Loved that last hat catch, Love your energy, and the knowledge you give in each video. You make them interesting, easy to stay tuned, and take notes. Thanks, keep up the Great work !!! New subscriber
Love your channel- I have a large filtered light woodland garden I’m developing. I would love to see your take on woodland garden design. Shade loving accent trees, shrubs, flowering plants.
Love your videos! Several of these shrubs will look great on the north side of my home in W-S to replace hostas that were there for years. I had used yews in Atlanta at my front door under an arbor with camellias. Great tips.
I love your videos! It would be great to see a series on what to plant with the spreader yew plants. I have similar yews (they were here when I moved in and I want to freshen things up). I'm trying to figure out good combinations behind that front layer of yews. (I was thinking Mountain Fire Pieris directly under my front windows-- but not sure what to put in between the yew and Pieris!). Cheers!
I’d love if you did a video on when (time of year) you can expect to find various plants like this locally at nurseries. I always go shopping for plants at the wrong time of year I think.
You are terrific. I am in Connecticut and planning a landscaping overhaul for front of our home mostly shade but worse is our beautiful hungry deer. Any help will be so appreciated Justin!
We have an under ground spring marshy area in our yard so I could really use tips on shrubs/plants/trees that would make a good border around that area. Do you think an ornamental grass might help hide that area? Love your videos so much.
I would like you to do a video about how to prune and care for camellia shrubs to provide the most blooms. Thanks for this video! I'll be coming to buy some of the shrubs you introduced!
I purchased 3 lemony lace after this videi and they did not do well in the shade. I am in zone 7. I moved them to part shade/full sun and they did much better.
Those are great suggestions. Would any of those choices be good for erosion control and/or do you have shade suggestions that help combat erosion? Thank you
Excellent ℹ️ information 💯 love that vibe ❤ but I'm curious. What about hedge or privacy. Such as a Green Giant arborvitae. How do they grow? Fast, slow and how tall ? Please Justin..
We Mediterranean dwellers need to have a plant loving Mediterranean RU-vid Gardner person. I haven’t found one yet. I watch a lot of others though and learn a lot. Have to read a lot about plants.
What do you mean......"Michigan of ALL places"! That's where I live and you should see how well ALL hydrangeas do here!! I'm also about 15 miles from Walters Gardens - one of the leading labs & wholesale places in the US! Maybe we can't grow gardenias & jasmine - but please!! LOL
Need a video on plants suitable for a Living Screen -- HOA won't replace my shade trees they mismanaged-to-ruination. Won't allow any sunscreen nor umbrella. South + West are my most exposed sides of my house; we're suffering :( A living screen by hanging plants, or, trough-container-planted screening plants, having a cooling, shading effect. Fragrance and anti-mosquito action a bonus. Help? Zone 8b. ❤
Think it would be safe for me to plant any of these under my mature Magnolia tree? It’s pretty much shaded all day. I know it has shallow roots though so I wouldn’t want to damage the tree.
I live in area 7 and I am looking for some deer resistant evergreen that will grow into 10-12' tall and 5' wide. Emerald green arborvitae would fit this criteria but it is not deer resistant. I don't like laurels (too messy) or Japanese holly. Do you have any recommendations? Thanks.
I live in central florida with a north facing house. 4' out from the front of the house NEVER gets direct sun due to the overhang of the roof. Will Illicium grow in this constant shade? if not, then what will?
Uh oh. Did I make a mistake??? Just went to pProven Winner and on their website it listed Elderberry Lemony Lace as part sun to sun AND same thing on the rhythmic blue hydrangea as part sun to sun I am close you you in Zone 7a what could be the difference between their website and you stating shade??
In many areas they'll do just fine in full sun. Here in Zone 7B (Shelby, NC) I have found that they do a little better with afternoon shade. I've noticed some sun scorching on them when placed in full sun around the months of July and August.
I only have a very small area to plant shrubs, and it’s shaded most of the time. Would you recommend one of these over another for a small area. The area is only about 2.5 to 3 feet deep (front to back)
Hey Justin I need a fast growing plant to lightly screen (doesn’t have to be thick) from 3’ high to 5’ high. What would you suggest? I know it’s a wierd question but I accidentally removed the privacy From 3’-5’ when limbing up my 30’ Leyland Cyprus.
This was helpful as I was just looking at getting some shade scrubs. It would have been nice at the end if you did a recap at the end. Also leave the names up for longer. It was to fast to get it and the spelling.
Nothing is vole-proof. If your property has grubs, moles will tunnel in as they search for them as a food source. Then voles will use the mole tunnels to find their way to the roots of various plantings as a food source. One solution is to treat beds and lawn with fresh, granular milky spore as directed, which disperses into the soil, grubs ingest, and then it kills them off. No grubs = no mole tunnels = no voles.
You will need to dig the hole and line it with hardware wire or fine chicken mesh wire. Had to do that to keep digging predators out of enclosures containing vulnerable animals. Also for plants and bulbs being dug up by squirrels and rodents. Also if you have deer, put wire enclosures around your shrubs or trees. Deer are lazy and won’t do too much to challenge the barrier.
