You can grow wheat in your backyard. Honestly. It's a thing. And if you grow it you need to know how to get the grains out of it.
I grow a 15' X 2' area which gets me almost 1 lb of wheat berries (which translates to 1 lb of flour). 1 lb of flour = 3.5 cups of flour.
When I bake bread I only use 1/4 - 1/2 a cup of whole wheat flour so my 3.5 cup haul lasts a surprisingly long time.
Growing wheat is easy. You stick the seed in the ground and wait for it to grow. But what to do with it once it's grown is a bit trickier.
Here's how to harvest, thresh and winnow wheat on a small scale.
