I'm in western Canada and I leave my Star Jasmine in a container in the full sun...it does very well. I bring it into my heated garage(windows in doors south facing) for the winter months. It overwinters well...lots of blooms every spring thru summer.

I got a star jasmine plant in late summer, kept it inside in a pot over winter but I completely forgot to water it. I thought it was dead, but just to check I cut a bit into the stem - the thing was alive! After months of no water and little sun, it was still alive. Once I started taking care of it again it started growing like crazy. My only problem is that it drops its flowers pretty soon after they bloom - like a day or two after it unfurls it’s petals, they get brown and fall off. But I’m still super impressed at how hardy this thing is

Mine has been growing on a chain link fence at the entrance to my back yard. Planted in 1990's and still growing strong. It is a great screen from the neighbors yard, the flowers are heavenly smelling and the only thing I have ever done is amend the soil in the bed close to it and prune. There is a bird that nests underneath. I love this plant.

Planted one at the base of a 6 foot privacy fence. After 6-8 years it goes 10 feet one way and 20 feet the other way along the top of the fence. Unexpectedly, it has climbed up a Pine Tree; The vines and flowers has to go up about 30 feet at this point... It's all mostly in shade. Probably flowers a little less then the pics I see, but it looks beautiful now (April, May) in (Tampa) Florida. It makes a great backdrop behind the tropical plants in front of it.

We have quite literally tons of this plant in our yard. The 15 foot purgola out back is completely covered with it. I have to occasionally chop openings in the vine walls to enter the purgola every few seasons. It will really take over an area if not kept in check. It has a very liquidy, almost rubbery and sticky sap that flows quickly when cut. The flowers bloom from around early April through around June here in the Columbia SC area and is absolutely wonderfully fragrant. Though more than 20 feet from the porch I can still smell the flowers anywhere in the yard.. especially in the morning hours.

I just got mine 3 days ago as well and I'm excited but I am a bit worried about root rotting and what's the best container. I put rocks in the bottom of the container before putting the soil. Should I leave a plate at the bottom or let the water go directly on the ground? AND if there is a perfect sunny spot but ants, can ants kill a Jasmine plant?

THIS is my 3RD post here. I will be TODAY repotting my Jasmine vine aka "Confederate jasmine". I sure DO HOPE that my plans of just ":potting it up with some average potting soil", into a bigger pot, after untangling the old ROOTBALL, will be a good game plan for it. Well, really, since I have a BUNCH of soil additives that I've bought, I will be sure to add some of the stuff to the new soil in which my jasmine vine will be planted in. But, I know not to add some stuff that will change soil PH and anything like that. Since my last post, I have pruned my jasmine vine down to about 5-6 inches. I can already see a bud that has swollen up on one of the pruned back vines or branches. After I get the plant repotted, it will be much more vigorous, as it is NOW, the pot is just FULL of mostly old roots with most of the old soil having been worn away. So, although THIS plant HAS performed GREAT last year whilst being POTBOUND. NOW, I MUST repot it up. I mean, just "rip into" that old ROOTBALL. And, repot it, in a bigger pot, with more NEW potting soil. I do WISH that I COULD plant it in the ground here, BUT, when it is taken care of right, and like in MY AREA, it is kept warm enough in a greenhouse, THIS plant, ends up performing WONDERFULLY.

These things were growing like crazy up the side of the house, up the carport & up an outside bathroom pipe. The landlord who put them in must of been clueless telling me it would grow like a hedge instead of a climbing vine. Iam a begginer gardener so I just went ahead and hacked away at it lol. Like I really cut them all the way down to the point of looking like baby plants. Its the start of winter here, I hope they still grow flowers in summer.

Did learn something as I was actually looking to find out how to trans plant it from my front fence to what will be the new front fence (I am moving the front fence back to make a smaller area for the dogs to help control their barking when they see some one walking by). We can smell the Jasmine on the porch when it is fragrant which is close to 100 ft away. I love it and don't want to lose it but the fence has to be moved.

You have to train it up a trellis. It's not a true climber in that sense. If you don't, it'll just grow I whatever direction it can support it's own weight. I usually have to tie mine up.

Something happened to my beautiful English Ivy after growing it for the past 30 years on my 12ft high wall! It spanned 12-16ft wide!! As of right now it’s dying a slow death! It was the focal point of my backyard, lush, dark green and beautiful! Plus it soaked up the bright light reflecting off of the wall! My heart is broken!! Now I need to quickly replace with something else and I thought of star jasmine!! I think it will be a good replacement! And the fact that you say it grows fast is important to me! I’m 65 and don’t have time to start over with the ivy! I will barely live long enough to see it fully mature like the previous ivy! My question is will it attach itself to my stuccoed wall and vine up the wall? I’m sure I have to train it first with eye hooks and maybe some fishing line!! Does that sound right! A few tips would be appreciated!! This wall gets morning sun up until early afternoon! I live in Las Vegas, Nevada!! Hope to hear back! Cory from Las Vegas

It is quite a challenge here in Sarasota to find flowering plants that can that can tolerate the full sun. I have Hibiscus and Mandavilla which are beautiful but they are being eaten by an insect that I cant yet identify. I think it might be scale? I would love a video about difference between scale and mealy bugs and leaf miners. Thanks Jim for amazing video. I bought star jasmine about a month ago, it was blooming heavily and had wonderful scent. I repotted it, used good compost and sprinkled with fertilizer, water it regularly. It had good sun exposure, thanks to lovely summer this year. However, shortly after reporting, flowers started wilting and eventually all have fallen, some leaves are also turning yellow. I have read different advises, seem I’m doing everything right. What could be the reason and how can I revive it? Many thanks

Things will frequently stop blooming when replanted. The yellowing on old growth is usually no big deal. Yellowing on the new growth is frequently to much water.

Mr. Jim Putnam, my husband built a very hefty trellis for me in front of the outdoor fireplace rocks. Secured with wire. That to say, it's permanent. :) I planted my Star Jasmin plants in front of it to eventually climb up it. The holes I dug looked correct at the time, but now I am worried that the plants are too far away from the trellis. The vines at the backs of the plants are reaching the trellis, but I am really not sure if the distance between the main woody stalk of the plants and the trellis itself is too much. I am wondering if I should dig them up and re- position them a tad further back while they are still very recently planted. Currently the center stalks of the two plants are about 5.5 or 6 inches from the trellis. Do you think I should move them back a bit so that the main woody stalk of the plant is closer to the trellis? In this video yours look to be pretty much right at the trellis. Thank you for your advice if you see my post. :)
