Absolutely beautiful. What kind of trellis are you using? We would maybe plant one on our front wall. Usually they install one cable for plants to climb on. That is useful for a wine vine but is that sufficient for a star Jasmin?

My Trachelospermums have survived successive winters with temperatures down to -15C. Sometimes they will need a bit of protection for the first couple of years until they get established and become accustomed to the low temperatures. A lot of plants sold in the garden centres have been grown in cosseted in warm temperatures in order to make them look perfect in order to sell, but once planted out they get a huge shock to the system.

@GreenIslandGardensVideos oh wow that's so helpful to know! Mine was 2 years old when we had a really hard frost for a week so it sounds like it was because it was still young. I will keep it's winter jacket on for another few years and then brave the elements!

@GreenIslandGardensVideos
@GreenIslandGardensVideos 6 месяцев назад
Why would you want to add ivy to Trachelospermum? (I assume you mean trachelospermum when you say jasmine?) It would be too vigorous and out compete the trachelospermum. Trachelospermum alone on the trellis would make a perfect evergreen screen.

@@GreenIslandGardensVideos Thanks for the reply! Trachelospermum is not that winter hardy I read on internet, only a few degrees minus zero. So in case one day it will not survive an unexpected severe frost I will at least have some privacy left with the ivy and not an empty trelis ....

Hi there. Trachelospermum are often labelled as not fully hardy. However, mine have all survived winter temperatures of -15C in 2 successive winters. Usually we do not go much below -5C here but I do plant them against a house wall or in a sheltered spot. Often it is the combination of winter cold AND wet at the same time that is the killer, so inn a waterlogged position they would not survive much below -5C. Why not try it and take cuttings from it so that if it doesn't survive you have replacements ready? Good luck

Thank you for taking the time to watch our video. This answer really depends on where you are located, if in a more coastal southerly area, this should be fine. However, further up north with the winds being very cold, this will be a tricky task.

Star jasmine is a common name, not a latin one. The only plants that are Jasmines are those who's names start with Jasminum, so for example Jasminum officinalis, Jasminum nudiflorum etc. This is why it is best to use the Latin names as the common ones can be so confusing. A classic example of this is all sorts of plants who's common name includes the word 'Lily', and yet none of them are Lillies...so for example, Day Lily, Toad Lily, Arum Lily, Kaffir Lily, Pagoda Lily, etc. Hope this helps?

@@Tony-qx5mt the common name is like a “nickname”.. someone’s name is what they are christened. They may be given several nicknames over their lifespan but these are not the persons real name… same with plants and it is a good example of why the Latin names should be used and not the common names!
