HOW TO: Handlebar Position | The Perfect Cockpit Set Up

Here is a basic step by step tutorial on how I set up my handler bar, brake lever, and grip positioning to achieve the perfect cockpit set up. (Shout out to my wife for filming this!)
Bonus Tip : Once you find your preferred set up and are comfortable, I would recommend marking the bar and lever positioning in a way that will allow you to find that setting again should you take your bike apart or need to change something out. I make small marks with a sharpie.

It’d be cool if you could do a part 2, Aaron. Stem, spacers, overall stack height. Thanks for this.
@dingusmagee3326
@dingusmagee3326 2 года назад
length spacers and stack height are all going to be personal to your body type, preferences, and frame and size of frame. this information would literally be useless to 99.9999999% of viewers

@@dingusmagee3326 bro, his personal setup in this video is also “personal preference” 🙄 but ok 👌

@@MILTONATOR he's providing general setup tips, and you're asking for precise measurements that will not translate to your setup whatsoever. sure the numbers might be interesting, but looking into them in great detail is a waste

I think it would be interesting to hear his process behind changing stack height, stem length, etc. I’m sure he it changes per track and conditions. We could all apply his processes of when and why change set up to our own bikes.
@roryswann6166
@roryswann6166 2 года назад
@@dingusmagee3326 In this video he’s talking about his process for setting up cockpit to achieve your own specific position. There is literally no difference if he did the same process of explanation but for a different aspect of fit/setup. All of the factors you mention as being problematic are irrelevant to both, as you follow his process which accounts for these factors (he even says that in the video). Durrrrr!

Aaron, this video was a game changer for me. ESPECIALLY the tip on handlebar roll and aligning it towards your head angle. I adjusted my bars, went out for a ride, and noticed an immediate difference. I felt way more stable over chunk, and my bunny hops were much more powerful. I also felt more centered over drops. Before, I would always lean forward a bit on drops. I think it's because my handlebars were rolled a bit more vertically. I can't believe how big of a difference this made.

@rinky_dinky 26 дней назад
Where do you align it in reference to the bar and head tube ? Lookin at the bike from the side . Am I looking to align the bar ends to be inline with the head tube ? Or am I suppose to align the rising part of the bar to the head tube ?

As others have said a video on what types of cross training you do would be nice. For me specifically what type of resistance training or body weight training do you do that helps you ride better. I know I was best at riding when I was physically strongest so it would be interesting to hear what specific lifts help you.

Sir, huge thanks for sharing your skill. Bars/grip shifters/brake levers are so crucial. I am dealing with a new setup and my left wrist is tweaking and getting impinged on the thumb wrist joint and mild pain. Never had issue but new build and now I have to dial it in. It is so nice of you to share these skill tips with all. YOu have giving back in ways you may not understand. If you make biking enjoyable or MORE enjoyable for one rider out there, then you are paying it forward ina big fashion and frankly being a good human.

Great job. Exactly how I’ve done it for… well, forever🤣. A buddy I ride with told me about how the frenchies are riding with their levers totally flat. My response; That’s great if you’re only going down 45 plus degree slopes and your butt is past the rear axle all day, but even DH runs have all sorts of variety. Great descriptions and explanations!

This was a bit of an eye opener for me, it's super important to have the most ergonomic way of doing anything you spend a lot of time doing. I'm a professional bass player, and a similar video dealing with the ergonomics of how you play got rid of tonnes of issues that reduced repetitive strain, increased manoeuvrability and control in general. The same idea of keeping your wrists straight for the most part is a huge game changer, it will eventually work it's way through your entire arm, through your fingers, up to your shoulders. With the amount of time we can all spend in the saddle these days, with ebikes and generally more places with uplifts, this should be fundamentally ingrained into all of us. Thanks for the video man!

Great explanation of how and why you set your bike up like you do! I've been riding for 20 something years and there were a couple things you mentioned I hadn't thought of before. Looking forward to experimenting and would like to hear your opinion on stack height. I personally have found that stack height can make a huge difference with your body position and staying centered.
