Two years ago I tossed out the guts of a spaghetti squash. This summer, there is spaghetti squash hanging from the tops of my trees. It is the gift that keeps on giving. Thank you for showing us your set up.

August 2023 Hi there! I live in Washington State. I had an idea of a wooden trellis for my pumpkin plant; however, I came to You Tube searching for gardener ideas on You Tube and located your page. I have subscribed. I am not sure if you are still gardening. It shows 6 years ago. I like your trellis ideas. The fold up one is closer to my design I have in my mind. I did not have the idea to place folding hinges at the top, so that my friend is an added idea I thank you for. Hoping all is well, thank you and God bless!

Great timing, I actually just revived my channel this season. I used those trellis through 2019. The fold up made it easy for me to tuck away behind my shed during the winter. Unfortunately, being exposed to the elements year round and the abundance of termites in our area got to them. Next time I build them, I will be using treated lumber.

I was looking for new trellis ideas and this brought back so many memories. I've been growing backyard pumpkins since about 2008 in every variety I can find. They always take over my yard and outsmart my trellises but I still love the jungle I get every summer. 😁

I planted small backyard gardens, Sacramento area, back in the late 70s, student years. Corn, greenbeans climbing the corn, onions, garlic. lots of tomatoes, cukes. and we trellised the cantaloupe on the back fence. Worked out well, used our daughter's cloth diapers as slings. Just a couple of city kids making it up as we went along (with some research). No gardens since '81. This year I did some pumpkins, Central Calif., Tulare Co., for the toddler grandkids, did fine, got 6 ranging from 4 to 30 lbs. I'll try again for the kids this year. They have a ball helping to water.

You had a pumkinpalooza going on in your yard in 2017! Watching video in 2022 I had some volunteer pumpkins come up near my compost bin from our composted fall/halloween pumpkin, I don't want to pull them out so I'm going to place a step ladder strung with rope over them similar to your trellis and see if I can get them to trellis up the ladder!

Thank you for your help. My first pumpkin planting did not work so I'm starting over. It is early August 2020 right now. Here in Hawaii we basically have sun all year round. So I will see.

Thanks for another great video, I couldn't believe how big your patch has gotten! Are you pretty much burying all the vines as you go? Could we also get an update on your pumpkins in a future video? :) looks like you've got some big ones.

Hey Sean, you're very welcome. It's crazy how fast they grow, isn't it? I'm actually only "burying" various parts of my vine by mounding a pile of garden soil and compost/manure mixture, about 10-12" wide and few inches high. I think each vine has about 2-4 of these extra mounds. Going to talk about fungicides and pesticides that I use on my pumpkin patch in an upcoming video, I can definitely take a little extra time to provide an update. Anything in particular you want to see?

Thanks for the reply. Other than the pumpkins themselves, the pesticides and fungicides sounds interesting. I wouldn't mind also seeing the parts of the vines that you've buried at some point if it's not too much trouble. Thanks!

I live on a tributary to Lake Michigan and have frequent high winds. Any suggestions on how to protect the vines. Love your video and very clear suggestions.

How do you keep away squash bugs from eating the main root. And do you flip all ur leaves over to see if they laid eggs

I had an issue with squash bugs two years ago. I used that diomataceous earth (idk how to spell it), just sprinkled it on the base of the plant. Re-applied after it rained and just went out and checked the leaves every couple days. The eggs are super tiny but very bright, just scrape em off. Hope this helps :)

Hi Kevin I am growing my pumpkin in a very large pot on the grass and on a large trellis up my backyard fence. I have only been successful in growing just one pumpkin on there this year and one last year. All the baby fruit keep dying. Is this because none of the trellis goes back down into the soil?

good vedio. i little worried got such big verities go up trellises. If was jack be little, pie punkin. or even basketball size jack lantern verities. tie bag around punkin and tie to trellises help hold up. anything get over 50 pounds. witch kind metioned if did all crazy thing big punkiness grow do could get 1,500 pounds or even more. i see vedioes stud tee pee with momterized witch to pick thing up just get in truck bed.

Thanks for the trellis ideas. One quick question. I saw you were using couple of oil lights or something like that. What's the purpose of those? What kind of lamps are those?

Hey @Hapayu Gardening I have a question.. i am growing some pumpkings in my balcony, like 10 plants or so.. but they all seem to make only male flowers... Can the plants making male flowers also make female flowers or should i just dump these, since they only make male flowers?

good stuff bro. love your info...wish u could help me with mine over here in Cali. question...why do you only have netting on one side of the trellis? wouldn't it be better to have both sides netted so the Pumpkins can grow on both sides and take up even less room?...

That’s not powdery mildew. It’s the way the leaf looks on that particular breed.

I do not since I'm not looking to collect the seeds. Also, my Connecticut Field pumpkins can't cross-pollinate with my Big Max and First Prize Hybrids. Connecticut Fields belong to the family of pumpkins called Cucurbita pepo, while my Big Max and First Prize Hybrids are Cucurbita maxima... and those two families can't cross-pollinate the other.
