On Kauai we get these pests that bore right into the vines of Kobocha Squash plants and kill it from the inside out. Yet I ran a test this year and was able to grow watermelons literally right next to the Kobocha Squash, to my surprise my watermelons grew just fine with 0 powdery mildew and no pest pressure while the squash vines got totally wrecked in no time only a few feet away. These Islands are especially hard to get good at growing stuff in because there's so many different micro climates that it's hard for one neighbors techniques to work for their friends on another part of the island. Basically everyone was stunned I grew watermelons with 0 forms of protection.
Those pests are larvae from a nocturnal moth. They lay eggs on the plant and they feed on young fruits and shoots mostly. If really bad, they annihilate the whole plant. They are called PICKLE WORMS. Worst pest for cucurbits.
😮 I plant em anytime😢 I've got pest👾 white flies on my pepper plants, the f×*,en slugs, hate the slugs🤬and now the kabocha gonna get some kine borer bug🥵.
