Living with depression, anxiety, and negative thoughts each and every day can feel like a merry-go-round of pain that is seemingly impossible to get off of. What if there was a quick, prescription-free method that was powerful and effective at attacking the roots of our negative thoughts? What would a clear step-by-step blueprint look like? How can we begin walking on a path towards feeling great and eliminating our deep-seated depression, anxiety, and negativity? On this episode of Impact Theory, psychiatrist, cognitive behavioral therapist, and author David Burns joins Tom Bilyeu to discuss such matters and more as they explore the incredible and real world practical effects of cognitive behavioral therapy and how you can begin applying it your life today to overcome depression, anxiety, and negativity. They discuss the power of cognitive behavioral therapy, the connection between your emotional thoughts and neurochemistry, the power of T.E.A.M. therapy, techniques to overcoming your negative thoughts, and the types of resistance and roadblocks we create for ourselves in therapy and recovery.

When he said your depression is a result of you giving yourself messages that are cruel and untrue. That really hit me, I shed a tear, probably one of the most liberating sentences I have ever heard in my life. wow!

This dude helped create CBT which saved my life. Id love to donate to him whatever I can. He saved many lives maybe over a million as SAD has a very high self deletion rate.

I know this guy. His book saved my life about 20 years ago. I still use skills I learned in his book. I was hospitalized and my psychiatrist recommended his book. I still take antidepressants because it is a genetic disease for me, but his book changed my life. Thank you!👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Dr. David Burns saved my life. My friend lent me her copy of “Feeling Good” on the day I was planning to kill myself. That was eight years ago, and to this day, I still do my daily CBT mood journal to talk back to that inner critic in my head. Thank you Dr. Burns for helping me find joy in life once again!

Went down the road of medication which lasted only three months. It actually made my anxiety worse! Little by little I’m learning that I need to change my thought patterns.

This is so important. I once met a psychiatrist who told me that healing from personality disorders was impossible. I think these "doctors" who do not understand the healing/recovery should be removed from doing psychotherapy. They do more harm by convincing patients that they are condemned for life.

I am 57 years old. I lived with extreme anxiety and depression. All my life. At this point in my life I have for the past 5 years learned on my own after learning about cognitive therapy and when I seen this episode with your research and new techniques I had a complete reassurance that I am more healthier now and can honestly see that you are 100%correct with all you said ...The way you battled through in scientifically proved what we as humans do that can unwittingly create a sick mental state to the point of giving suicidal thoughts and losing all joy in life. You have given the world a wondrous gift. Thank you, may you feel joy and satisfaction from your work.

“I judge you unfortunate because you have never lived through misfortune. You have passed through life without an opponent-no one can ever know what you are capable of, not even you.”

“The key to your happiness is to own your slippers, own who you are, own how you look, own your family, own the talents you have, and own the ones you don't. If you keep saying your slippers aren't yours, then you'll die searching, you'll die bitter, always feeling you were promised more. Not only our actions, but also our omissions, become our destiny.”

What I discovered about anxiety is groundbreaking. At the heart of all anxiety is a desperate need to CONTROL. What I mean is behind any anxious thought there is a need to control other people's thoughts, reactions, actions etc. To further explain by an example, say someone is anxious about a certain situation, in their mind there is this game going on where the outcome is to be determined by the anxious person. The only way out of this game is to release control of the what the outcome should be. The anxious person will say "ok I will give up control or give up my projections, but what about controlling my own side of the thought game". Well as I discovered the minute you give up your projections and allow external situations(people, events etc) to determine their own outcomes, immediately your own mind starts to rest. Give up control!!!!

I was told "the brain doesn't understand the English language because it's not its native tongue. BEHAVIOR is the language of the brain and you must speak to it with behaviors if you want to effectively communicate with it"....and I think that's changed my life

Mushrooms containing psilocybin saved my life. They aided my benzodiazepine withdrawal allowing me to quit illicit pill addiction after three years of heavy daily use before it would’ve become medically dangerous to quit. It has also helped me survive depression.
