DO NOT USE THIS STUPID BLUE PUTTY!!! it will leave a spot behind on the wall and the poster. Trust me... I worked at a movie theater in high school and I had a ton of posters that I would rotate on the walls. the putty leaves behind a spot on the poster and on the wall.
Well explained, great lighting, and audio. Would be good to see what it looks like when you remove those various methods OFF the wall, when you are moving etc. I have a plastic/fabric poster, and didn't want to pay another 20$ for a poster hanging set.
Loctite mounting putty will leave greasy stains on your paint and greasy spots will also soak through your posters. Those Velcro strips might also damage your paint.
That blue funtak, loctite, whatever the brand will liberate grease over the year and will damage your poster. I prefer to frame my poster or buying poster made of fabric that I fix on the wall with strong neodymium magnets
I would suggest that anyone watching this video read ALL the comments here because there are some really important warnings. There aren't that many comments and they are very helpful if you want to protect your walls (some of these methods DO damage your walls) AND your posters.
This was better than I expected! You showed a lot of options! I thought that Command strips were my only option. I didn't even know about the Command CLIPS! [ETA: I want the best method to hang a large poster w/o damaging either the poster OR the wall! Does painter's tape not leave marks if left on the wall for years? And why did you specify "rare earth" magnets? Just any old magnet won't do?]
wow, I honestly had NO idea of HOW MANY great options there was. I just purchased a few posters for my man cave and this is a great video!!!!!!! Glad i didn't have to only use "frames"
The title says "How to Hang a Poster Without Damaging the Wall"....well I guess it depends what your definition is of damaging. Many of those 3M tapes without a doubt would pull the paint off, the nano tape I've used and that tape would likely not only pull off the paint but likely the drywall paper with it. While I don't argue these are techniques that work, but many if not most would damage the wall. I'd rather make a small nail hole and fill it than have to deal with damaged drywall paper. This video should be titled, "How to Hang a Poster and Damage the Wall"....just saying
Read the comments before using these methods. There are problems with the blue putty leaving greasy marks on the wall and on the posters, and apparently the nanotape WILL remove paint from the walls. Read the comments!
I can't damage the walls because I rent and I may want to move out some day & want to get my deposit back. I was specifically told not to use tape or nails on the walls, so I bought Command hooks to hang my curtain rods and tiny Command hooks to string up my Christmas lights. If you own a house & don't give a shit about the walls, do what you want.
Also, I care about the POSTER, too. I've got a brand new beautiful poster and I haven't been able to put up a poster in the last 17 years. I know from experience that tape, adhesives, tacks or pins can ruin the corners of posters so I came looking for vids about it. Unfortunately all the vids seem to just be about protecting the WALLS.
I just want to know if it take it off to put the poster away would it rip the part on the back or not? since my poster has two sides just incase I wanna change it to the other side
I like the spring clips (never knew about them!), but I'm concerned about them bending the poster and leaving impressions from the clips all across the top of the poster. Does anyone have suggestions for how to prevent that?
You really have no idea man. That putty does damage your posters and only after one year you will see patches of oil creeping through the card/paper. I suggest that you remove this video ASAP. Do some research before posting. It may not be an issue for a kids stuff or room, yet family photos, that's a no do.
Thanks cause I live in a new place and there rule is no poster damage wall so why not still hang and not destroy " I mean when there's a Will there's a able." Thanks again can't wait to go shopping.
Ouch!! Correction please. There is no such thing called 3M Velcro strips. 3M Brand and Velcro Brand offer similar types of removeable fastener products for a variety of picture mounting/hanging applications. 3M offers the Command Brand product, while Velcro Brand fasteners offer their HANG-ables Brand removeable fastener product. If you're going to endorse or recommend a product, might I suggest you use and reference the brand correctly.
One I wanna know is, will the adhesives loose their stickiness over time? For example: say I hung up a poster on my wall with sticky tac. Will the poster fall off after 3+ years?
Thanks. I had to go back and check because you kept saying 3M, it’s Command brand. I just wanted to make sure I got the right brand when I go to the store.
After 4 years of having this same brand of blue sticky tack on the wall, it leaves a blue oil residue on the wall. Luckily I was able to get it mostly off with a paper towel soaked in warm water, and a somewhat gentle touch (as to not remove the paint on the wall.) Just saying, that doesn't 100% work.
Try using alcohol. My command strips all have instructions that say to clean the wall w/ rubbing alcohol and let it dry before applying the strips, so if it helps remove whatever might cause the strips to not adhere properly, it might also remove any oily residue (unless it's penetrated below the surface). It's worth a try.
Read the comments! They are full of warnings. I think the only foolproof method for not damaging the wall OR the poster is the paper clip & magnet solution.
Using painter's tape never occurred to me. That doesn't damage the wall if left on it a long time? I have hellsa paper clips & I liked the idea of using magnets to hold up the poster. I know that tape, adhesives, pins, or tacks can destroy the corners of posters. I have a brand new beautiful poster about bats in Ohio that I want to mount without damaging it. Why a "rare earth" magnet?
