Mushrooms did wonders in my life. I suffered severe depression and mental disorder years after i lost my dad. Got addicted to alcohol. Spent my whole life fighting alcohol addiction. Not until my wife recommended me to psilocybin mushrooms treatment. Psilocybin treatment saved my life honestly. 6 years totally clean. Much respect to mother nature the great magic shrooms.

Ive done shrooms last month in my house. It taught me how severely traumatized I was from alcohol. I healed from many mental traumas from my past and was able to forgive, let go. Shrooms to me is a remedy not a vice. I even felt more refreshed the morning after. So no hangovers. No depression mood for days. No anxiety.I now have a more calm mind

@@arnyarny77 I've learned that it is harder to grow containment free here in central Texas. The bucket method works great. When I wish for bigger clutches I'll cover some of the fruiting holes with duct tape. And I always have a water bottle mister on hand and spray them once pinned to keep them hydrated and out of the wind's drying effects.

Excellent video. Used an old pickle jar and some brown rice. Drilled hole in top of pickle jar for poly batting (from old jacket) and smaller hole for syringe of spores. Don't have a pressure cooker so swished boiling water around jar and dipped lid in boiling water. Prepared brown rice as shown. Put cool rice in just sterilized (I hoped) jar and pushed a little batting through lid and put on. Injected spores and put scotch tape over syringe hole. Didn't have much hope but already had pickle jar and brown rice is pretty cheap. A week later saw a little mistiness on inside of jar, thought it might be mold but let it be. By a week and a half jar is filled with mycelium and a day later mycelium is starting to climb inside of jar. Added it to substrate the next day and it was already starting to fruit a little. Here's hoping for a good mushroom crop. Thx so much for the video!

Same here....i have Saved up mason jars I have a use for now from previous years of canning and since I don't can anymore and give them to my neighbor who actually does still can, but I forgot to take them to her so I guess I'll keep them now to try this process out!!! I'm glad I found this video cuz I'm just in the processs of researching all this mushroom growing stuff,kind of glad I didn't take my canning stuff down there yet! Cuz it also would have included my pressure cooker and stuff she was just going to get all my canning stuff! she didn't really need them if she actually was in need of them I would take them down there right away obviously ...but she was just taking them off my hands to be nice so I have the extra space.... So I'm kind of glad I forgot to take them.... Knowing I still had my jars is what got me to watch the video at first and then once I seen the pressure cooker I was glad I didn't get rid of my canning supplies since I still have everything on hand for this part at least already I'm excited to be able to trying it now ..I just gotta buy grains and the spores to inject figure out part of the process after the grains are done!! Or does anyone know if there is a part 2 to with this video with the next step after grains are done?

Permatex blue RTV silicone is rated for up to 500°F. Red RTV is rated for up to 650°F. Both are rated for temps that are higher than temps reached in your pressure cooker (15 psi should be about 257°F.) Use whatever color RTV silicone your fashion sense desires.

With oyster mushrooms you can skip a LOT of steps, because they are so virulent they will outcompete everything else in the grain/substrate. You can just boil the grain, then cool and drain it and add the culture straight to it, no sterilising needed. You can even use the 'stem butts' of very fresh oyster mushrooms in place of culture, which allows true self sufficiency at a home scale. You can EVEN skip the gain altogether and spawn them directly on shredded carboard. Oyster mushrooms are AWESOME.
@denisejames2007
@denisejames2007 Год назад
True indeed. I did the cardboard thing with stems from the grocery store and it works fine (however, a bunch of those little flies got to it so I never transferred it to a straw bed). One question - when I harvest all of the mushrooms from this batch, can I just refresh the mycelium with more straw and get more mushrooms or do I have to do the whole spore to mycelium pickle jar thing again?
@insertphrasehere15
@insertphrasehere15 Год назад
@@denisejames2007 Those are probably phorid flies (if they look like sand-flies) or scarid flies if they look like mosquitoes. They are a bit annoying, and I've had both of them at times (they tend to disappear in winter, and come back in summer). I notice them flying around my growing bags in my grow tent, and notice them inside my spawn bags, and I'm sure they eat some of the mycelium as it is growing, but honestly, they don't seem to affect my yields at all. I don't personally consider them a problem, as I've eaten a lot of wild mushrooms and they are super common in wild mushrooms of all kinds. If you want to remove them, I've heard that you can use stick traps to trap the adults, which helps break the lifecycle.
@insertphrasehere15
@insertphrasehere15 Год назад
@@denisejames2007 as for your question, while it might work to just add more straw, it also might not. I haven't done a lot of work with straw beds, as I personally find it easier to work with bags. I'm wary of contamination with other funguses, which is why I only transfer with the stem butts, and make fresh spawn to start the new bags, but I've seen others experiment with just using the pre-used substrate as spawn. I'm sure it will work once or twice, you'll just have a greater risk of contamination.

I boiled the straws for 30 minutes, after cooling down completely, added the fresh oyster mushroom bits and keep the mixture in a plastic lunch box, not even drilling a hole, 2-3weeks grain spawn ready. I used the same method to prepare substrate today, just used more straws this time. Will wait for two more weeks for mycelium. This is my first experiment, fingercross I can see new oyster mushrooms from here

My GF's name is 'Jackie'. We went to 'thrift shops' one after the other looking for a pressure canner/cooker. We found lots of the little stovetop 'cookers' everywhere and on the 5th store, a Goodwill store, we found a Presto 23-quart pressure canner exactly like the one in the video. It was lightly used and in the original box from the 1990's complete with the instruction book. It cost $17.99 . The same cooker new is about $120. The name "Jackie" was written on the box by whoever owned it before which is super freaky.

Tape a few quarters to the rocker, this will allow it to go up to 18 or 19 psi before it starts rattling, allowing for a quiet sterilization cycle. Also shake and toss your boiled grains in a strainer a lot when you first drain them, the more you shake them the more steam can escape all the grains as opposed to just the grain on the outside surface of the pile.

2:13 Just to add here, the ratio of volume expansion between dry and hydrated grains can vary a lot by type of grain, specific brand/vendor, soak time and temperature, etc. For example, the grains you're using here expand by 300%, but popcorn would be more like 30% - and that would still vary a lot by variety of corn and the vendor. Basically, you'll have to figure out the specific expansion ratio for the grain spawn and recipe you're using for yourself. Every time you change any of it, do a test batch - fill up a bunch of jars with dry grains, measure the total volume, hydrate them using your recipe, measure the new total volume; wet volume / dry volume = expansion ratio. You could also just not care and guesstimate every time, but that easily results in either not having as much spawn as you need, or wasting and throwing out excess which can really add up over time. TL;DR - Test out and write down your expansion ratios for the specific grains you're using. Next to zero extra work, and it's highly useful data for planning out exactly how much grain you need for every batch.

You can put the hot grains in the jar, after straining the water, and immediately put the lids on! Helps as well to have the lids and rings sitting in hot water right before you put them on the jars. The jars need to be hot as well to avoid thermalshock to the jars!

When making your lids, you can use a wet paper towel to flatten out the RTV for a nice smooth injection port :) The silicone won't stick to it even as sticky as that stuff is. 🍻 P.S. Thanks for the vid! And the clap was GREAT! XD

Can anyone please explain how do you ensure the grain spawn do not catch contaminants while they are drying if you leave them in a sinc or on a drying rack?
@jessicabarker-tripp7828
@jessicabarker-tripp7828 7 месяцев назад
it sounds like to me from watching the video that even after you dry them I don't think it would really matter if you sterilize it in the pressure cooker anyways. I mean I could be wrong if I am somebody correct me please .. but that would be my first thought... But I have never grown mushrooms before except for a couple growing kits I bought I've never done this process but I'm trying to learn about it but for a second I thought the same question and then he went onto the pressure cooker so I figured okay it's going to get sterilized after that anyway so any risk of contaminants from drying them would be no more.. if there was any risk I don't think he would have continued the process injecting them with the spores.

tips ive learned through trial and error: when making the holes you can simply use a hole punch(er) and ditch the drill when making the injection ports use a wet paper towel to shape the blob of rtv red high temperature silicone aka gasket marker if you cant find it at home depot or lowes give auto zone or oreilys a trip! for the gas exchange hole id say dont use the pillow stuffing fibers but use instead some micro pore tape and if you can get some plastic mason jar lids id go with that over the metal to avoid rust instead of letting it soak overnight let it simmer for maybe 5-15 mins or just until its soft on the outside but hard in the middle when your draining them use a sifter the metal kitchen ones its very helpful use tinfoil over the top when sterilizing when injection the liquid culture dont bother heating the tip of the needle til its red hot unless your using it for 2-3+ jars but other than that it comes sterile make sure to store it in a fridge it can last up to a year to a year and a half when refrigerated i shake 3 times during colonizing but that is up to you have fun growing! and stay safe everyone

@@plamenconev3387 yeah that works well id recommend using polly-fill, its whats in cheap pillows its plastic cotton basically.
