Thank you Khang Starr, for this video. Its the only one I've found that doesn't require the seeds to be soaked first, then rinsed and held for several days before planting. I mean, they are SEEDS, so I should be able to put them directly in soil and they should grow, right? Your process seems so much easier than what every body else is doing... and their directions for the soaking and rinsing, the way they describe it makes it seem like that is the ONLY way to propagate these seeds. I bought a bag of seed so I could grow some grass for my cat... she likes to eat grass daily and with it being winter, well...there is none right now so I figured I would grow it for her. So, thanks for the info and my cat thanks you too.

+Amy Ratcliffe You're welcome! Soaking the seeds first before planting is a good practice, but not required. I've done it both ways with same results.

Day 1 Plant the seeds and water them plenty, keep them in a dark place. Day 2 Keep them wet. Day 3 Onwards water twice a day.. morning and evening. Repeat the process untill 7 days by not exposing the grass to the direct light, keep it in the dark place. On the 8 day you can keep it near the window for some sunlight On 9th day it's ready..... Thanks dear friend for putting it all together so nicely.❤️

Hello again Khang. Merry Christmas. The reason why I asked you if my wheatgrass was diseased is because of the odor it's emitting. Since you said that the fungus gnats weren't really harmful I was thinking about cutting the grass and drinking the juice from it even though its only two and a half to 4 inches tall now. Is that not a good idea or what Khang?

@KhangStarr
@KhangStarr 8 лет назад
+Victoria Bennett Hi Victoria. You can get organic wheatgrass seeds on Amazon, GotSprouts.com, Sprouthouse.com. You can find trays there as well. Spray bottle is from Home Depot. Cut half an inch above the soil. Let them grow back and cut again a second time.
@ihaveyourmom1

+Victoria Bennett you can also go to a natural food store and get organic wheat berry hull grains from their bulk section and they will sprout as well. I would just ask if it is raw and not steamed first otherwise it won't sprout. But this is very cheap way to start small batches.

This is such a stupid question but I can't find the answer anywhere. Does wheatgrass go to seed if left uncut to grow more wheatgrass?
@DevonWayne
@DevonWayne 7 лет назад
That makes no sense? Do the green wheatgrass fibers convert back into seeds if left uncut? No.... They will stay alive, as green fibers, for a long while as long as watered properly. If you cut them near the white zone, you can regrow them a second time (white fibers re-grow to green fibers) as long as it's watered regularly. If you leave them to grow for a long time, it turns into tall yellow wheat i believe
@thehomeplatespecial597

I'm a newbie to wheatgrass. Don't have a juicer, do you get the same health benefits blending the shoots in say a nutribullet?
@ncastroclan
@ncastroclan 8 лет назад
+Crotchet A nutribullet will only blened in the blades with water and dilute it. The fiber is not very good to digest. If you really want the full potential of wheatgrass, you can get a juicer on amazon. They sell one called the Healthyjuicer for around $50
8 лет назад
+Crotchet I use a blender for my wheatgrass shots and i definitely notice the benefits. it may not have the exact same benefits but you will still get a lot of the good nutrients. I need the fiber you cant get from juicing so that's a plus when using a blender. You just have to make sure you strain it after blending (with equal part water). I use a mesh strainer or cheesecloth. People say you HAVE to juice it or its pointless but that is absurd. Its still super good for you regardless of how you extract the juice.
@amandaevans879
@amandaevans879 8 лет назад
Crotchet if you blend with a bit of water, pour it into a French press to separate juice from the fiber and you're good to go.
@dannitru4762
@dannitru4762 8 лет назад
You definitely don't need a juicer. i USED MY NINJA blender, added water, got just as good dark green, healty juice results as any juicer. And i could re process the pulp too. Nearly used up ALL of it, almost noting wasted.

I can juice them all and store them in the fridge but I heard from many people that will take the nutrients away.

@foswald56
@foswald56 9 лет назад
Thank you for your reply Khang Starr. I am growing outdoors on trays and the trays on top of the soil on the garden. Because of the temperature right now in San Diego, Ca 80-90 degrees, they are covered by shade cloth and a fan next to it, also the trays are protected by screens. I believe it has to do with the heat, too much heat. I've read somewhere they right temperature is between 65-75 F degrees? I like to grow them outdoors because of the indirect SUNlight and the soil, they do grow wider, darker green and good strong ones, comparing to those for sale that are either hydroponics or indoor growing, look thin skinny and not as dark green as those growing on soil, that is why I prefer to grow them outdoors. Any opinion, suggestion and/or advice will be greatly appreciated. Thank you again
@KhangStarr
@KhangStarr 9 лет назад
Frida Oswald You're right, growing them outdoor will make them much greener, wider, but much more compact since they get lots of lights. I purposely make mine taller by covering them away from lights for few days. Since it's so hot, try to reduce the amount of direct sunlight they get per day.
@foswald56

Too much water and high humidity will cause mold to grow. Use fresh seeds, dead seeds will promote mold. Last important thing is to have good air circulation. Try putting it next to a fan.

+Khang Starr than x at what stage just i put the fan on ?
@KhangStarr
@KhangStarr 8 лет назад
Gck Vegan I would say do it after the seeds sprouted, around day 3-4. If you notice mold that early, it's probably because your seeds are bad. A fan will help circulate air reducing humidity and prevent mold from growing. You don't have to turn it on max.

How do you avoid mold?

Can anyone tell me if mine is wrong? I let my growed my wheatgrass and right now its day 6 it has grown about 4-5 inches.. looks alright but my roots are yellow not white like yours. Also the top of the wheatgrass some of it is turning white.. i been giving them water with added stevia sugar, apple cidar vinegar a little bit of baking soda to avoid mold and a bit of natural sea salt. I usually give it 30 minute sunlight and put it back in a dark place.. I see lots of growing wheat grass videos but NONE of them explain how much sunlight it should be given. Or if its OK to give wheatgrass homemade fertilizers like I did with water, stevia etc.

Don't give it anything but water.

Mustafa Demiray thanks, what about sunlight?
@Demiray95m

I put mine into sunlight from the very start. Video recommends waiting until they grow a bit... but it doesn't really matter. I prefer them to be green from the start as they are more healthy.

That's crazy that they can be placed on top of each other! I have ruined 3 batches of Mung beans. I am finally figuring out that it is probably because I have been over crowding. Basically, they would sprout fine, but the bottom of my sprouting colander would have dark, moldy, rotten seeds that didn't sprout. Has anyone else experienced this? Am I on the right track, as far as over crowding?

Large beans do rot easily in warmer weather. Some try sprouting them in the refrigerator. I like this book for sprouting. www.amazon.com/Sprout-Garden-Mark-Mathew-Braunstein/dp/1570670730/ref=pd_sim_14_8?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=6YD8RKV9RAQY4D6BJC8W

@Khang Starr Soooo....I tried your method and simultaneously did ones in the light from the start. The ones where I used your instruction grew mold and didn't really grow much at all. The ones grown in the light grew very nice and green. Thought I would let you know leaving them in the dark didn't not work in my case. Light = healthy green faster fuller growth. Dark = moldy sparse time to buy more seeds to regrow wheatgrass in the light.

My wheatgrass does NOT look like that! Why? What causes wheatgrass to grow spindly and thin and turn yellow at the tips? Is it the the seed, or the medium or the water I use? I am so frustrated. I have already had to throw a whole 5 lb bag of seed to the birds. I just bought a second 5lb bag and I am on my first tray, 8th day and it does not look like yours. Please help somebody!

T Young Did you soak the seeds for 24 hours before planting? What container are you using, does it have holes? How much water are you giving the seeds each time? Wheat grass like moist soil, but not running wet. Also, what type of soil? I use organic potting mix from Home Depot. If your wheat grass is spindly and yellow at the tips, that means they have past their prime for cutting to juice and have lost much of their nutrient contents. Are they over 12 days when you see this?
@oolum
@oolum 9 лет назад
I soaked for 18+ hours and I am using wheatgrass trays. Two 10" with holes, inside a one 20" tray without holes. They are sold specifically for wheatgrass. Rinsed twice , 8 hours in between then saw little tail. Soaked coco coir, then spread the wheatgrass on top. covered with another wheatgrass tray as a lid. Water in morning and evening.
@KhangStarr
@KhangStarr 9 лет назад
T Young Coco coir is a soil amendment and contains no beneficial nutrients for the wheatgrass. After 5 days when the plants need to pull in nutrients to grow well, coco coir may not be a good option, unless you are feeding additional nutrients somehow. Without nutrients in the soil, the plants are pretty much malnourished and resulted in growing skinny with yellow tips. I would suggest trying soil and compare the difference.
@oolum
@oolum 9 лет назад
Thank you so much! I WILL try as you suggest. However I have also seen other videos with just coco coir mats and tap water. I don't want to use Arizona tap water with fluoride, chlorine, heavy calcium & lyme etc. I used distilled water and used Cocen liquid ionic trace minerals in the soak and rinse water though.
