idea. I want to grow mushrooms for just myself but the grow blocks produce way too much for a single person and I would like to have different kinds of mushrooms available to use at the same time. @Mycoholicsanon
@Mycoholicsanon 5 лет назад
Yo bro. The reason why you can't get tall fruits is because you micro climate was not big enough Hence why the sleeves on the bottle worked better because it's a "bigger" micro climate. With your grow bags leave the plastic taller so your fruiting bodies will grow taller because to the mycellium it's basically like trying to grow over the hight of grass. Most mushrooms only spread the cap or become 100% mature once they get their cap above their micro climate where the mycellium recognizes it to be.

LEO Artist no bro those are edible. @dogguy8603
@dogguy8603 4 года назад
@@TripleDDDD why is that?
@TripleDDDD
@TripleDDDD 4 года назад
dog guy 2 reasons: the substrate is spent (no more nutritions for the mushroom) and a new clean bottle/substrate avoids infections with mold. That‘s the clean way to do it. On the other hand, what you suggest would work as well. As long as there is mycelium and enough substrate the mushrooms will grow.

Why is there such a big deal on making sure there’s no contamination. Does that mean bacteria will prevent the shrooms from growing or does it make a different type of mushroom
@tentacleGodhead
@tentacleGodhead 5 лет назад
Meemerz Gaming It's because you want to prevent other fungi from colonizing your growth environment! The air we normally breathe often has a variety of fungal spores, and they can easily sit unnoticed in our food, the air that we breathe, anything really. When you're growing mushrooms, you're creating the perfect environment for them and any other unwanted fungi.
@tentacleGodhead

for the modified cap, can we use a cotton ball instead of pillow stuffing?
@Metqa
@Metqa 4 года назад
This is just a guess, but cotton is organic. It used to be alive. Mushroom(fungus) are decomposers. They break down organic things. If you use cotton, it could likely be "eaten up" during the process. Polyfil is from an inorganic compound and so it will be more resistant to decomposition. I used to tutor my friends son in science lessons and we talked a lot about worms, bugs, mold and fungus and how they help recycle organic compounds locked into higher order life ,like plants and dead animals, so that they can be recycled and used again by roots of plants that will eventually be eaten by animals, etc. The circle of life and all that...He liked the GRIM stuff a lot, LOL

what i learned on some psylocibe related forum = use wide neck jars or 2-5l plastic buckets - they all are wide opening tapered to botom sooo you have to only flip em upside down an tap fev times to clean ;) also food grade plastic is aviable and autoclaving is also an option in some cases (of buckets, jars without any concerns but they r small like 333ml or 0.5l at best )

Honest question now, do they have a specially strong smell? Would you notice it in an apartment?
@parisgreen4600
@parisgreen4600 4 года назад
I'm assuming that Enoki are similar to oyster mushrooms in this regard - they have a very mild, clean 'mushroom' scent, and you have to be inches away to smell it. I think they would be fine for apartment growing.

Yes but it isn't recommended because there is a greater chance of contamination and there is less nutrients in the spent substrate than traditional grain or sawdust spawn

@FreshCapMushrooms
@FreshCapMushrooms 5 лет назад
You can use a small stove top pressure cooker, if not, then you can try "super-pasteurizing" but that can take up to 24 hours or more.

@HidekiShinichi

putting them ou in the water and boilinf them down. Check internat temp with thermometers when its 80 c it should be sterile but let it go to around 100 and leave it for 10 minutes after measuring temp. At least thats what they were teaching me in a cooking school. 80c and your food is essentialy sterile.

Yes, you could just use glass cups as well. You also don't necessarily need a pressure cooker if you can't afford one, you can can just microwave your prepared substrate in order to sterilize it before inoculation. I don't know about the hole thing he did, but I think its perfectly fine to have a mycelium cake all the way through. Once that's done, you can shake those cakes out into a plastic box with some poorly cut out holes at the top and sides lol , and mist them daily. shrooms will start to grow once the cakes are out of the darkness. Good Luck. Trash a cake once you see signs of ANY contamination, don't take that risk.
@mobilisq
@mobilisq 5 лет назад
@@timtim9o5 microwaving the sub would dry it out, though, which is why steam sterilizing is done. you can use a tall pot instead of a pressure cooker, but would need to add water to the bottom occasionally. also the sub shown in this vid isn't right for grass eating mushrooms
@timtim9o5
@timtim9o5 5 лет назад
@@mobilisq Nope, just saturate your vermiculite substrate, and nuke it. You should also cover it whilst doing this, but either way, microwaving it will not dry it all out and even in that, just....add boiled water after nuking the substrate ??? The point is just to make sure its a sterilized environment. That can most easily be achieved with a microwave as any microorganisms in the substrate are killed by the radiation. The vermiculite has good water retention regardless of the evaporation.
@theGreaterAwareness
@theGreaterAwareness 5 лет назад
Of course it will work. The only thing that is a factor is the substrate. Primordia have just as much medicinal value as the fully developed mushroom and so you will want to have a container that allows you to access the primordia without bruising them. That is why glass jars with a wider top than bottom is ideal. Take the lid off and all slides out.

Thanx for the video. What are the conditions like in your grow room in terms of lighting and temperature? Do you get a lager yield in the jars compared to the growing bags? Do you eat a lot of musshrooms your self? What 's your favourite enoki recipe?
@EctoMorpheus
@EctoMorpheus 5 лет назад
Great video! Left me wondering, in what kind of environment do you store the jars during the inoculation and fruiting processes? Since there is an air filter on the jars, I assume they need to inoculate in a well-ventilated area? I've tried growing them in my cellar before but that didn't really work out...
@MikeHunt420
@MikeHunt420 5 лет назад
the idea is that during colonisation of the jars you want the co2 levels to build up, you dont need much gas exchange during the colonisation period, during fruiting you would allow for a healthy amount of fresh air exchange, temp: 24c
@EctoMorpheus
@EctoMorpheus 5 лет назад
@@MikeHunt420 all right, thanks! As far as ventilation and fruiting goes, do you think it would be possible to fruit the mushrooms in a small, closed greenhouse together with some plants such that the air remains warm and moist but the plants provide fresh oxygen?
