This is a glitch, but if you like Lone Wanderer perk and Dogmeat, you can use the welding goggles or the bandana that spawn in the house at 9:18 to equip to Dogmeat and increase his carry capacity above 100. Dogmeat is never supposed to have more than about 40 carry capacity but equipping him with any armor will allow you to go above 100 while still maintaining the Lone Wanderer benefits. In Survival mode, this is a godsend.

I never seen that buried chest or knew about the one in the lake. Here's another bit of advice. You need to trade 3 fusion cores to get inside Vault 81. The vendor there sells cool stuff. After you grab the fusion core in the mole rat cave, you can get your second fusion care in museum of freedom, and your third fusion car at starlight drive in settlement, it's sitting on a shelf in the back room of the giant theater screen wall. All these locations are pretty close.

A little bit of cheating, if you never enter the mole rat den below Red Rocket, the streamer trunk near water tower will always spawn new loot after you leave the area. Weapon or amour inside always have mod leveled with you. For survival, glowing fungus in front of the den entrance also respawn along with other loot like oil can

This helped me more than you know. Thank you, brother. Unfortunately my console broke so I can't play anything for the foreseeable future but for now I can live vicariously through you and pick up tips for when I am able to play again.

Some extra advice: unless you are on survival mode, I recommend you grab everything in vault 111 and around the outside of it. Yes, even the junk. Then before heading over to sanctuary, make a go out the left gate and follow the trail to a hill with a little tent and table set up overlooking the vault. There will be a purified water and two dirty waters. Then go to sanctuary and scrap all your junk, clean out the bugs, and cook all the raw meat you collected for some quick starter items

That control room for the vault elevator always has a Nuka Cola in the corner. It’s great because in survival it resets some of your sleep meter. Take a left at the house where you got the quantum and there’s an open house. Second floor always has a sniper rifle though it can fall down to ground floor if it spawns before the collision mesh. Behind the house is a parking lot with a random encounter area. There’s a van with a couple bodies and random loot including a chem box. Depending on the random encounter there may be other random loot. 😃

South of Red Rocket is a tunnel containing a mole rat den. It has some good early loot including a fusion core. However, if you can stand to not going into that tunnel the loot outside the entrance is on a quick respawn that I have milked for at least 50 levels. Outside the tunnel is a brain fungus, 3 glowing funguses, a wooden box with a fire extinguisher and 4 tools, a table on wheels lying on it's side with a couple more tools, a couple of oil containers, and a coffee cup. Each time I walk out of Sanctuary I make a run down to the tunnel entrance, gather loot, head for the Northern Wild mutfruit bush in the hedge west of that first house, step thru that turn south gather 2 gourds and the Southern Wild Mutfruit then turn east and north for the other 3 gourds, go thru the door and turn right (south), get the sugar bomb off the top of the overhead cabinets, continue south a step or two , get the pork and beans of the top of the fridge, open the fridge, get the nuka quantum and the sugar bombs, (the first runthru has a caps stash in the oven that does not respawn) then turn east and head for the front door. There I pick up the baseball bat then go upstairs to gather the loot off the top of that short dresser, and if I have a point in lockpicking perk I can open that wall safe. Turn for the northeast corner for the chems container, then down the stairs and out the door. I continue my run thru the wooded lot across the street to the playground where I get the kickball from under the spaceship slide. Then I head north past the playground, thru the gap in the fence and loot the red toolbox under the stairs, go up the stairs and into the house. Behind the door is a First Aid kit and the fridge has some sugar bombs on top and so other pre-war food inside, turn east and gather more pre-war food off the kitchen counter, then around the corner to a suitcase with loot and sometimes the drawers under that, then east to the next set of drawers which is a sometime thing also, then north to pick up the loot off the bedside table and the safe under the bed. And out the front door. That wooded lot between the two loot houses has 3 stands of Hub Flowers that are on a slower respawn rate. Now you stand near the Northern entrance to Concord to continue where ever you want to go but with a few repeatable pieces of loot to get you started. All because you didn't kill a few mole rats to pick a single fusion core. Now go get the oil from the front of the Super Duper Mart in Lexington and rob the bank across the street.

The Satellite Station Olivia has a couple of looting locations. One is near the crashed Vertibird, a couple of containers scattered there can yield ammo or healing items while the other is at the edge of a Molerat nest( you'll see molerats walking atound plain as day in a flat area ). There's a shed with a bathtub with container in it... usually healing items and ammo box as well.

I love the place that you went to last. That place is great, I always leave the door open, and because I play survival a lot I have to walk a bunch. That house spawns VERY fast, and is a great source of early game loot. Or just a renewable source of sugar bombs (2 in the kitchen) and quantum/nuka's and chems. I always pick the lock, and get the loot/xp, with the added bonus that many companions like me picking locks. Another place to hit is the very similar house that looks over the parking lot nearby. There is also a few chems,a safe, and a dead raider upstairs with a pipe sniper rifle. It's also a nice place to snipe a few enemies that sometimes spawn at that parking lot at the beginning left edge of Concord. If you go over the hill at that parking lot is the drive-in that is my favorite settlement location. So many places I can build at!!!!!!

The chest between Red Rocket and Abernathy farm in the grave resets very quickly if the Mole Rat Den isn’t cleared out. Like you go over to Wicked Shipping from Red Rocket and by the time you get back it’s often refilled.

You missed the military bag behind the statue on your right just before you cross the bridge into Sanctuary.

Its one of the games I play every year and has to be survival mode. One thing I always grab is a military helmet in a armoured vehicle in the water surrounding Sanctuary. Helmets seem rare early on, you can normally cobbled together other bits of armour. Can't afford to use the power armour in every combat and found I was getting killed with lucky head shots.

That's the great thing about this game. So many different ways to go about your quest. Your way is similar to mine and then I head for Bunker Hill to buy the Spray n Pray off of Cricket. My fav weapon.

Harvest the wild mutfruit outside the house adjacent to the Red Rocket, (2 units) and the mutfruit on the hill heading to Abernathy Farms, (3 units ascending the hill and two more near the steamer trunk by the water tower). Wild mutfruit has the lowest rads for an unsafe food item. If you have to eat something irradiated, use that. Plus they only weigh 0.1 pounds each. Personally, I never enter the water in survival without Aqua Boy but especially if I don't already have antibiotics in my pocket. Pick up an infection early in the game without antibiotics and that could end your run. If you don't go downstairs in Gorski Cabin, the bottles and hot plate will respawn each time. Hot plates contain circuitry, very handy to have if you're building turrets.

I always used an alternate start mod (I think it was called start me up). But I most often chose the root cellar as my starting point. And if it wasn't that, it was the lonely chapel.

I've played multiples playthroughs and 100s of hours of Fallout 4, but I'm not much of an underwater explorer, so I didn't know about that trunk in the lake. You pretty much hit every single good spot for the best start except that I can't believe you forgot to point out that dufflebag at the feet of the Minute Man statue just outside Sanctuary, almost as soon as you clear the bridge. It's always filled with useful goodies for a starting character: weapons, armor, and ammo.

on survival, the first aid kit just outside the vault may contain at least one antibiotics. Sometimes you might even find three but that's pretty rare.

Btw, the Concord House has an instant reset time, if you leave the area and return, it will have all of those items again. It's one of a few locations like that, but it's especially useful for farming a lot of Quantum, which is a good healing supply early game. Now, the containers don't always reset immediately, but the loose items do, which is something to note. Also the gourds out back are a good way to get Sturges to stop pestering you about food, if you don't plan to use Sanctuary as your main base of operations, and want to plant your good crops elsewhere.

I got lucky one of the first few chests I found had a fat man and some mini nukes and then went and joined the brotherhood of steel so decent armor and weapons right off the bat and didn’t even worry about any combat perks went straight for master lock picking and hacking makes looting trivial lol

Another thing that I always get early on is the army helmet by the APC. It's stylish, and gives 10 DR to your head.

Great guide. One minor add: For survival mode....while in the Vault you can fill up the empty bottles inside the vault at the water fountains to get purified water before you leave the Vault....VERY helpful.

Another easy place to grab a fusion core early on is the Concord's sewers, just a single mirelurk and it's yours.

On survival I grab all the bottles from Vault 101 and fill them with water before leaving the vault. Also grab all of the radroach meat. I then go to the cellar and roof locations to grab whatever is there. Codworth and I clear Sanctuary where you can get some more meat from the bloatflies, usually lots of bobby pins and a good hat maybe with some stats. Then it's off to Sunshine Tidings to get the magazine for 2x meat on animal kills. On the way to Sunshine don't forget to stop at the end of the bridge and grab the Drifter Outit off the raider corpse, loot the duffle bag at the statue and loot the trunk half-way between the Red Rocket and Abernathy Farm. Hopefully the dam bridge is clear if not you have to sneak all the way around the lake. Once you have the magazine clear the radroaches and feral ghouls. Go back and get Dogmeat, kill all the molerats at the Red Rocket and cave. Go back to Sanctuary and build a bed and a water pump. By this time you should have plenty of meat to cook up and water to drink. I never eat any pre-war food. I like to be at least level 5 before hitting Concord because Gristle has a pretty good chance to drop a hunting rifle if you're level 5+. After that I like to stay around Sanctuary, Concord and Lexington until around level 10 and off to Diamond City. The hardest part is not getting insta-killed by a grenade from a raider.

You missed a cooler on a dock by the water pump and a first aid box in the water at the end of the pier. There is also a weapon bag by the statue across the bridge in Sanctuary. There is also other things in Sanctuary and all the scrap. Crafting gives you good experience. I would have also grabbed the plants outside the house you went to in Concord. There is a fair amount of caps, ammo, and other stuff in Sanctuary and you can cook all those rad roaches, set up the garden for when the Minutemen get there, and gain a few levels. You can also grab the cooking station and chem station from near the bridge and bring them over by the workshop. You can maybe improve the armor and 10mm. If you are doing survival then you might take Lead Belly and set up a water pump. You should have several beer bottle from the vault you can fill. You might put a perk point into the Luck trait that gives you extra ammo as ammo is needed all the time and since it does not take up any weight it is money If you clean out the rats in the cave under Red Rocket then clean out Red Rocket too. Take everything back to Sanctuary and go ahead and build the beds, water, food, and defenses you will need for the Minutemen no for the extra experience. There is also an APC with a bit of loot if you fallow the stream south of Sanctuary, but there is a bunch of nuclear waste around it. You can also hit Abernathy farm, pick some food. If you are feeling lucky you could hit the radar station and get a whole bunch of stuff and an extra mini nuke and fusion core. Remember those T-45 are cheap to repair. Pick up the locked while you are there. If you do this when you are grabbing the Fat Man then you can give the locket to Abernathy, but I would personally do this after Concord. I would drop off the power armor so you can grab the second power armor in Concord and clear out the sewer on the way back to Sanctuary. You already should have the missions to build up Sanctuary done and get all that experience. Hopefully you can put together both sets of power armor into one complete set and repair it all.

The boat where you removed the water actually has a few things in it, too, for the record. There's also another food item on top of the shelves to the right of the Quantum, and there's other Nuka Cola on the windowsill upstairs.

What about getting Dogmeat at Red Rocket, going back to the vault (111) and use him to retrieve the Cryolater? I have seen this on RU-vid and it works after a few tries and going through a few dialogue options... sometimes you need to close the door behind dogmeat, but he will fetch the gun for you without having to pick a Master Lock.

my favorite home was the root seller keep all my frames down in the bonker and loved I had a town on top to cover it all up making homemade shelters was my favorite way to play and leave hidden treasures for year to come back to one day

There's a pair of black-rim eyeglasses that give you +1 to charisma in the molerat den on a ledge of the cave next to a skeleton. They'll help you with your barter skill and they're not very common.

In the other little building outside of vault 111 theres a box of 10mm ammo and a switchblade as well... not neccesarily 100% unique or anything, but useful for the starter pistol and getting an early melee weapon.

I loved this game. Played through it twice and enjoyed every minute. Actually, the settlement building was a bit of a pain but otherwise…😂. Hoping that now theres the TV series we’ll get Fallout 5 ASAP 🤞🏼

Concord Water Tower: A few bottles of purified water are at the base of it, as well as a first aid kit box with supplies inside it. Verti-Bird: By the Verti-Bird between the craft and the hillside there's an ammo can in the grass and another yellow wooden container between the crashed Verti-Bird and AFS Olivia. Concord House: when you're in the kitchen getting the Nuka-Cola Quantum, look up and to the right and there's another box of Sugar Bombs on the kitchen cupboards. The Minuteman Statue: Just across the bridge from Sanctuary Hills there's a statue and at the base is a duffle bag between the road and the statue, moving around behind the statue you'll find a pile of pre-war money.

At the watertower is a stash with purified water en stimpaktoo. Also next ti the statue across the sanctuary bridge has a duffelbag

Scrap everything in Sanctuary. Build fence posts and wire fence, scrap, and repeat until you've used all wood and steel. You'll end up at about level 16-20 and it allows you to build your character before you leave the first area. You can level even further with the Idiot Savant perk, which multiplies the building XP by 3 randomly.

On the look out point looking at the vault to the east, there is some supplies. On the river to the northest southside of the river, more stims.

That's pretty much how I started my first playthrough. It was fun rolling into Concord for the first time already wearing power armor. If you were careful, I think you could get another partial suit from the lake near Covenant

Hello, thank you for this guide this is my first time playing any of the fallout games and I was struggling, I finally got past the monster in Concord after dying 10 plus times picked up a quest to talk to some people in a forest that needed me to fight some raiders in converge and died immediately several times until I decided to say I need more help, said all of that to say that you need a guide because this game is not for beginners, lol😂😂 Your guide makes me feel more equipped. My latest start failed. Probably because I modded it and one of the mods did not play well with others. I got to the museum of Freedom and put on the power armour and grabbed the mini gun. I got on the roof and glitch was no raiders or deathclaw! Sucks. Oh sometimes under the water there is a raider power armor suit. You missed one important item. After you get Dog go get the heavy weapon in Vault 111 called the Cryolator. It's a good early game weapon!

I just go straight to Virgil in the Glowing Sea. Low sneak is fun with the Deathclaw outside his cave at round 1

A great game marred (for me) by one thing...the endless repeatable settlement defense missions. My OCD wouldn't allow me to ignore them and I came to hate Preston Garvey with a passion.

Like 1h and 14 mins, like time to go to the Museum and you have a T45 armor and the gatling gun :)

1) For survival runs, there's also a small railroad lookout overlooking the Vault 111 entrance up the hill. Usually has some water and a few other supplies 2) Again for survival, especially for those who like to set up water farms in Sanctuary to fund themselves. Once you scrap everything in Sanctuary you're usually missing some circuitry for the Industrial Purifiers, you can sleep to save before checking the cellar and keep reloading the save to reroll the contents of the wooden crate until you get what you need 3) IDK if its guaranteed, but the Clean Black Suit in the suitcase at the water filtration pump is a Charisma boosting item. Charisma affects merchant prices of course so that suit is great to use in combination with Rank 1 of Cap Collector and any other Charisma boosting items/drinks 4) That leveled suit of PA at the Vertibird crash is a godsend on early survival runs if you intend to go to concord and clear it

How do you get lock picking? I started off and I can't do lockpicking, do i have to put 10 in intelligence to do that from the start?

About the only thing you could really add to this is a good (non-pipe) rifle for sniping.

You missed a Nuka Cola in that Vault pod in the first few seconds. It's on the floor by the door.

It’s funny because I went to that satellite place and opened a vault tex lunchbox and got a quantum and I have no idea if that’s rare or not

To me some of these advice don't go well with survival mode: Early on you really need to avoid getting ill since Antibiotics and/or medics are rare. Two factors that increase the risk of getting ill is a) spending time swimming, and b) using Radaway. Diving for the trunk in the lake and taking rads in the Molerat Den are thus not adviced! (I also avoid consuming any food that give me rads, even if it has other positives. Cooking your own food and chems gives you better quality products and XP.)

I just started playing this game and following your steps and came across the power armor but mine didn't have a helmet lol is this known to happen?

With mods it makes this game more playable
