What really helped me get heelflips consistent after learning them was to lean a bit on the toe side of the flick foot. If you look closely, you can see him do the same with his heel a couple mm off the board.
I find it hilarious that for me 4 years ago I was learning kickflips and hadn’t landed one for days and then for some reason I thought “imma do a heel flip real quick” AND FUCKING LANDED MY CLEANIST HEELFLIP EVER but had never even attempted to heelflip nor learn how(via tutorials, practice, etc) ever in my life. Truly no better feeling since then.
yep some of us are natural to the kick tricks and others the heel tricks. well done I was exactly the same. If I am moving at any speed I will choose a heel flip over a kick flip any day. I just feel a lot safer with them knowing I am not about to face plant if I screw it up.
Same for me, randomly landed my first heelflip and I was so stoked. Been practicing them lately and I landed a couple Clean. Feels so much better than kick flip to me.
that basically happened to me (i didn’t land it) BUUUTTT, i did rotate it even without having any knowledge of technique and foot positioning. But now i cant even flip the board
I loved that you explained the detail about putting your center of gravity behind you to make the board flip below you. This is a detail that I found out waaaaay too late, but it would have helped me a lot before. Many tutorials just say "keep trying until you get it", but although it requires practice, these little details make the learning experience better.
I was getting frustrated learning heelflips and then I found this video. Watched about half the vid and landed a heelflip 5 minutes later. Thanks for the trick tip Jonny, you the man💯
@@v1xionace965 this is true haha! In my experience flipping it is easy, but you want it to stay infront of you rather than behind, that's the secret to the trick. Easier said than done though.
These tutorials are great I’ve been struggling with heels for a while and this was super helpful. Your tre flip tutorial also made learning tres much easier
36 years old here back in skate after more than 10 years off. I can land more tricks today and i realize this kind of video missed me a lot back in the days... So much easier/faster to learn new tricks now, maybe i'm also older and i'm being more "methodical"... anyway love your content, thanks for the motivation :-)
Agreed. Most are either heel or kick flip. I’m pretty sure I learned kick flip first (back in late 80’s) but always felt more comfortable doing heels. Great tutorial. So much pop.
I have watched neen's tutorial and aaron's, but this one is the one that did it for me! thanks so much, ur recommended foot position worked so well for me! i just went out and skated and landed like 7 regular heel flips and like 2 fakie! ur the man. also you're one of the few people that actually does an impossible correctly so shout out for that too
@Javier Cruz I used to skate 20 years ago. Back then I used my skateboard for 3 years as a way to move around the city with a backpack and punk rock in my ears. No skateparks where available, so I just learned these basic tricks on the sidewalk. During lockdown I started about 3 months ago to skate again, but this time, I am almost 39years old and have a different approach to skateboarding. In 3 months I have landed my first crappy nollie, my first 50-50 and 5-0 on a curb. Which doesn’t really count. I do am proud of dropping in a bowl for the first time, a month ago.
@@SabiaCDO That’s awesome! I’m 35 and just got back into skating after a 20ish year sabbatical. Lol. Sadly better now than I was as a kid. Keep it up! I’m also regular and a heel flipper!
Johnny thank you soo much I’ve had healflip a on and off for about two months now and the tip you said about keeping your weight back alittle helps me sooo much thank you
I gonna learn this, this week! Thanks, Jonny your Tutorials helped me a lot! Now just the weather needs to play with, the snow today came out of nowhere.
Yooo Jonny! I am from Russia, skate at 5 mnt and your videos is the best that I ever seen. after the third mnt I have a dream to skate on your spot! It’s such beautiful!! Please continue learn incredible and unique tricks! From Russia with love 🤙🏿
Heel flips are are a ton of fun and this is a great tutorial! Johnny always kills it! I’ve had a few requests on my channel for a similar video. What specific issues are you guys having with landing them? I keep hearing not enough rotation, of putting back foot down to early. Anything else?
This video helped me land my first heel flip and a lot of clean high ones a couple weeks ago. Now I'm struggling to land a couple when i go to the park lol will get them back after re watching this I'm sure haha. Thanks johnny .
I tried a few the other day with the advice of this video and was one foot landing them within 5 tries, I couldn't believe it lol def will be practicing this one thank you again dude
I thought I had already found the best tutorial videos, but I was wrong. THIS GUY MAKES THE BEST VIDEOS! Amazing explanations and sets expectations of the learning process. Will I succeed? nope, lol. But it'll be fun trying.
@@CALIFORNIAsGAMER hi there, me from 2 years later, i can now consistently kickflip and am now trying to learn heelflips again, wish me luck homie ima try not to credit card
i actually just landed my first heelflip few days ago after 2 years of avoiding it, on that day i had it in lock. yesterday i just couldn’t do a single one lma try your tips, thank you jonny!
Thank you sir! I didn't know about the foot dragging up the board. I always kicked forward but the board wouldn't stay under me. I can now practice properly! 😁
thanks for this video i am still struggling to commit and lean back but i have gotten way closer to landing it rather then before. kickflips are still way harder for me but i do want to be a competitive pro skater so thanks for keeping me rolling
Hi man! U really inspired me with ur "harsdest mullen trick"-video. very nice tutorials! tnx a bunch, u gonna get ppl wondering how the hell i progress so fast
I was trying kickflops for so long not getting any board rotation but then I try heelflip and make the board rotate completely now I will learn heelflip.
I'm the heelflip first type, don't quite have it on lock so this video is very helpful. The real thing i learned though is how my new shoes will look after practice ( nice taste Jonny ;) )
