I accidentally grew strawflowers for the first time this year. Apparently they were included in a packet of dill seeds, who knew. I do have a new appreciation for them!
Hii, i loooove your garden. I tried to grow them from seed 2yrs ago. It grow up to 15cm but then died :(. I live in tropical country, i'd love to grow lots of flowers types like yours. But got climate as challange, still curious tho. But at least i can see your garden n lots beautifull flowers trough your chnl. Thank you for share your beautifull garden. Hope u understand my english.😁
@@ag_p4007 tinggal di jogja, dulu germinasinya cuma pake gelas2 plastik es bekas. Aku tempatin di teras. Nyiramnya dulu pake bekas botol mineral yg aku lubangi itu jadi bijinya ga kemana2. (Tapi straw flowerku itu ga selamat sampe berbunga)Tapi kalo sekarang aku germinasi biji2 yg lain(petunia, torenia, dan baru minggu kemaren nyoba germinasi beberapa biji baru) aku pake cara yg di siram dari bawah. Torenia n petunia rekomendet bgt menurutku kalo tinggalnya di daerah kyak jogja.. Survive sampai berbunga banyak n berbiji lagi. Terutama torenia itu pas musim hujan panas kuat2 aja.
"like many of the flowers I grow here in my garden" *scene changes to cat* lol love it. Just sown my strawflowers yesterday. Looking forward to seeing it grow!
Beautiful flowers. This species breeds true-to-type? I mean, if we sow different coloured flowering plants together, and then collect seeds from each one and sow for next generation, will we get the same flower as the parent plant? Thanks!
Hi, just found your videos! i bought a giant white straw flower from an amish greenhouse and it already had buds that would be blooming soon, but all the blooms died off before they had a chance to grow more and bloom. the plant had root lock i believe. would that cause the plant to lose all of its blooms?
Sounds like they had filled out the pot with roots, the plant should have been cut back by a third, including open flowers and buds, and the next day the roots teased a bit and replanted into their final location in the garden or a bigger pot, and watered in. A year late, but I hope that helps in case you encounter that again. Will work for many annuals, but the process may be different for shrubs, trees and perennials! 👍👍🌱🌿🌾🌽🍆🍅🌹
You can get quite a few! I bought one plant of yellow at a nursery, potted it so it’s only 2 feet tall, but I ve gotten close to 20 flowers from one plant! Imagine if it was in the ground and taller! Easy it has been easy to deal with and a great producer. I pull most blooms and prepare for future dried arrangements. Strawflowers are a good cut flower investment!
Great video! I’m new to growing seeds under lights. I wanted to grow straw flowers and did put the seeds in trays under the lights. However I was concerned about I over planted them so they are crowded in there. This video has eased my mind greatly on the fact I did it right. Thank you 🙏
Thanks for the video, I'm trying them for the first time this year and mine germinated but they're not growing anymore.. they seem stuck at a very small stage. And a couple haven't made it. I am using seed starter and have grow lights on them inside my house. My tomatoes, peppers, marigolds, onion and carnations look wonderful but strawflower not so much. Any advice?
Depending upon your zone, it may be time to transplant them outside. They can handle frost and cold much better than other plants. This could be stalling their growth. Don't forget to harden them off, too. Good luck!
August may be a little early, I would wait until September of you're trying to overwinter them. I've never tried to get them to bloom in the fall. Good luck!
Hi, I started my strawflowers for the first time after watching your video. I did some research about this plant, and came across a lot of mix info that seems to oppose to each other. For example, some says this plant is very heat tolerant, and you mentioned in the comments section that it prefers cool temperature, and may die from the heat. Some says the seedlings are only good to go out when temperature is above 60, but it seems they did fine overwinter in your zone 6. I am a little confused after all these mixed info. I am in zone 8 central Texas, and right now I am not sure where to put these seedlings, for we have very hot summer. Would you recommend putting them in a little shade or full sun? Do you know how well can they handle the heat? Thanks a lot!
Hello, I'm in Arizona. Angela, from Growing in the Garden has an amazing garden here in Arizona. She also has a website and RU-vid channel. She explains 5 tips on how to grow Strawflowers here in the low desert of Arizona. They are heat tolerant. I hope this helps.
