Wow, that's cool. We just started two dwarf Cavendish banana trees about 18 months ago. We need to try this at the end of the year. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for sharing this! We recently moved to PuertoRico and it seems like such a waste to chop down the whole tree. Great to have these options! 👍🏻

I harvest my bananas as they ripen on the plant. But I going to cut the stalk down and then the stem and try this. It looks like a perfect substitute for potatoes.

@ecuadorhomestead6245 3 года назад
It's okay to eat, but I wouldn't consider it for a substitute for potatoes. It is a little stringy so we usually feed it to our chickens. I mainly think it's a good thing to know if for some reason that is all you have, it that case you will probably eat almost anything.

Question: when would you harvest banana stem? I would think that is more valuable as a banana tree producing fruit. Is there a point where the banana tree doesn't produce a harvest?
@ecuadorhomestead6245
@ecuadorhomestead6245 3 года назад
Yes, I banana only fruits once and then it dies. We like to harvest the banana stem after harvesting the bananas
@ud8329
@ud8329 2 года назад
@@ecuadorhomestead6245 that's perfect infact the tree become useless after harvesting and if left to die on its own causes other new growth to retard as it's uses nutrients and water just to complete it's remaining life before it's going to die anyway
