Greeting's from Ireland, I have four shrubs in pots in the front garden two hebe's and two hardy fuschia's they all flower every summer come rain or shine. I use vine weevil nematode's every autumn to attack the grubs.

Just in the nick of time... I decided to transfer Boxwoods from the landscape to containers. I’ll be mixing in pine bark conditioner for better drainage. You rock, Justin!

Perfect timing, Justin! I emptied two of my pots yesterday and have several more that need to be changed out. I’m putting most of the plants I had in them in the landscape but have been thinking shrubs as replacements. Thanks for the pro tips! Soil conditioner is now on my shopping list! ~Cassandra Senter, Zone 9A

You spelled it out for us, thank you! I made the mistake of planting a gallon camellia japonica in a giant planter. I checked it after a heavy rainfall and it was waterlogged and the camellia ended up with root rot. I was so bummed.

Hey, great video and very helpful! Im researching how to and what are the best shrubs, trees, perennials to plant in containers. I want to start a Patio Garden sort of, so I can enjoy sitting outside. I want a couple of small trees, some shrubs and flowers but Im concerned about which type of pots are the best for that and will these plants be okay in the winter months? I dont have a covered patio and I cant bring these huge/heavy pots inside with small trees in them. So any information will be greatly appreciated 😊❤

Thank you! QUESTION: Do you have the name of the low profile evergreen that is used in planters, has a blue-green color, grows to hang over the edge and is VERY PRICKLY to touch? Decades ago I visited a pool (zone 9a) that had this beautiful, low profile,evergreen in a retaining planter. Dumb place for the plant ; at a pool edge scratching up bare legs. TODAY I see a need for it in my yard. Wondered if you might know suggestions. I enjoy your videos. They are fun and so helpful. Local nurseries where I am lie to you for the sale or outright act put-out that they are asked questions. H

I was all set to find the Gulf Stream Nandina until I read that it is highly toxic to animals. I'll need to keep searching, wish more people would note about safe for pets in the descriptions or talking about plants.

Tip 3.b Always use conical pots, avoid straight pots and never pots with a bulge in the middle because it’s nigh on impossible to get the plant out when you want to pot up.

Reasons You Don't Want Nandina in Your Yard Nandina is considered an invasive species in the United States. ... The berries can be toxic to birds and pets. ... Nandina offers few local ecosystem benefits. ... There are better native plant options. ... Once you have Nandina, it is hard to get rid of it!
@DottieWoods-um7ox
@DottieWoods-um7ox Год назад
No it is not. Nandinas mostly have shallow roots. Quite drought resistant. In extreme heat I did water them. I had river rock at the base which acted like a fertilizer so the plants did extremely well. I had a few varieties and enjoyed them. The birds know not to eat the berries which are wonderful in the winter time. I think every garden should try one out two to see how they look and perform. I am in a new home and not using them now as many neighbors already have in their landscape. I am going for a more classic boxwood, evergreen look. But I sure did enjoy my heavenly bamboo nandina’s which I had at the kitchen window. Enjoyed the birds nesting in the branches and the red berries in winter. Even a great plant for a large container like he showed in this video. My plants were mostly in corners where children could not get too.
