Two weeks ago I watched the video and did like you said. And now I have about 5 plants that will be ready in 5 to 7 days to harvest and another dozen small ones. I'm absolutely amazed and blown away at this simple trick to pollinate the plants. Everyday I tickle the flowers. Eggplant parmesan soon! Thank you !
@@balconiagarden Ha! That would be something, could play them for the plants at night XD I must also report that since I've started taking a makeup brush to the eggplant flowers, I now have at least 5 new baby eggplants that have started growing in just the last week!
I have an indoor eggplants and lots of flowers been falling for weeks! I knew they needed bees but I was really upset that not even one flower will grow :( today I decided to Google it and here I am :) I'm definitely going to try that right away ... New follower 😊 and I'll come back with the good results I hope 🙏🏻
Love your accent . Thank you for an awesome informative video. I have a dozen beautiful eggplant plants loaded with flowers but not producing. I can't wait to try this out today and see what happens.
I loved every aspect of the video. Loved the music and.the subtle energy in your voice. And the process itself. Lived the information you provided with the proper terms. I have eggplants plants but I didn't know they are called aubergenes. 🙈 That's a very happy looking plant you have there. ❤️
Hi Deepti, thank you so much for your lovely words! 😍 I always love hearing feedback on my videos and what I can do to make them better for my audience. I'm glad you enjoyed the video and I hope it helps with your growing 😊
How do you remember which ones you polinated and which ones you didn't. More blooms pop up and I don't remember which ones I polinated already. Thank You So Much for Answering our Questions ❤
😂 I don't have a formula for that Vivian, if you can't remember I would just do it anyway, it won't damage the flower and then you're sure it's pollinated 😁
Do you cut leafs to give more air space, or the leafs are covering buds that aren't getting light? I have Fairytale Eggplant plants growing in the house, hydroponically in an AeroGarden.....@@balconiagarden
Something to add here after growing a new variety of eggplants this year, Graffiti eggplant. I didn't have to do any of the pollination assistance as with other eggplants, and the Graffiti is without question the most delicious eggplant variety my family has ever eaten. Would highly recommend trying this variety; highly productive, minimal attention, delicious taste and texture.
Wow, sounds like the ideal eggplant 🍆 😍 I'm glad you and your family got to enjoy then! I always love hearing about good varieties, will check it out and see if it's small enough for the balcony 😄
Yes, definitely check it out and see if if works for your space. “Listada de Gandia” (Solanum melongena) was the exact variety i planted. My mom found them being given away at her local library, of all places, and gave me a few. The package said 14” plants although I’d say mine was more like 36” for whatever reason.
Started gardening this year and have two eggplants that have grown to 5 feet tall in a matter of weeks. But after watching this video, I leaned since my garden is INSIDE my screened room, I have no bees to pollinate…. Just hit it with a q-tip. Wish me luck !!

Sounds like a great setup. Because the balcony is a small container garden, I always choose dwarf varieties of any plant I grow so I don't normally need to prune. I never needed to prune my eggplants but there are lots of good videos on how to do it 😊
Oh mine are dwarf too. Dwarf Fairytale Eggplant. It is hard to get to some of the blossoms there are so many giantic leaves covering the buds and blossoms. Have you see how giantic the leafs are? Wow!!! They cover everything!!! They are so low and smooshed down sandwiching everything and very compact. I saw and read it is OK to cut the leafs blocking sunlight to the lower blossoms, and also for air circulation. Thank you so much. Have a Wonderful Weekend ❤❤❤.@@balconiagarden
Hi Its a very informative video👍👌.. My brinjal plant has just started flowering, eager to see them into a fruit☺️… how mant times to do pollination in one flower? Thanks..Happy Garden ing🌴🌻🌷🌺🌳🌲
Hi Manisha glad you enjoyed the video 🙂 each flower will produce/become one eggplant but of course on one plant you will hopefully have lots of flowers and as a result lot of eggplants! Happy gardening to you too 💚
Hi Earl and welcome! I live in Cologne, Germany and the climate is temperate-oceanic. My balcony is a little micro climate and can get to around 40 degrees C in summer according to the thermometer 🙈 and then normal winter weather but still relatively warm. Wow must be hot in your garden!
Eggplants that are watered correctly will be overall healthy, strong stems and leaves and the flowers and fruit won't dry or shrivel up. Flowers also drop if they haven't been fertilised or are not receiving the right amount of full sun (at least 6 hours a day). I'd water 2x week deeply and allow your plants to dry out a little bit between watering. This will prevent root rot which eggplants can get if they're watered too much.
I used the cotton swab and now my petals have fallen off and it looks like the green part is swelling up and the stems are swelling as well & getting longer. I think I'll have a few little eggplants soon 😊. This is the first thing I've ever grown in my life
Hi Kona, that's great to hear! Growing plants especially edible ones is one of the most rewarding things we can do in this life 😍 I wish you lots of success in all your future plant growing 🙏🌷
Hi Wee, there are many reasons why eggplants don't flower or produce flower buds that then drop off before producing fruit. The main reasons are not enough sun and water and too nitrogen in the soil or the feed. Eggplants need at least 6 hours of sunlight a day (direct if possible) and alot of water so place your plant in a sunny position and water regularly. The nutrient nitrogen is good for luscious green foliage but not good for producing flowers and fruit so if your plant has big healthy leaves but no flowers, try upping the phosphorus levels (good for flowering) and reducing N. Hope that helps! 🙏
@@balconiagarden thank you so much for your reply! Deeply appreciated. I just have a single brinjal flower recently! Am thrilled! Tried hand pollinating it. Hope to have good news later! My chillies on the other hand, has many flowers but they don't bear fruits. Hahaha..
Hi Teresita, you're welcome 😊 yes I also have lots of houseplants and have made a few videos about them but I mainly make videos about what I grow on my balcony 🌷
That's true although if you live in a colder climate then you have to either overwinter the plants in pots (also if grown in the open soil you can dig them up and pot them up) or grow a new plant each year 🙂
Hi, I've never grown or hand-pollinated Mandeville or the other plants before so I'm not sure I'm afraid. You could do some research on the internet or just give it a go and see what happens! Good luck either way
Hi Robin, I've never grown honeydew melons before but as far as I know they have separate male and female flowers so you would need to take the pollen from the male flower and transfer it onto the female stigma. I always say "give it a try and see what happens!" Good luck :)
Hi Arundathi, it could be due to stress? To produce flowers and then fruit takes a lot of energy from the plant so it could be that the plant is reserving its energy for growing. Make sure you are watering regularly, the plant is receiving lots of full sun and the pot is big enough (if in a pot). Other thing is check are whether all the flowers are like that? Or could the flowers have ben damaged in any way?
I recently heard that there are separate male and female flowers in brinjal plant. In female flower ,there is male stamen and female stigma (green part)within the flower. In male flower, there is only stamen and not stigma(green part)
Hi Milansoni, I'm afraid I don't understand what you mean! To pollinate the flowers when they are in season, or flowering, it's as simple as I showed in the video 🙂
I've moved my aubergine to a position in the balcony where it gets full sun and it's loving it. 8-10 hours a day is ideal, just remember to water it thoroughly because they could lose their flowers if the plant becomes too dry.
@@balconiagarden well i actually live in northern India and it's dread hot up here so ...i doubt my plant would be able to bear that much for around 7-8 hours ...so would a green shade work ???
@@yashvardhandixit3289 wow that heat intensity must make gardening difficult sometimes. I would suggest 2 options; if you're planting your aubergine into the ground try to find a spot that allows for at least a few hours of full sun a day but that also becomes shaded throughout the day. To choose the best spot, try observing the movement of the sun and what parts of your growing space it reaches. Second option would be to plant your aubergine in a pot and move it around. That way you're more flexible and can control the sun/shade situation. Good luck and would love to hear how you get on!
@@balconiagarden well thanks a lot cause i guess this trick works for me ...as my plants have started to develop a couple of buds ....do you have an Instagram page or something like that so that i could share the images of my plant ?🙄if yes , it'd be nice 🙏
Hope you find a solution, I find the best way to garden is trial and error so give things a try! My Instagram is @living_plants thank you for sharing 😀
Hi joe, yes you can hand pollinate tomato flowers in the same way as toms have both female and male parts on the same flower. Try to do it around midday for the best results.
Hi Thet, make sure you give your plant lots of water, that contributes a lot to flower drop. Stand your plant in full sun as well, I noticed a huge difference in the growth of my eggplant when I moved it into full sun, it exploded with new growth. You can also fertilise it with an appropriate fertiliser. Hope that helps :)
