I am 82yrs. and I have come down with Parkinson’s and I am not able to do anything anymore. I no longer drive so I just call myself handicapped and I have a hard time finding a new way of getting out of my house to help others. I can no longer do anything anymore but I still have a husband who is always a good person and I love him unconditionally and thank God for him every day. He is my own St. Joseph. I have friends who are in the same boat as I am so when you start speaking of doing things for God please pray for all of us who can no longer go out and do what we used todo.

Hello! I am 75 years young. And 28 years ago I was diagnosed with sensory motor peripheral neuropathy. In 2000 this forced me to stop driving. Now on my 5th wheelchair. I am grateful for the chairs and my aide, with me 5 years. I dislike it too when podcasters talk about doing for others, as in Mt. 25. What can we with disabilities Do. There were two reasons why I became a Catholic in 1984: the Fact of the Real Presence of Jesus via transubstantiation in the Eucharist, and the concept of "offering up" my suffering to God, as in Col 1.24. Maybe you would find helpful St John Paul II's encyclical on suffering. Wherever I am, whether in a chair or bed, I can pray 🙏 for conversions and salvations of the many who don't know our Lord Jesus. Suffering isn't easy at all, but it can be redemptive for ourselves and for others. Dear lady, stay close to the Wounded Heart of Jesus. Holy Mother Mary, please help your daughter dealing with Parkinson's. Amen. So be it. 🕊️

wow, that's a good one. Love His family, His big family!! have heard this so many times but never like this. Getting to know others, those we dodge but are His children! This is really uplifting. The only problem is deciphering who God wants me to get to know and having boundaries. Its an art in itself. Thanks Fr. Columba

One thing I've noticed is that the feeling of the spirit being adored, the feeling of the Hail Mary versus the Glory Be, is different.

Outstanding. It's not some narcissistic "crisis of faith" after all. It's simply that I've forgotten to make an effort in the name of - and following the example of - the great man. I can correct that.

WOW! How effortless is everything you said Father, you are a natural. I really appreciate you, I’m writing a book in spirituality and yea it’s from the Catholic point of view because is what I am, but I don’t want to mention it because I want everyone to relate and the word Catholic awake prejudices ( though I will mention it at the end), now I consider myself a person who has a relationship with Jesus, as amazing or strange it sounds when I say it, and one of the things that did happen when I really reconverted it was the clarity that this had to happen, that I couldn’t continue with my spiritual life without this relationship, now how do I know that is all in my head as someone told me once, so I answered- because it works, I have a feedback, and also because I am transforming and I transform all the time- be with Jesus is a process never ends, and He made me understand Sin, and it blows my mind that I understand sin in a way so deep that I am horror to a physical level, I reject it without being judgmental at all, it has become so organic that when I am in places where there’s a lot of sin I get nauseous. I was very sinful in my modern life in my youth and I am still a sinner but I believe not so much because of this understanding and I wish everyone that understanding, but that was Jesus in my life and the most amazing thing is that I stopped doing things I did without any effort of my part, and I don’t miss it, and that shows that I have divine intervention. You know as it’s well known that AA always relay in prayer and the reason is because the most of the time that addicts want to leave an addiction by themselves they fall again and many times because is Fl hard as Jagger says “ old habits die hard”, but when you put yourself in God hands and ask for help you will be successful because now you involve God in your business and He will not let you down. I’m a big movie fan and I cannot watch movies any longer that are normalizing sin and if I try to make a point that is not me I just end up clicking forward and then it’s not more fun anymore, I lost that interest, I was a big shopper, I like beautiful things and I can buy them but in the last years I go to a shopping mall or plaza or stores that I used to enjoy that a lot but now I look at things and I lost the joy to buy things I don’t need, it is amazing, but that is because what Father Columba said, you are transformed whitin and not only that, that your transformation is effortless and pain free because now you understand things more deeply, the why is bad, why is a sin, and it goes more profound that the simple explanation that “ sin offends God” it is just we are not created to sin, sin is an anomaly to our spiritual nature, simple like that so while we sin we are not complete and we are broken we cannot be a whole.

“Love is never having to say your sorry”. I see what Fr Columba says, but I also see the meaning of the mug. I think the mug it getting at: TRUE TRUE love, the Love God calls us too, the love Jesus showed us, the love we are called to imitate. Life giving, self sacrificial, denying oneself, no earthly attachments, the perfect love that one does FOR the sake of God, not for selfishness or self love. Perfect Charity. ♥️ And yes, we are fallen and won’t love perfectly that’s why we must say sorry. But we’re called to perfection and perfect charity, to strive for it, and with Gods Grace-achieve it. I think the mug is referring to that love. 😬♥️ ….I’m sorry if I’m wrong…

That’s beautiful insight! I’m not sure if a secular mug would intentionally hold that kind of depth, but we can certainly apply that meaning to it if we wish. Lovely thought!

How do you do an examination of the conscience without feeling hopeless and discouraged? When would be the best time do those in the day?
@ctmcatholic
@ctmcatholic 2 года назад
Remember that God’s love for you is endless, and so is his forgiveness. Maybe pray with Psalm 91 when you get a chance. If you ever pray compline (night prayer in The Liturgy of the Hours) there is a short examination of conscience every night. Just before bed is the perfect time to recollect your failings (and blessings) of the day.
@IONov990

@@ctmcatholic Yikes. How do you sleep well after thinking of your sins of the day? I guess it's better than starting your day remembering all the sins from the previous day.

@@IONov990 I suppose it’s only briefly and then you’re giving them to God and saying sorry for them (though not replacing actual forgiveness in Confession of course) - a good way to close the day I think!

@@IONov990 hey a good thing to do is pray the Prayer for the forgiveness of daily neglects. When I remember I pray it soon before going to sleep, and pray it without rushing it. Here is the prayer: Eternal Father, I offer the Sacred Heart of Jesus with all its love, all its sufferings, and all its merits: First: to expiate all the sins I have committed this day and during all my life. (Glory Be….) Second: to purify the good I have done badly this day and during all my life. (Glory Be….) Third: to supply for the good I ought to have done and I have neglected this day and during all my life. (Glory Be….) And also I found this prayer when looking for it. O Sacred Heart of Jesus, I Place My trust in Thee O Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place my trust in Thee. Whatever may befall me, Lord, though dark the hour may be; In all my woes, in all my joys, though nought but grief I see, O Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place my trust in Thee. When those I loved have passed away, and I am sore distressed, 0 Sacred Heart of Jesus, I fly to Thee for rest. In all my trials, great or small, my confidence shall be unshaken as I cry, dear Lord, I place my trust in Thee. This is my one sweet prayer, dear Lord, my faith, my trust, my love, but most of all in that last hour, when death points up above, O sweet Saviour, may Thy face smile on my soul all free. Oh may I cry with rapturous love, I’ve placed my trust in Thee. Amen

I used to feel a deep connection with God, went to Mass everyday, prayed the rosary everyday, learned as much as I could, talked to people about God, did charity work. These days though, I think it wouldn't make much difference if I had God in my life or not. I went through depression a couple of times in my life, the guilt I felt because of my sins made it worse. I struggle with some of the beliefs we have, I see judgment prevalent in our church. I wonder if we are really doing any good in the world. I see loving people who live mostly secular lives, and they have no judgment and bring so much joy to the world. I prayed today, but like many times before. I don't think He's going to answer.

Angeline, thank you so much for your comment. We are so sorry to hear about your struggles with prayer, but please know you are not alone! Prayer can sometimes feel like an uphill battle - the two greatest obstacles to prayer are ourselves and Satan Himself. Praying is the last thing Satan wants us to do, because he knows of its benefits, he knows how it helps us get heart to heart with his greatest enemy and our greatest ally - the God who made us. I cannot encourage you enough to keep at it; when prayer is at its toughest, that's when the reward on the other side of perseverance is at its greatest! It is so great you can see the good in people who live secular lives - indeed many of my friends are secular and I love them dearly. But I can't help but wish they too would know the love of God - for their own sakes. Because I love them so deeply, I want the best for them. And my deepest belief, confirmed by faith and reason, is that a life close to God in the Catholic Church is the best life we are capable of on this earth. If you are interested, we have a wonderful interview with Fr Mike Schmitz all about prayer. You may find it helpful, and I recently split it up into chapters so you can flick around to the topics that speak the most to you if you don't want to watch the full thing. You might find the chapter "Dealing with Dryness" at 35:18 particularly helpful. Here's the link: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ThuUE2Ra0IE.html I'd love to know how you get on, and please don't hesitate to get in touch at any time. God bless you x

The fact that you keep trying makes me believe that God is working in your life. I used to think the same about other people who don't pray as well and they look like they have a great life. The truth is we don't know if that is true. Keep pushing! Keep praying! Don't look at others and what they do or don't do. God has this! He has his Church as well! Focus on YOU! And what you do and can change. Give what you can't to God. Look to the sorrowful mysteries that's how much Jesus loves us. Remember He would have changed nothing if there was just one person on this earth! That is how deep His love is!! I'll pray for you. Please pray for me!!

@@ctmcatholicit’s been two years now and I thought it might still be good to write an update because I had forgotten I wrote this comment. Thank you for your response, it was very encouraging at the time and I needed all the encouragement I could get. Things got worse before they got better and I’m at a point wherein I feel like I have matured more spiritually. The biggest lessons I learned during that time was on just exercising my faith and growing in deeper trust and *surrender*. i had been so focused and what I was doing wrong I had forgotten He was greater. I’m still internalizing this (Surrender Novena and the Litany of Trust is helpful). Also to trust that God is for you and that He actually does like you. I realized a little of my fears came from feeling like I was only a tolerated burden in danger of being abandoned at any moment. I’ve had some mental health help with this too. I’m very grateful for the graces and the love He continually pours onto me and I hope it for everyone. I hope this helps. God bless
