Tigger Melons are a smaller heirloom melon that grow up to 1lb. and fit nicely in the palm of your hand.
The white flesh gets sweeter in dry climates and the most fragrant melons we have tried.

I’m sorry sweetie ❤️. All our videos are progression videos so they can take a long time to create. We are working on several new videos to show all the things we are doing to bring the new homestead to life. All the projects are big. Nancy hasn’t even started to edit any yet but I have a few ready for her. We had to buy a new computer to handle the extremely large amount of data it takes for the new videos so she is still trying to get it up and running. When we get them ready I think you will agree it was worth the wait. All the videos will help folks plan their new homestead and give them some ideas. We look forward to sharing them with everyone. Next Spring will be here before you know it. This year is already half over!! Enjoy your garden this year. We still have a few more new videos from Virginia to share with you while we get set up down here in Florida. Thank you for loving us and your patience with us during this difficult transition period. Have a peaceful weekend

Thank you for the very instructive video! I was looking for information about growing similar melons, called "Kajari Melons". I learned these are a tropical fruit, that they like direct sun and VERY warm soil. I'm in Southern California, in a drier climate. The lady who sold the seeds told me that warm, rich soil that drains well is important. We have our hottest months here in August and September, so she recommended giving the plants some shade, or planting in early morning sun. I LOVE those trellises!!!! I think a bit of dark colored plastic on the soil would give your vines a boost -- you got a nice crop! Your soil looks terrific. Thank you for the information, and God Bless!

I would love if you talked a bit more about watering in your videos!
@HollisNancysHomestead
@HollisNancysHomestead 6 лет назад
Watering is different for everyone depending upon the conditions of your particular area. There is no generic schedule for watering. The best thing I can tell you is; water your plants to keep the soil moist not saturated. You want to do your watering in the early mornings so the ground has all day to dry out. Water the ground not the leaves. If your area is very hot, you may need to water twice per day and of course this depends on your soil conditions. Check you soil with your finger to see if it is moist. Dig down one shovel deep and check the soil moisture. Add water accordingly until you figure out what if the best watering schedule for your area

I’d LOVE to taste a tiger melon. Are they an Asian fruit? And is there a how-to on building the trellis? I didn’t plant a garden this year as my Hubz and I decided to take a month+ vacation and drive down from our home in Centralia WA to our home town, a suburb of New Orleans to visit family and friends as well as tend to some family business. I typically plant 3 raised beds. One is 4’x4’x1’ but the true diminution is 4’x4’x24” but the bottom 12” is the rise from the ground. The other 2 are 8’x4’x12” (8’x4’x24”). We’ve grown baby Broccoli, cauliflower, “coolapenos” (a not hot jalapeño), Japanese cucumbers, regular cucumbers, 4 varieties of tomatoes, kale, black berries, in strawberry pots, strawberries and pineberries. A pine berry is a white “strawberry” that tastes like a pineapple. We haven’t had much success with melons or pumpkins. Once we find and purchase our next home I will be making bigger and deeper raised beds to grow root based veggies like, carrots, beets etc. we’ll also be trying the bucket method for taters. I truly enjoy your videos. Your explanations are concise and you answer questions before one would ask! Thx! Blessings.

We didn’t save any seeds because we were moving. For your Tigers, stop watering them when they are about the size of a baseball so they will sweeten better. To harvest, simply check the ground in the mornings, they will drop off the vine when they are fully ripe👍

Hi! What is the average temperature/climate in your area while planting the melons? Just wondering if I can grow them in my area with average temperature of 18-20 degrees celcius

This video was created while we were living in Virginia (Zone 8A). Plant your melons when the average nighttime lows are above 65 degreesF. I usually plant them the same time I plant my cucumbers

Hollis and Nancy. I’ve commented a few times and you guys are so great at responding I was wondering if I could pick your brain’s. One of my cantaloupes fell off the vine this morning as I was checking the plant and I thought oh maybe it’s ripe. It had the crackling skin and it was like half yellow cream color however it was green on the top part near the Vine but it fell off on its own so that means it may be ready to eat so I cut it open and it looks beautiful orange flash with a slight green near the rind I took a bite into it it wasn’t sweet at all it was nice and moist but the flavor was disgusting. I’ve been watering normally it has good fertilizer was wondering if you guys could maybe tell me if you’ve had issues growing melons

When my melons get close to ripe I cut way back on the water for a sweeter melon

Hollis & Nancy's Homestead so maybe stop watering them every day? Like once a week?

Where do you buy these seeds? Could cantaloupe be grown this way as well?

Grew the Tiggers after watching your video a few months ago. They’re on a trellis and prolific! Problem! They are getting BIG - REALLY BIG and not turning orange. Couple are 1.5x the size of a softball! I moved some leaves back to it has more sun. Ideas!? I’m here in Colorado - zone 5 and it is hotter than hades everyday! Most days it’s at least 90 or hotter.

The temp sounds perfect for these plants. I'm on my first batch, with only flowers at the moment. I won't pick them when they turn orange until the vine starts looking brown and keep the soil on the dry side. I think people are picking them too early and not allowing the sweetness to develop. Possibly in your case, the size is related to the heat that the plant seems to like. Why worry, the plant seems okay? Mine are in 3 gallon containers and spread wider daily over an overhead horizontal bungee net on my deck. Hope you wait and get delicious melons this year.

Ive never heard of tiger melons, not something we see in Australia, they are tiny! What season are they most commonly harvested? They look delicious!!

They are a tasty personal melon. Plant them at the same time you normally plant your cucumbers. When they are ripe they will turn orange and drop off the vine. Just pick them up each morning.

Hollis & Nancy's Homestead thanks, I’ll now have to keep an eye out for some seeds for next spring!

If you're saving seeds are you worried about cross pollination with the two varieties planted so closely together?

If saving seeds separate your trellises 25 feet apart

What do you use for squash bugs. I can't handle chemicals but really hope you have some ideas. Keep losing mine squash and cuccumbers
