In this tutorial, I'll guide you through the process of hanging the ANTHOLOGY CORAL WALLPAPER ALABASTER 111917 (also known as eree110764). This wallpaper features a Half Drop pattern, and I'll walk you through the steps to achieve a seamless application. However, I must caution you that this particular color variation can be challenging to work with. The matching process may be difficult due to its subtle hues, cutting through the peal beads can pose a challenge with a blade and also shears and it's crucial to thoroughly read and follow the provided instructions.

Nightmare! I’ve recently hung a top end graham and brown one. 🙈I pasted the paper and it was a lot better. Those beads are a nightmare tho they get everywhere. You have to work absolutely spotless. Or you are in trouble. Hung a romo paper with beads on last year and that was probably the best paper I’ve ever hung. Hardly no beads came off the quality of the paper was amazing.

Having worked with this type of papers over the years I found that the reason they say paste the paper and let it soak is because it make the paper easier to handle and it makes cutting easier. They put instructions on the label for a reason. I have learnt from my mistakes over the last 48 years in the trade.

I think it’s swings and roundabouts ! …. Let it soak so it’s more pliable , yes, but as for cutting, don’t think you’d be using a knife and straight edge , and them glass beads don’t half knacker the scissors !!

Did you run a datum line horizontally across the wall?... I caught something about using your level to get a horizontal line? Good explaination of the drop pattern, its not easily explained, especially when you cant see the pattern. Re pricing, no I dont charge more per roll, I am supposed to be the pro, thus I should be able to hang anything (maybe!)...but I will explain to the customer that its a complex paper and will take a fair bit longer, hence the higher price. What I never do is base my price on the 'if they can afford that much on a paper they can afford this much for my labour' model. What was your verdict on the paste?.... I have found the Wickes gear to be thinner recently....maybe they are getting greedy too... it'll be 4.5 and 9kg tubs next!

I never use thinned out paste, usually beeline primer sealer. Fibreliner seems to have more of a lustre than lining paper so I’m wondering if I need to size at all although my no.1 rule when papering is ‘ALWAYS follow the instructions!’

I would size for it if it were going onto a traditional liner but not going onto wallrock. If you want to assure yourself you could use a coat of beeline but if you so you might need to glance over it with a bit of light scratch as the beeline will swell the fibres of the wallrock and when its dry its a bit rough to the touch. As long as you dont seal it with Gardz you will be fine.

Hiya Phil, I wonder if this is what we used to call a ‘step’pattern? Can you remember the brick-faced papers in the 80s? They looked dead easy until you came to join. When I was an apprentice 82-85 I used to cut and paste for the fella I learned off. He wanted no less than 30 lengths on the table, and at least four soaking at all times. Serious bollocking if not. I did not stand still! I can’t do that these days unless it’s lining. I tend to cut as I go.

I’m asking the other guy why he wouldn’t use Gardz on wallrock as a size. It’s been a three way conversation.
@Da-Paperer
@Da-Paperer Месяц назад
There are a few reasons Chris the one concerning you most is your Colefax and Fowler Stria is a vinyl faced paper. The moisture in the paste has to go towards the wall to dry. If you use Gardz moisture will be trapped between two highly moisture proof surfaces which leads to loss of paste adhesion, it can spoil and mold could form. Its more complex than that but that's the bare bones of it.

Always said painting & decorating are two completely different trades,as much as carpentry & painting for example, i have hung harlequin before, not cheap i know, tbh phil i paste the wall with every paper now regardless of it saying otherwise paste the paper etc, never had any problems & been so much easier, i return to most properties too & always inspect after, know it goes against your beliefs especially being out of college etc but some papers no matter what you do fight you all the way, you are sometimes working with faulty products & your Laura Ashley etc have never hung a wallpaper in there life, i remember painters having a nightmare as you could use any paste back in the day but there was problems with her papers so she came up with her specific paste for her papers & instructions as cover that were as long as your arm, think she paid out thousands in compensation ? While im here Anaglypta ready mixed is good & use all the time, you get 10L for around £15 always thin a bit as spreads so much better as really thick, my next wallpaper job is for a well known person at a £185 a roll, no pressure, tbh i don't worry anymore I'm too old for all that shit & just get on with it & do the same method as I'm doing for a wallpaper that costs a tenner, i remember doing the glitter wallpaper, this was only meant for Pelmets originally & not a wallpaper & you had to overlap like wide vinyl & use special black Stanley's, to cut, you only get one chance to cut these & I'm glad that trend has come & gone ,think the painting game is the only trade where the goal posts are moving all the time👍ps just run a damp sponge over the paper as I've done previously with papers like cardboard to manipulate into corners etc 😉
@ProfessionalPainterDecorator
@ProfessionalPainterDecorator 2 месяца назад
You paste the wall all the time.. even with paste the paper?
@TheWESTSIDE1967
@TheWESTSIDE1967 2 месяца назад
@@ProfessionalPainterDecorator yeh course, i use a thinned down paste that im using to seal first otherwise it just absorbs what's on paper & dries, Always seal walls goes without saying I'm talking about the paste the wall or paste the paper instead method, I'm finding most papers now are paste the wall but what I'm saying is even if it's paste the paper i don't, only lightly sponge over as suggested if like cardboard & easier to press into corners etc, but i seal once then when dry i go again just using a purdy 12 inch roller doing roughly 3 widths hang 2 drops then roll again, stopped pasting the paper even if it says to, your more likely to get shrinkage, even if you let soak, sometimes the papers are so fragile that they tear too easily, plus you risk the print coming off in some cases, & i now use surgical gloves with some as so delicate to handle & pick up fingerprints etc
@ProfessionalPainterDecorator
@ProfessionalPainterDecorator 2 месяца назад
and I always say work smarter.. not harder lol You're making hard work of wallpapering. You don't need to seal the surface before walppapering if you've lined it though. (Colfax and Fowler say to seal with paste over the lining.. I'd never do that again, it reduces slip and makes it hard to move paper around.... I'd use Gardz or BeeLine Primer sealer instead of thinned down paste for it) F&B wallpaper is still past ethe paper ... with a 10minute soaking time... because it expands. How you getting around that?
@Da-Paperer
@Da-Paperer 2 месяца назад
@@ProfessionalPainterDecorator You can expand any type of pulp paper by wetting the back of the paper with a sponge and then after folding and rolling it you place it inside a plastic rubbish type bag for the amount of time you need for full expansion. A lot of high end wallcovering companies recommend sizing the liner and letting it dry before hanging the paper as it draws the moisture in the paste inwards towards the wall and away from the decorative face of the paper so there's less chance of staining on the face of the paper and you also get a higher initial tack of the seam areas to prevent shrinkage. If you want to work smarter not harder hanging beaded wallpapers you might consider updating your hand tools and you will be amazed how easy hanging these type of papers really is.
@TheWESTSIDE1967
@TheWESTSIDE1967 2 месяца назад
@@ProfessionalPainterDecorator for one i never liked lining & very rare you get a paper that don't cover imperfections on walls, i did previously & sometimes the lining can bubble up & not go back, time for syringe or hot iron to reactivate paste on scrap bit of paper, F&B Harlequin, Graham & Brown whoever it is i just throw the instructions in the bin as a chippy does with self assembly instructions 🤣, i use to read em & follow every thing they said, but sometimes it didn't matter what you did you was using a faulty product, like I've never understood the black or dark papers having a white or cream backing & it showing no matter how perfect butting up the paper, hence the reason stickers have the get out of jail pens & pencils in multiple colours, not harder work as i save on not lining, although I'm old skooL that s an old way of doing things & in my opinion 99% of the time not necessary, they all say let soak it expands then once hung it shrinks back & you have the problem with gaps sometimes,with pasting the wall it don't get a chance as it's butted up & dries before getting a chance to, i can honestly say i have had no problems since & less bloody stress

Looks like amateur hour tbh with the rolling out of paper onto the floor to find the pattern and shuffling and bumping the pattern up and down the wall from the middle to match it up. Make life easy for yourself put your paper on the table. Look for a distinctive part of your pattern to use at your ceiling line on sheet 1. Mark it and measure 64cm down from that and mark that also. Now measure between those marks and the pattern repeat at 32cm is your pattern to use at the ceiling line on sheet 2. Cut your sheets accordingly allowing exactly the same amount of waste at the top of each sheet (say 5cm) and back roll your paper and put a rubber band around each sheet. Take your first sheet to the wall and place it in position at the ceiling line and smooth into place and unrolling your sheet proceed down the wall. With your next sheet do the same, here when you position your second sheet into place at the ceiling line make sure the amount of waste returning onto the ceiling is the exact same amount as the first sheet and the paper will be perfectly matched on the wall without having to shuffle and bump your paper up and down the wall.
