To be honest, I can’t remember a time from my childhood when I was happy. I struggled with depression and anxiety from a very early age, which eventually took me on a very long path of healing and understanding depression and it’s causes.
I am no longer depressed, but I take depression very seriously and watch out for any signs of it coming back. I make sure to take extra good care of myself when I feel down or extra anxious to make sure my depression won’t come back.
I have been free from my depression for the past few years and not being depressed is maybe not surprisingly the best thing ever! And I want to know that despite what other people might say, healing is possible.
In this video I talk about depression and anxiety, but please be aware that I do touch briefly on topics that might be triggering to some, such as self-harm, eating disorders and suicidal thoughts.

I am a naturopath in Switzerland and I give you my total approval for every word that you say ! You are perfectly right, conventional medication for depression are absolutely NOT a long term solution. Many people don’t know that this kind of medication is designed originally for short term use as they have severe side effects and will affect negatively the brain chemistry if used for a long time… I truly admire you holistic approach and sincerely believe that you guidelines are inspiring many people. Thank you 🙏

I agree with a lot of what you’re saying but for me personally anti depressants have been so helpful. I also do the things you suggest and look into the reason for the depression, what triggers it, etc and do self work, change of life style, educate myself, I also see society as it really is ( you’re right they don’t care at all ) I have tried to come off antidepressant numerous times, but for me that doesn’t work.

How did you work all this out at such a young age. I am in my sixties my anxiety started in my early teens. I was treated badly for many years back then little was talked about on this subject. I learnt to hide it for many many years, I pushed myself into a career as a social worker which I didn't really want to do but I didn't want to be seen as a useless nobody.. My personal life has always been difficult. I am now working to jobs that I hate have on anti depressants and anti psychotic meds for years. Sorry for long comment but I think deep inside I new I should be living a completely different way.. Now it's to late but I hope many more people watch your videos you are amazing better than any therapist. Love and peace to everyone xxxxx💛

In my experience, medication can help a person with severe depression and/or anxiety become functional enough to find a way to heal. It’s a difficult journey; some people complete it, but most people stay on medication. Your words are very inspiring and true; I’m happy that you have found your path out of depression. 🙂

Thank You so much Saga. This world is a much better place with you in it. I learned a saying while I was trying to solve my depression, that I thought that you might appreciate. Once I realized that some of the Places that I would frequent were not Healthy for me AND some of the people in my Life were also not healthy for me, knowing that I needed to make these changes in my Life, if I were to progress in my healing, when I tried to explain this to another, I simply would say: "that I need to change my Playgrounds and Playmates." I believe that this defines what it is that I was doing, yet in no more detail than was necessary. I thought that you would understand this saying, your having moved to various other countries, etc. This was precisely what I had to do as well... Change my Playgrounds. Then to break from Toxic "friendships," or Change my Playmates. Perhaps a little child-like, yet easily understood. I hope this made some amount of sense to you. Please remain Well & reasonably Happy too. Keep Smiling... Cheers (Skol) FYI: My Parents emigrated to the U.S. from Sweden, so I am the first generation of my family to be born in a country other than Sweden.

It’s tough on both sides. I’ve been depressed too and I also managed to get burned out, left with chronic panic anxiety. Yes, have had therapy and that really helped a lot. That took me out of depression. Yes, I’m still on meds for my panic attacks because my brain simply signals wrongly in any situation. But meds helps me. I’m glad you don’t have to go on any meds. So summary: my biggest issue is panic anxiety with agoraphobia. That doesn’t hinder me from going out. Or travel. I just can’t do it alone but hey - I’ve got my hubby! Or grown up kids. Acceptance is important too. I’m very happy in my life and somehow getting burned out was turned to something positive. Though a brutal way to wake up, I needed it. I’m so happy that you’re no longer depressed. 💗

I took antidepressants for 8 months, the first two months I felt relief, but then the medicine stopped working, although I increased the doses. Now, for several months now, I have not taken the medicine at all and I do not know what to do at all. At the beginning of the treatment, I believed that the medicine would help, that I would recover quickly, but now I have no faith in anything. I know many people suffer from depression for years, but two years has already worn me out. As you said, it is necessary to find the root of the problem, but the people who are connected with it do not even want to accept the situation as it is. Thank you for your tips, I will definitely use them.

It's actually not about depression only, it brings so many different topics that it is quite revolutionary, orient yourself, don't buy the values they sell, live with your values, so simple and powerful, the more people understand it is life and death issue for all, the bigger the impact the more we can do something, tack så mycket for this one 🙌🔥

1) Anxiety and Depression coexist very often. 2) You've had other episodes before, new ones had to happen. 3) Medication does work wonders, if diagnose is correct and it's correctly use. 4) You have a hard genetic burden. 5) You can't cure your depression, in much the same way that you can't avoid being blonde. 6) Very wrong, again, about medication - all those side effects almost never happen (I'm a psychiatrist). 7) If no doctors / no therapists lifestyle cured the depression, that was not a depression. 8) 60mg Fluoxetine is not a crazy dose. 9) Feeling happy doesn't equally not having depression. 10) No, there's not enough evidence to use dietary supplements (in general) for depression, anxiety, ... 10) We don't look too much about the root cause because too often you don't find it, it is usually genetic - look at your family (your family). 11) You self-harmed (¿BPD features?) + hade an Eating Disorder? That'd mean you didn't have "just a Depression. 12) No, you don't work for huge corporations; if you believe that, don't ever use any medication, don't ever receive surgery again, ... 13) You can't heal a real Depression - check out neurobiology on Depression and other diagnoses you've mentioned. 14) Not happy doesn't equal Depressed, again. You're very wrong in almost everything you say, and it's really sad, as you've travelled a long Mental Health path, that they didn't teach these very basic things. You're even wrong about enlightenement. Besides, you've said on another video you have Autism, couldn't it be that many problems you've mentioned go with it, plus those BPD features? They explain everything to me, even your experience with therapy and medication. Anyhow, I wish you the best, you seem a lovely young positive woman.

I'm depressed and anxious at the moment, I've just lost my grandpa and my ocd has come back for the first time in 10 years. I actually want to live in Scandinavia, I love history and being so close to so many other European countries (I'm from Australia and it takes forever to get anywhere 😅). I think I'm scared because it's so far away and this has made me question everything and led to an identity crisis ( before this I just wanted to live on a farm and work in agriculture meet a nice girl , which I have she's from Denmark and have my own gym, worked in a corporation and I honestly hated that environment, constantly being demanded to do this , do this etc. Even after my grandpa s death I was told not to take time off)arghhh I was starting to feel better until yesterday I had someone said to me stop being lazy and get a move on , arghh so annoying being told that when I literally never had a day off for 3 years. Its so frustrating when you literally can't get out of bed because your mind is going through hell and being told that. Anyway thanks for the video 🙂. The comment is probably all over the place but just my mind is all over the place

Hello Saga I wish it were this simple. I have been seriously depressed for 30 years and know that if I wasn't on my meds (the side effects you mentioned are the very rare ones and ease overtime - a month or two) I definitely would not still be alive. Anti depressants will not cure you but as a diabetic needs insulin so I need my meds. If your lovely alternatives work for someone else then I would be so pleased but for me I am just too ill. I did try most but they didn't help. I have been very lucky to have had fantastic medics wherever I live too.

@SagaJohanna
@SagaJohanna Год назад
Thank you so much! Yes of course. It has a dual meaning. My mom always wore a golden necklace, but it was lost when she died, so it is a reminder of her and a symbol of our spiritual connection. It is also a "vegan" necklace that has the reasons for being vegan on it: the planet, peace, compassion, the animals, and "v" for vegan. I used to think I would struggle with veganism, and as a vegetarian I used to say "I could never go vegan". Now I am vegan for compassion and plant based for my health. I don't eat any processed food and the only reason I thrive doing this is because of the fantastic resources I have discovered along the way, and a incredibly abundant mindset: nutritionfacts.org/, his books "How not to die" and "how not to diet" are incredible, I can't recommend them enough. The China Study, a bit of a deep dive but very fascinating

@SagaJohanna
@SagaJohanna Год назад
Going to the doctor may help, but they can either prescribe you medication or refer you to someone that you can talk to. Since you’re 13 you may have access to a counselor via your school or a youth service, depending on where you’re living. I would look into that first! And if you need a doctor to refer you go to the doctor first :)

Please look at the clinical studies shared in the depression! There you can see that there is a lack of scientific evidence to prove that SSRI medication work. To be clear, I’m not taking about ALL medication. I’m talking about SSRI anti depressants. Hope this helps :)

I agree, this is very harmful to say medications don't work. Nothing was helping me for years, but after 1 week of medications I started to feel much better. I'm taking it years and no side effects besides mood being stabilised. There are many clinical studies showing how there are healing people with low serotonin level which might be organic. Once again- very harmful content.

I believe medication gives you a temporary relieve, but how would you feel if you come off them? Unless you will decide to take medication forever. I personally don’t like relying on medication, I’m trying to deal with my depression in a different way, but like you said everyone is different and what works for me might not work for you.

You use your logic, and it seems that it worked for you. But other people may have other circumstances and may be truly helped by having the right psychiatrist who will work with them to find the right medicine. If you are bipolar you cannot wish it away, if you are clinically depressed you cannot wish it away. I feel very sad you are making general statements that could influence someone else to deny their path to get helthy. I feel it is very irresponsible on your side. Other self-harming girls may not be able to consciously stop their behaviour. Good for you if you did, but I wish you would support other people's way of healing as oppossed to demonizing them. Good luck to you.

You should avoid talking medications, but for some people it is an absolute necessity. A person’s individual chemistry will react very differently to medications in some circumstances. Depression has many causes and cannot be treated the same for everyone.

Great tips ! There is more than good reason why Saga says what she says. She relies on hard scientific evidence about ssri antidepressants revealed publicly, recently. The public at large has not yet caught this information, yet it is ongoing and you will easily find what you need to know by googling it, for those who wonder. We have got to be sure about the value of the medication we take since its effect on our bodies is huge, most of the time invisible and silent but nevertheless, very real. Medication that works is often worth the problems it will create but medication that is not proven safe and useful is not worth the many negative effects it will always have, right away or down the road. In medicine we don't speak of meds as"poison" for nothing but because they all are toxic one way or another. Some are infinitely precious, life-saving and worth the trouble. We accept that : risk and benefit are weighed constantly. Depression is such an incredibly painful disorder to have that we all are eager to find relief. Only those who suffer or who have suffered from depression can really understand. I get it, since I am personally very familiar with depression. Our personal experience is very important to us and should be. But it cannot serve as proof of anything; science and huge studies involve the infinitely precise observation of thousands, hundreds of thousand of individuals over a very long period of time according to an extremely strict protocol. Some run for decades. There are also many poorly managed studies floating around led by unscrupulous scientists or doctors. There are such huge financial gains to be made that it cannot be helped. Great care must be taken to identify legitimate sources that respect the protocol. It is best to verify for others and for ourselves as soon as it is possible. What have you got to lose ? Today, it is possible for anyone to check facts out. At least, we can learn to be cautious about the affirmations we make. Our young swedish girl knows what she is talking about. Nobody believes anymore in the scientific community that the serotonin theory of depression is empirically substantiated. There is no evidence, no proof, whatsoever, and there never has been. Perhaps, some day, someone will prove that ssri antidepressants work, but for now, no one has. You'll understand that the fact that some of us feel better after taking them cannot validate anything since the improvement could be due to ANY number of other factors occurring at the same time as we take the medication. Google it, you'll see what has been going on immediately. Check your sources and ask professionals around. Some will still be clueless, but most are aware, now. If you don't know how to analyse the validity of a scientific study, you can learn on the internet : it's easy but you have to understand the requirements. This is useful for anyone who wants to know more about any medication. So, if you are so inclined, kindly review the scientific literature which now is revealing left and right that what we were told about ssri antidepressants is NOT true. Psychiatrists all over the world have been discreetly questioning ssri antidepressants for years simply because they became distressed year after year as they observed they were not helping patients but had to deal with side effects and addiction...It is their patients who started demanding an explanation. So they wanted PROOF and never got any. This revelation is shocking but good because now "they" are going to work on finding something that really works ! As a matter of fact, they are working on it as we speak. I did look into it all because it concerns me and doing research is something I enjoy. I come from a scientific and medical background so this is something that comes naturally to me. There are tons of studies out there that demonstrate that there was NEVER any evidence produced that ssri anti-depressants work : we were lied to for decades. You can try to find ONE study that demonstrates the positive effect of those meds, you won't find any because there are none. Professionals have known about this for a long time but didn't know what to do. Some profited from the huge benefits produced. I have asked psychiatrists here in France about this and they ALL admitted that they were fooled too. Some admit that they knew there was never any scientific proof. Below are a couple of excerpts from the most serious scientific journal NATURE. They did a systematic "umbrella" review of all the evidence : it was published last year and all psychiatrists are now taking a step back. It created havoc amongst professionals. Some are horrified that they were so lied to and admit that they observed no proof of value in ssri meds given to their patients, ever : most people recover without the medication and many who take it do not respond at all. Those patients who, it is thought, are responding positively are experiencing placebo effects. What matters here is simply to get informed carefully. The general public is convinced that ssri anti depressants work due to the incredible buzz that has been going on for decades and the fact that professionals have been influenced by the buzz too : they are only human. Last year it was officially and publicly confirmed that ssri antidepressants do not work differently than any placebo. We now know that pharmaceutical companies pushed these meds without any scientific evidence, ever, and hid as much negative information as possible. Remember cigarettes ? Same thing went on for decades, until it was no longer possible to hide the truth... There are many other ways to deal with depression. -------- 20 july 2022 Molecular psychiatry The serotonin theory of depression: a systematic umbrella review of the evidence "The chemical imbalance theory of depression is still put forward by professionals [17], and the serotonin theory, in particular, has formed the basis of a considerable research effort over the last few decades [14]. The general public widely believes that depression has been convincingly demonstrated to be the result of serotonin or other chemical abnormalities [15, 16], and this belief shapes how people understand their moods, leading to a pessimistic outlook on the outcome of depression and negative expectancies about the possibility of self-regulation of mood [64,65,66]. The idea that depression is the result of a chemical imbalance also influences decisions about whether to take or continue antidepressant medication and may discourage people from discontinuing treatment, potentially leading to lifelong dependence on these drugs [67, 68]. [...]This review suggests that the huge research effort based on the serotonin hypothesis has not produced convincing evidence of a biochemical basis to depression. This is consistent with research on many other biological markers [21]. We suggest it is time to acknowledge that the serotonin theory of depression is NOT empirically substantiated." Cheers, mate, from France. 🤗
