How To Grow Tomatoes Indoors | Indoor Gardening for Beginners
In this video we take a look at how to grow tomatoes indoors from seeds but not only that I also show you how to grow tomatoes indoors hydroponically. I show you how to start tomato seeds using rockwool and show you some of the indoor tomato plants that I have growing right now. I have been growing tomatoes indoors in mason jars and getting a pretty good harvest.

How often do the seeds get watered? Then how much water? How do they get transplanted to a pot? Is there anything else in the pot? I would love to know the in-between stages of the process! :)

Folgers Coffee containers double really well for kratky, I even used a few for a small dwc. The light doesn't get to the roots as easily and they are a decent enough size that the plants will like it and it won't take up too much space ☺️

Awesome! Yes, you can grow quite a bit indoors in an apartment. Don't forget about herbs and microgreens as those are pretty easy to do too.

@@MadameCasper I actually did start an indoor garden. I grew tomatoes and green peppers. I went with potting soil mix instead. I used my 5 gallon buckets. Drilled some holes in it to drain out. Put a catching tray under it. I used some old rectangular baking pans to catch the water. Got my grow lights. And went to growing. Yes it's a hassle to clean the catching tray. But worth the headache for the end process.

Newby here. I just started a small greenhouse in the garage, most of the stuff is growing in soil but we do have one of those small indoor hydro growers which didnt do so well. I liked your video showing how to start the seeds but I wonder if you have another one that shows the stages. This one seemed to go from planting the seeds and then right to some plants, What happens in between! LOL Thank you!!! Great job growing!!

This was such an awesome an inspirational video! I had no idea I could grow tomatoes so easily indoors. I live in arizona, and also in an apartment, so outside isn’t ideal for growing certain things. I’m totally going to give this a shot however. I have a spare room I could use as a growing room. #new

I am just about to start a little mini "closet" garden. looking at doing leafy green, carrots, broccoli, herbs and tomatoes. this video definitely gave me more confidence!! I have to figure out some sort of grow light because the only part of my apartment that I could grow "outside" is a north facing balcony that gets literally %0 direct sunlight. So as soon as I figure that out I'm going to start seeding! that mini greenhouse idea is kind of what I'm going for. I have two 24"x26"x7" clear plastic bins that I'm going to use. open side to open side and plant on the bottom one and have my light either cut into the top or right above the entire "greenhouse". however, I'm going to steal your mason jar hydro idea because I have a ton of those just sitting around. just subscribed and I'm about to hunt though your channel to see if you have a video on lights!

New viewer / Thank you for your video. I planted tomato seeds in January 2023 indoors using grow lights, and they have grown to 6-7ft with thin stems and lots of flowers. These are regular tomatoes not cherry tomatoes. How do you get thick stems so that they can support the fruits? I planted these tall tomato plants outdoors on May 27, 2023, just to see the results.

I'm very interested in growing beefsteak tomatos indoors, and I'm intending on ordering a specific set of deep water 5 gallon hydroponic system buckets w/ pumps, and I've found that, but I have no idea how stakes or trellis' will work, much less how to operate LED light(s) for the variations of growth phases.

gently shake the stemsor use and old battery operated toothbrush to vibrate stems. Most tomato plants are self pollinating varieties.

Dwain McWilliams I’ve learned a lot about tomatoes since asking the question about tomato pollination. I have plenty of tomatoes now. Never again will I use an electric tooth on them, I think it over pollinates and I had a fair amount of freak fruit with 3-4-5 of them stuck together like Siamese twins.

I do grow micro dwarf tomatoes indoors planted in potting mix in small pots. For now I have them in a plastic pot like what they call ping pong cups and they have really grown. I think they are ready to flower and fruit. I will be transplanting them into a 2 inch plastic pot and a 3.5 inch also 4 inch. I’m kinda of doing and experiment to see which of the small pots will actually flower and fruit best. I am such a compact person. I seem to like everything small that would occupy less space but being able to grow as many and to produce as many fruits as possible in small spaces. So, I’ve been buying a large number of micro dwarf tomato seeds and lots of different varieties to experiment each type. What I’d like to see are micro dwarf grown in small pots and actually see them flowering and fruiting.

I start all my tomatoes indoors and transplant mid May. I grow in raised beds. I grew a couple pepper plants in hydro (dwc) outdoors and I could not even get them to set flowers because of the high temps we had here in Ottawa 🇨🇦. I like hydro indoors but it just doesn't work outdoors (unless you're burying the reservoir, and some even add ice blocks throughout the day). The only upside of growing in hydro outdoors here is that you carry less a risk if your bringing plants in to overwinter of pests (but when I do overwinter I cut everything back, including roots and wash the soil off roots completely and repot in fresh soil (never have had any issues at all).

That's awesome that you start all your tomatoes indoors. I grew in some Kratky buckets last year and notice that they will do a lot better in morning sun and afternoon shade here.

If I'm intending on growing beefsteak tomatoes indoors with an LED hydroponic system, I'm assuming that I would need to go with a 5 gallon bucket setup. New to this. We live in a condo, no garden. We’re growing a few different veg hydroponically, and so far the cherry tomato plants are growing quite high and will soon be too big for our little hydroponic kit. Searching on how to keep them shorter or transplant them into soil or mason jars - this may be the way to go. It may also be difficult to separate the 3 tomato plants from the one pod. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. (Live in Canada and have west and north facing windows).

I got the shelf itself from Home Depot but you can get them on Amazon amzn.to/3DQUiri and the lights at Walmart originally but again you can get them on Amazon amzn.to/3EO4BgZ. I put 2 lights per shelf and it seems to work great.

You can start them in rockwool directly in the netcup in the mason jar if you want. I used Dyna Gro complete so it was easy to just mix according to the bottle and pour in. You can use whatever hydro nutrients you want.

I have 4 big beefsteak tomato plants in one 3 gallon pot with soul. They're huge, i feed them well. Do you have to pollinate the flowers to produce fruit? thats all ive been looking for on here lol, and no one mentions it. If you even have to do that. I just always thought the bees and other insects did that outside. Probably should just research it lol. Figured id try this, and if i get an answer. O also how much light do they need to start to fruit. I have them on about 16hrs of light. I was guessing go down to 12hours light 12 dark when fruiting. again ill have to look it up.

If you can't find rockwell wool , you can germinate seeds using paper towels. The author of this channel has a video on it "How to germinate seeds in the paper towel method"
