Hello Nina, thank you so much for sharing this. It really brings clarity to a lot of situations in my life, it does help that you are a great speaker. I would like to ask you 3 things. Feel free to not answer or to just point me to some direction. 1. Can emotions arise before thoughts 2. Do you know if different emotions are stored/released in/from different parts of the body 3. Is there such a thing as a healthy amount of times that we can rise up to sympathetic levels and a healthy amount of time to stay before decrease? Thank you again Tiago
@Nina.Goradia
@Nina.Goradia 3 года назад
Thank you and my pleasure! 1. Yes, definitely! 2. Yes, all the time :) 3. I'm not sure if the amount of time has been measured, but I have not run into this information yet in my studies. I would follow the body's lead regarding this and allow it to be in the states as long as it naturally wants to. The mind will need to step aside from what it thinks is the right state or amount of time and trust the body will be able to properly regulate based on the present situation. Great questions!

this was extremely eye opening! I know I've commented on some of your videos before, but I have struggled with going through waves of a cycle of depression and hyper-focusing on my job/hobbies. I thought this cycle was just going to continue repeating itself throughout my life. It was hard to continue because it was making me SICK. I developed digestive issues, back problems, and self destructive habits trying to cope with it. This year I hit the depressive side of my cycle again and it was BAD. I physically felt like I couldn't get up and do stuff. I was just pushing through considering going back on depression medication *which can be a great tool for some! but for me personally it made me feel like it was just forcing me to suppress my emotions* and I pretty much gave myself an ultimatum. I told myself that if the meds didn't work I would just end it all. It was hard. I tried everything traditional therapy told me to do and it still didn't feel like I had a solid GOAL. Everything I tried felt like I was shooting darts in the dark, hoping one of them would land and finally heal me. Then I found the polyvagal theory and somatic practices and in a desperate effort of trying to heal I became obsessed with it. It was a fresh perspective on my experience. It outlined achievable goals. It made me feel normal and seen. The fact that I wasn't just victim of a hereditary trait helped me see the light. I started slowly incorporating certain practices and habits into my life, but that isn't what had the biggest impact on me. What truly did it was being told that I didn't have to RUN AWAY from these emotions. That I wasn't abnormal or not good enough for feeling them. That the goal isn't to erase them, but rather to embrace them. THAT made everything just click for me. That knowledge helped me understand that I truly do have the power to heal myself. Now I'm obviously not "healed" (but who is ever fully healed anyway?) but I have taken the first step and accepted that if I want to heal both mentally and physically I have to turn these teachings into a lifestyle. It takes time, but in just a month I have been able to do a 180. I don't expect myself to have to feel "ok" in order to enjoy life. I don't "fear the fear" as much anymore. Now I'm able to get through rough days with the understanding that just because I cried, broke down, or felt uncomfortable feelings it doesn't mean I have failed. It's all progress! I now understand it won't be perfect or pretty, but it can be done. I just can't thank you and other practitioners enough! those of you who have shared their knowledge for free on the Internet have changed so many lives. Obviously we still live in a capitalist system, so I understand practitioners have to charge for their courses and services in order to survive themselves, but just taking the time to give people the fundamentals is a great gift.

What a beautiful life changing video - but it ended when I needed it the most - how do I release those trapped emotions? the stored ones..how do I make the red box smaller? I've already worked on disidentifying from thoughts and willingly sitting with the sensations already here and befriending them. this takes care of future and present happenings, but how do I deal with the trauma already experienced as a child - the "stored or trapped" emotions. That's where the video ended :(

I'm so glad to hear this work resonates for you! Yes, this video is addressing the theory portion only. In the next hour of this presentation, I guide a group of people through some experiential exercises. The reason I didn't post that part is because sometimes people can get stuck or have an emotional "emergency" with going into their traumas unless they are guided by someone who is trained. In the experiential portion of this presentation, we had 2 people out of about 200 that needed to stay afterwards with me so that I could help them out of where they were stuck. It only took 5 minutes of speaking with me afterwards that brought both people out of the unstuck place. They just needed guidance of which direction to go. That's because in a group, I'm unable to individually meet the needs of each person and it ends up being more generic than an individual facilitation. I'm still on the fence about posting the exercises online without any facilitation due to this reason, but may consider it in the future. I know of someone who tried a video online (thankfully, not mine) and ended up temporarily in a psych ward afterwards and then contacted me for help to recover from the trauma of having done that video. So, not to scare anyone off at all because this work is extremely safe; however, it's good to know if someone has a particular mental health history, etc so that we can do it safely. In the upcoming Patreon program this January 2022, I will have all of this available in group format and I will be present to facilitate in case anyone needs extra help. I feel most comfortable doing it this way for now. I see you have contacted me and very much hope to see you there 🙂🙏🏼

Is there a safe way to do this for complex PTSD crisis state with a recent severe trauma assault that triggered all the past traumas from very early childhood forward and with dissociative identity disorder issues? I tried to do the “where is this feeling stored in your body?” at home with a video and had a horrid flashback and alter meltdown. I’m afraid to try again, at least while alone. I do not understand how to do this with proper “titration”, without getting sucked into overwhelming flashback/trauma/alter reaction. I would greatly appreciate any insight you might have about this type of situation.
@Nina.Goradia
@Nina.Goradia 3 года назад
Thanks for your question. I would absolutely not try to do this on your own in this situation. It's critical to find a practitioner to guide you through this. I would not even do this on my own for myself for complex PTSD, even as a practitioner. I would even go so far as to say it may be impossible to do this effectively on one's own for a large complex PTSD trigger with dissociative identity issues. Very possible with a practitioner though! Not having enough resources to manage the stimulation thrown at us is what causes trauma. When we revisit a trauma, we must come with more resources than when we left or we can easily be pulled into the trauma vortex and possibly retraumitized. A practitioner brings many extra resources to the table. What you can do on your own is resourcing techniques to ground and stabilize you as often as needed. Hope this helps and best wishes in your healing journey 🙏🏼

@@cherylwilsherlimberlife7210 I learned a lot from any doctor that made sense to me.I am certainly not a doctor myself but I have much respect and give much honor to those doctors that only promote drugs as a last resort instead of a first line of defense. But basically I speak to anyone I come across willing to take action on what I mention to them. I don't waste time on people that do not take my words seriously. I had plenty of time to research a lot and learn a large body of knowledge. You should read the new book by James Nestor called Breath. It talks all manner of breathing benefits and issues from mouth breathing. Basically breath slower and use diaphragm more and chest less. And practice everyday to change long set hard wiring in the brain. Eventually and gradually the subconscious mind will take over to full time nasal breathing. Mouth breathing causes all manner of poor health such as less and unproductive sleep, sleep apnea, gum disease, memory issues, anxiety, and on and on.

This really is excellent, Nina. I am planning to do some work with an SE practitioner after Xmas after half a year of trying to do a lot of this on my own. I know I have made a lot of progress on many little T traumas, but some of my bigger traumas still overwhelm me very easily. Watching your video has made me realise that I need that additional support to take that next step. One thing I do agree with is about your focus on thoughts/assumptions. Daniel P. Brown, creator of the Three Pillars model for attachment and trauma, talks about the fact that 'the absence of a negative does not make a positive.' It is so evident that working somatically is the first step, but then we must work on how we see the world in a wider sense. Only then can we be our very best.

Is it useful to use thought to trigger the feeling in order to feel them out and not be afraid of them? Or just allow them to come naturally and no actually attempting to draw out the feeling artificially
@Nina.Goradia
@Nina.Goradia 3 года назад
Great question! Both are valid doorways to access feelings. The first way is nice to use if a buried feeling is causing behavioral issues or other symptoms and you want to target it. The 2nd way often happens with overwhelm or when we are neutral in our outlook and these feelings feel safe enough to come up to be seen. Most people work with a combination of both.

I'll aprreciate if you consider to share those ,but I understand your thoughts about it, I alsho had retramatized myself earlier with tryin some techniue (when I had money to that ) , but it brought up something so deep that I couldn't handle yet, but now I know that at first I have to build capacity, so if maybe you share , I'd be very very grateful !
@Nina.Goradia
@Nina.Goradia 2 года назад
Thanks for your understanding and I completely understand the desire to want this information to heal. I think it's exceptionally unsafe in your case (due to cptsd and retraumatizing yourself with a previous technique) to do this on your own. It is critical to do this with a practitioner. If this is not an option, then you'll need to do it by barely dipping in to your feelings and then coming out relatively quickly in a titrated manner. I'm going to start a patreon program where I can at least be present to facilitate for people in case anything goes wrong. It will be very affordable, so that's another option, but it's not geared towards cptsd. It's for people with lighter PTSD since it's in groups and also because I'm a PT who went through the SEP program and not a licensed mental health practitioner. So you'll want to be touching in with a therapist even if you do this program. I hope this helps to clarify. Safety is the most important factor in my wanting to be present while people are doing these exercises. Best wishes in your healing journey🙏🏼

Also, I would start with my videos on physical resourcing techniques and the experiential exercises playlist. Thank you for the explanation but I found one thing confusing. You said that by doing the "pure SE" you weren't addressing the client's conditioning and beliefs. However, Peter Levine does also address the meaning and conditioning related to trauma and emotions etc. in his books, exercises, demonstrations and interviews. Does that mean that not every SEP learns to include that part in the therapy they offer?
@Nina.Goradia
@Nina.Goradia Год назад
Yes, his books contain it, but this part wasn't taught in detail in my program. I had to learn it separately through his books and many other teachers 1-on-1. I personally haven't met an SEP who offers this to this level, but I'm sure there are many who do. Also, there are different instructors for the modules, so maybe some of the other instructors are teaching it, but it wasn't taught in mine. We did learn about SIBAM, but it was just an intro. The sessions we practiced with each other were all body led. Also, when I say I'm not practicing pure SE, I'm referring mostly to the spiritual lens I'm integrating with it. A lot of how I practice now was Iearned in a non dual way. For example, the disidentification hacks on the left of the chart as well in sessions, ultimately working towards disidentifying with the trauma ego identity and personhood to see we are infinite consciousness. This has a history much older than SE, but is in complete alignment with it.

What is the difference between fight or flight energy and emotions? In the presentation of the autonomic nervous system you talk about fight or flight activation and in the trauma chart you refer to emotions. What is the correlation between both of them?
@Nina.Goradia
@Nina.Goradia 9 месяцев назад
Fight or flight energy is cortisol and adrenaline running through the body when we are triggered. They are trauma responses that cause reflexive actions in the body to escape or fight to survive a situation. An emotion is a story plus a sensation. These happen even when we are not in fight or flight. Body sensations can be created through thoughts and then the mind will usually project meaning onto them (which is the emotion label), continuing the cycle of story plus sensation.

I read your feedback, thank you. When triggered, are we triggered in stored emotion or in fight and flight energy? Is a stored emotion when triggered usually covered by fight or flight energy to not feel it?

I’ve been doing some somatic and body awareness exercises, tracking/discharging stuck energy since January 1, 2023 every day, my sleep has improved a lot, and I already feel way less immobile, however one thing that strikes me most is muscular tension in the face, particularly in the afternoon while sitting at the computer (I enjoy what I do), It’s hard and annoying, I always try to accept it and simply let it remain there, but it takes my energy away, it's like I need to spend the entire day just with the facial tension rather than focus on my goals and moving forward, any train of thought or advice to interrupt the cycle?

I'm glad to hear the tracking has been helping...and so quickly! I have a few videos on facial tension and emotions stuck in the face: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-XXmFUGuW0Cs.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-eR_txtVPa0g.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-O2XaI4NsIc0.html Once you view them, you can get the hang of how to be with facial tension in general: Let it express fully. If it still remains, question what thought or behavior might be causing it. If it's still there, it might be a stuck trauma or general resistance to feeling emotions. Good luck!!

Thank you so much Nina!! It’s good to have someone like you during these difficult times. I’ll check those videos right now. I don’t know if this related or not, because it happened a long while ago during childhood, and I only started having facial tension in the last 3 years, I’ve been hit intentionally with soccer balls on the face twice, and I got slapped harshly on the face by teachers on 5th grade, 8, 9 and 10 grade

@@aymanreal You're welcome! So sorry to hear this... Sometimes it's from childhood and the body could cope with suppressing it for this long until it finally starts showing up later. Keep exploring and investigating techniques and it should start to heal once you find the right combination. Also, see if you can be kind and loving to it because that's what a child who was treated that way needed. We give ourselves the opposite of what our trauma was to heal. Maybe even a soothing stroking of the face and see how that feels 🙏🏼

@@Nina.Goradia 🙏 WILL DO! Does facial tension have to do with incomplete self-protective responses? If so how? I’m really passionate about this and want to eventually become a SEP
@Nina.Goradia

@@aymanreal Often incomplete expression, but could also be general stress and tension. Maybe it wasn't safe to show your real emotions in the former environment, so they had to be blunted. Instructions for completion get stuck in the ganglia of our nerve cells and need to be connected to discharge. I've got to run now, but keep studying. It's beautiful you want to be an SEP...lots of people need help and it will help your own healing more too 😊🙏🏼

Yes, it can definitely be cured. This is a somatic memory arising in your body and it sounds really hard. You will need to work with a somatic experiencing practitioner near you for a few sessions to release this. They can devise an individualized treatment plan based on your symptoms and how your body is responding in the sessions. I hope you get relief soon 🙏🏼

@@SilverSurfeq1989 Are you able to work with someone online? The tips have to be individualized to your symptoms or they can cause you more harm. This information would have to be gathered in a session to give you the right information. Do you want me to help you find a practitioner?
