Thank you for your appreciation. I always use Wilko seeds. They are low price and very reliable - I have only had one packet out of hundreds that failed to germinate.
I'd like to add that once they have finished flowering it is easy to harvest them and get thousands of seeds. I grew one packet like this last year and harvested the plants, now have more pansie seedlings growing in trays than I can possibly use.
So it's about 15 days now since I planted some pansy seeds & have kept the pots indoors. Now, little sprouts have started to come out. Should I put them out in the sun for a few hours, or is it still too early for that? BTW, I'm in the SF Bay Area. Thank you.
hello, I planted the seeds, the tiny leaves (dicots?) came out but they do not grow any more (at least 10-15 days passed). Should I put them in shadow or cover them again? Thanks
The flowers turn into pods when they've finished flowering. The pods then split open showing the tiny seeds inside. Look for open pods on your pansy plants and you can save those seeds, dry them then sow them.
I repotted my morning glory today and my cornflowers am worried I might have killed them I was careful they are in my little greenhouse I was gonna put them out tomorrow then back in the greenhouse at night would this be the correct way to do it also do very young plants need shade more than direct sunlight for a few weeks till they harden thankyou
Hi Karen. You are right to bring them back in overnight and gradually harden them off. Also keep seedlings out of direct sunlight as they lose too much moisture and dont have the root system to replace it from the soil.
Could the pansy grow in tropical country with temperature around 28-32 celcius? I’ve read that pansy likes cool breeze weather. Anw, i like the video :)
Thank you, this was very easy to follow. It'll be my 1st time planting from scratch; seeds that is. Question for anyone (may seem odd but I'd rather ask than assume). Does the seed tray have drainage & where do I keep the seed tray during its selefane wrap phase?
The seed tray has small drainage holes. Keep the soil damp (but not wet or the seedling roots will rot). Keep the seed tray in a warm (15 to 20 deg C ideally) bright place but not in direct sunlight.
All the articles I read say to germinate them in cool darkness. What’s the difference? I’m trying to grow some right now for Fall. Any insight would help! I am also in zone 7 in the US if that makes a difference.
Two questions -- #1 no cold stratifying? I read you were supposed to refrigerate them 2 weeks first. #2 You kept the tray outside while germinating? I was thinking of doing that so I don't have to harden them off 2 more weeks and they can get in the garden as soon as my frost date passes.
Just one question. Is it ok to sow the seeds in speed are compartments of a propagator tray and therefore avoid having to separate them once they’ve started to grow?
Thank you for your appreciation.Keep covered until the seeds germinate. Only remove to water if the compost dries out but it shouldnt need water as the cover traps the moisture.
after planting the seeds and covering with a plastic do you keep watering and if so how often? I had planted pansies early this year and they came out lots of it. But they never flowered till now
Hi Evelyn. The plastic film should keep the soil moist but if if looks dry keep it moist (but not soaking wet or the seeds can rot)until the seeds germinate then remove the plastic covering.
Hi Shann. The plastic should keep the moisture in so you should not have to but keep an eye on the soil and if it starts to dry then add a little water. Keep safe.
