My dark circles are even darker than yours and have a reddish-purple look and nothing works on them. NOTHING. It's very frustrating. I've found a concealer that takes the color down a notch, but it wears away in patches after about 30 minutes and the difference in the lighter areas compared to the areas with the worn-away concealer is so stark that it makes my under eyes look even worse. I've watched so many videos about "hiding dark circles" and most of the people in them have barely discernible under eye darkness - their before looks like my after. LOL Well, the hunt continues for me. Thanks for the tips, though.
Sir The Lady Since I left this comment I've found a couple of things that work for me. The concealer that wore off and looked patchy and gross is the Maybelline Age Rewind concealer. Now I use a corrector (Pixi or NYX) and then either Maybelline Fit Me or the LA Girl concealer. LOVE them. I do use a setting spray and sometimes bake my face, but I don't usually take the time to do that. Thanks for the input.
Finally someone who understands my dark circles no other beauty gurus understand true dark undereye circles like you do yours are actually very similar to mine. ugh and those hereditary undereye circles make me constantly look like I need sleep I get so embarrassed from ppl asking me all the time if I'm tired
amazononlinesales.com/dr-hauschka-contour-eye-balm it's a little costly but totally worth every penny spent, trust me, try using it for a week or two, u will definitely look years younger
cannsmith No kidding. I have been to every beauty store and counter at department stores and they always want to paste me with thick cosmetics that are $35 minimum per item and of course I need no less than 3 items and none work.
I wish someone would do one with darker dark circles. I feel like mine are a dirtier color. My skin tone light/medium tan. Somewhat like Penelope Cruz. Soo an olive undertone. But I feel like my under eye circles are a muddy brown. I don't see it as a blue toned. Ugh help !
Have you tried an orange undertoned concealer? I Feel like that would still help you. I think the blue/purple under your eyes isn't showing up as clearly as blue/purple because of your olive toned skin. The colors are combining to form a muddy brown, as you put it. You might need an even stronger orange concealer than what Marlena is using here, though.
For purplish/bluish undertones, try an orange corrector. Bobbi Brown does correctors, and the deep peach or deep bisque would work really well. The only problem is correctors sell for 30 - 40 $. If you're looking for a drug store alternative, try using the Maybelline Colour Tattoo Eyeshadow (Fierce Orange shade) as your corrector and then apply a concealer over it. I do it everyday and it works amazingly (I'm a medium tan with purplish dark circles). Plus the eyeshadows are a steal at about 10 $.
Bhargavi I have a question! Is the color tattoo like sparkly? The orange one you use to correct! Cause I wanna try that cause I have horrible dark circles and I have like medium/tan skin so I wanna try that!
Shri Dareddy It's not noticeably shiny, you should alright if you cover up with a decent concealer. I should warn you however that it's relatively hard to apply and you need to definitely use a under-eye cream before the eyeshadow.
miat789 Hey there I am not sure if you even going to read this, but you mentioned your skin tone is similar to Penelope Cruz, well so is mine. Except mine is a tad more olive! I just have a hard time finding good foundations that ACTUALLY match my skin tone. I was hoping if you had any suggestions? Every foundation I use seem too orange or yellow..Im kind of more of olive almost greenish looking
I tried your tip and I just looked like a orange raccoon. Like you a suffer from genetically bad dark circles but unlike most people I don't have that "bag" or fat pad under my eyes so there is no puffiness and strangely enough there is very little blue or purple it's strangely mostly a dark gray/brown/red colour. You know the colour of a really bad bruise after a few days when it starts healing and goes that brownish colour that's the colour of my under eyes. So every colour I use to cover it covers one colour but then enhances another. With my very fair skin tone it's nearly imposable to cover them. I've tried everything and I don't know what to do.
Check out a color wheel, and find the general color that your under eye shadows are. Look on the opposite end of the wheel of that color and you'll find the shade that will cancel it out. I've also found that putting a coral lipstick, acting as a concealer on after foundation but before concealer and then layering concealer that is light over the top, (as long as you're putting thin layer of lipstick and blending well) really does the trick.
If its a reddish brown, you're gonna want to go with green concealer, which is a thing. You put on a layer, blend it pretty well but work at it till it cancels out the reddish brown, and then layer your regular or brightening concealer over the top. Leaving a bit of time for it to set so that its sure not to move around before you apply regular concealer is helpful too.
You might also look into a heavier coverage brightening concealer for under eyes as well. If the texture is too thin, it won't do much for covering highly pigmented under eye circles.
My dark circles are wayyyy darker then yours and even when I put on concealer it still shows and it makes me so insecure because nothing I do covers it. It always looks so weird and noticeable cause one eye is fully cover and the other isn't. Any tips?
So I was reading your comment and realized I used to deal with the same issue. What I do to take care of my dark circles is I try and get a good night's sleep. I use the Origins "Eye Doctor" cream in the morning after showering and then put on Origins concealer and then use a concealer/highlighter from Rimmel to not only conceal but brighten my eyes. If you have puffiness you can use an ice cube before all of this after a nice shower in the morning. Origins also has some cucumber cooling eye mask that decreases the puffiness and the dark circles.
+Anna-Maria Lindberg Not necessarily. Sometimes they're genetic, and sometimes they're cause by things like asthma (like mine) and won't ever completely go away.
I too have been cursed w/ genetically dark circles. My doctor said I basically have zero fat layer under my eyes which makes it drastically worse in appearance =( I have always dotted on a yellow concealer stick & then used a cream concealer overtop to blend, this works like a charm. Never used orange tone but can't wait to try; a little scared since I am fair but if it works for you it will prob work for me... THANKS=)
I used to be very concerned about my genetic dark circles. Tried many things until one day I saw a salesperson at Jcpenney. She had dark circles under her eyes, but somehow they were making her look extremely pretty. They complemented the shade she was wearing. Next time I saw her again and realized that dark circles can enhance beauty. I am no more very concerned about mine unless its a photo shoot.
IF ORANGE DOESN'T WORK FOR YOU- try any yellow based concealer stick 1-2 shades darker than your skin tone, DOT it just lightly over the darkest area (I do 3 dots) and then with a cream concealer formula that matches you or is 1 shade lighter: use over ENTIRE eye area to blend the dots & cover circles. I use foundation BEFORE concealer because I like a light concealer shade over top to double as a highlight when blended down lightly onto apples of cheek;) SET IT ALL W/POWDER ;) Hope that helps someone.....
Cursed with bad genetics and dark circles over here too. THANK YOU! I am so tired of hearing put concealer on you're good. uh, no. This is a great tutorial Have some products to pick up.
This tutorial is extremely helpful....Like you I have lighter skin and super dark circles under my eye's....watching your tutorial I never realized I needed to use a light to medium peach concealer to help really cover the circles....I have had professional makeup artists tell me that lighter concealers do not work well which obviously they do as you just showed in this video....Thank you so much for this tutorial I am getting ready to try this and I am certain it will work great!! You have a new follower and customer!! Glad I came across your videos and info!! :)
The orange thing is actually FACT. As a theater major, I took a stage makeup class, and we were taught to use orange for major concealing, especially to erase brows. The reason it works is because it mimics the orange tint of your skin with all the blood vessels underneath. So after we covered our brows with orange creme, we put the normal base on top, then could place the new "character" brows.
I have the same problem. Concealer dries up and looks wrinkled up no matter what I try. I don't actually have wrinkles under my eyes but after concealer it looks like I do. I'd love to hear how to stop this.
I've watched quite a few tutorials about dark circles. I'm 48, so everything i try, that i've seen not only doesn't cover all the way, but, then when i smile, i appear to have twice as many lines, as i did to start with. Discouraged ;(
If you use liquid concealer to hide your dark circles, you should definitely set it with a powder. That should help reduce the creasing. Also, invest in a high quality concealer for this because good concealers don't crease much :)
Thank you Nainika. True, I need to buy a more my expensive concealer. I heard on one video to put jojoba oil under eye, when it starts increasing. Just a tiny bit, but it definitely helped. :)
I have that concealer and I was disapointed that it didn't work out on my now that you taught how to use I'm sure my dark circles will look 100 times better, Thank you ! Mariela :)
Thank you Marlena!!!! I have a question, I don't own a peachy/orange concealer at the moment, but I have a perfect color matte eyeshadow, could I use that somehow?
Great video Marlena - you mentioned doing the dark concealer in a previous video, and I started doing that and love it!! You are beautiful inside and out! :)
Thankyou Marlena. great tips. I use Pixi Corrector in Peach. I apply my foundation and highlight under my eyes and highest points on my face using the Dream Lumi 1 shade lighter than my skintone. I top it off with my Bare Minerals Well Rested powder very lightly using a soft eyeshadow blending brush...I've been wanting to try Eve Pearl for some time now. I think I'll buy it. You're the best and I love your makeup products. Great quality. xoxo Kat
Ok, so this is probably a stupid question, but I noticed you mentioned "if you guys don't wear foundation..." Normally, I would think if one isn't wearing foundation, then you're not putting on ANY makeup, other than perhaps mascara, because everything else without foundation seems to look off. But, in this video we're talking about putting on concealers and such, so I'm wondering what options would one have if one didn't want to wear foundation. I've been looking into weaning off wearing foundation so I'm curious, but pressed powder by itself seems to make me look dusty or ashy... maybe that's just me (or bad luck with products), though. Great videos, by the way!
+Mara Castro you could be blessed with great skin and so could just wear tinted moisturiser or just BB creams instead of foundation, I have great skin but can run to sensitive/dry so I go to my fave moisturiser mixed with BB . With makeup there are no hard and fast rules ...I even use aftersun lotions as body moisturisers because they have all the good stuff for your skin and are super hydrating
I think it's because they're so creamy, they tend to slip and slide around your skin so it creases into your fine lines. I have fine lines under my eyes too and I avoid using really thick and creamy concealers. I just use a drier yet thinner concealer so it sticks better onto my skin and not creases into the lines. Then I set it with a mattifying powder ( Rimmel Stay Matte Powder ) to make sure that there's no extra oil that's gonna make the concealer crease
You are my favorite youtuber ! I feel like we can relate so much from the hair loss to dark circles, I have Lupus and Kidney Failure but I still love to get cute and surprise people when they find out About me! You give me hope that people can change their style if they want and not to care what others think ! Take Care Marlena !!!
You can try not to put any powder at all onto the area. Normally, it takes just a little bit, as the girl suggested here, but maybe your skin doesn't need any powder at all. Also, NEVER put foundation on the area aroun d the eues. only concealer
I do have dark cycle problem. Thanks for your tips! I love your video, your makeup tutorial is so technical! It really helps us a lot! I filmed some makeup tutorial and outfit idea video too. I would love if you could check it out.
Thank you for this video. I just tried your method and it worked great. I never thought of using something else orange or peach toned in place of concealer. I didn't have an orange or peach toned concealer so I used my Tarte Tipsy Creme Blush stick and it worked perfectly! ;)
My personal trick to this is a tiny bit of eyeshadow primer, believe it or not it works. Also works wonders for the 'smile line' when your foundation creases after smiling ;)
I always need all the help I can get with things like this because I have like serious hollows under my eyes. A lot of people don't have anything like that and I'm so jealous of them. :/
you're officially my new hero^^ :D i was looking for helpful tips to hide my eyecircles soo bad but non worked yet for me.... but this is seriously great thanks :D *thumb up*
Thank You SO MUCH for doing this vid Marlena.....I live w/ Chronic Pain and usually have some sort of a Migraine every day....( on Meds obviously ) BUT my eye circles are So So Dark....I usually look sicker than I am sometimes. I'm DEF going to try this method now. I have heard SO many other ways mentioned on Diff RU-vid Channels and it really helped seeing how dark yours are and how you virtually made them disappear w/ the makeup and method you used. Sending MUCH LOVE from COLD STL MO!!!! Hugs Marlena:)D
wow you're really pretty. I saw your video and this is the first video ever i saw from you cause i just found your channel lol you look really pretty naturally!
This trick is amazing. I learned it from your nude makeup look and immediately bought ay peach corrector. Now i can hide those panda eyes! Hehe... Thanks!
You are so wonderful! I'm learning all about make up with you. Funny.....I can't watch anybody else! You really know how to teach!!! Thank you so much. Wishing you the best!
This was just awesome! I have dark skin and quite dark circles, and all the other makeup artists tips just didn't work for my skin tone. Now It finally DID! THNX a LOT! Lov ya!
I've tried everything. I've even gone to MAC and bought products they recommended to me. Practically everything just makes it look lighter grey, like you mentioned. They all tell me that's the best I can get with the "big" diffeence between my face shade and under eye area shade. I'm an NC20 with MAC and they recommended an NW20 Pro long wear conceal to brighten up the area, but to me it doesn't complete help. Everything else makes it look bad and noticeable because it's not hiding and then you notice it more due to you trying to cover it up. I've tried everything when it comes to drugstore and few high end products. Well to be honest, I got to the stores and the people apply it on my face so I can see how it looks. I figure why buy something that won't work. People recommend products to me, but either it's too light or the next shade is too dark and EVERY SINGLE TIME IT DOESN'T HIDE MY DISCOLORATION AND I'M TOLD THAT'S THE BEST I CAN GET. I have a severe chronic illness so I don't get any sleep, Marlena. My day to day life is hard. Makeup allows me to feel normal and even thought I can never get id of the pain, makeup allows me to feel pretty and it changes you mood if you feel nice and pretty compared to lay in bed and letting the pain run your life. Please please let me send you a picture so you can see the problem I'm having and the discoloration. I would really appreciate you help on this. I've tweeted you a picture and DM on Instgram and emailed you but I get you are a busy woman. I don't even know if you will read this, but I figured I should try. You are the first beauty guru I ever followed and my love for makeup mostly happened after following you. Between the makeup and your weight loss story, you are my inspiration. I'm also trying to lose weight which is hard due to my severe chronic illness. I love you brand. I'm tying to save up to get your brushes, eyeshadows, and pigments but it's hard to do when you can no longer work. Please help me with this. I know the Eve Pearl concealer is practically the best and it's been on my wish list for so long due to my issue with all the other concealers and people telling me I need to settle. I even tweeted Eve Pearl to find out what shade the recommend for me and they said light/medium, but again it's hard to get when you can no longer work. I had to quit my job and school when I got sick and tha was after completing only one term in college. This summer I'm taking my last few classes to get my Associate degree finally at the age 23 (my birthday was on May 18th). I've been taking classes online off and on due to my health issues. Between not working and medical bills it's hard, but I'm saving little by little to get things from you makeup brand and the eve pearl concealer, and to be honest an iPad lol. I've always wanted one and asked for one on my birthday but between out move to another state which we are still in the process of doing and my medical bills, it's just hard so I couldn't get it. Maybe one day. Anyways, I hope you read this and are willing to let me send you a picture. My friends and family sad my dark circles aren't that bad, but yes my face is very pale compared to that area so...I don't know. I'm just really hope and pray you read this and help me on what to do and get for this.
Based on watching a great many and variety of your videos, I recently purchased the Eve Pearl Salmon Concealer (light) from your website, amongst other things. I am super-skeptical as well as having very reactive skin, so I'm slow to purchase new face products. I'm also not very you-tube or facebook oriented either - so, it's big deal for me to write anything here at all (who cares what I think?), however, I must tell you that I'm immensely impressed with this product!
i have very dark circles because i have a condition called mild acanthosis and it's so hard to cover. even make up artists at malls cant do it, it just ends up looking cakey and too light compared to my skin tone (medium dark). this probably vvould vvork on your very mild dark circles (light compared to mine) but is there something that is even more coverage that vvould vvork on mine?
I have started doing this and it works beautifully! Best tutorial for under-eye circles (although I use a yellow concealer because I couldn't find an orange one in my price range and I didn't know about the NYX one). You are so cute with your slip-ups when talking :) I always catch myself mixing up words lol. It may sound odd of me to comment on this, but I enjoy seeing the true human side to everyone :) LOVE your videos! I am adding a few of your products to my wish list for Christmas hehe ;)
Marlena, I have been a subscribers to your channel for about 2 years. I order from the MUG store and what I love more than anything is the stippling brush. Thank you for this video....as a Black female, I already own the Eve Pearl concealer in dark and never really used it ( probably because I didn't know how). I saw this video on yesterday, I was going out on last night and tried this method and this was absolutely the BEST!!! Again "Thank You".....
I've gotten to the point where even if I do a really good job of hiding my purple under eye circles, it just looks so fake and weird. I'm so used to having the 'shadows' under my eyes that I don't like how I look without them lol. They're not VERY dark but they're noticeable.. but for some reason I don't mind them there anymore & only conceal if I'm tired & trying to "fake awake" lol. I agree 100% with the orange/peach concealer on blue/purple circles. Green works the same way to combat redness.
You kind of shamelessly bragged how you gonna tell how to conceal, and how others teach you wrong, but you are wrong as well. first of all, not everyone has got blue under-eye bags, some people have purple, others even green, orange is not gonna work for them, second of all, putting very light concealer and setting it with very fair coloured powder (like a white e/s) is gonna make you look swollen as you HAVE to bring the highlighting trick down the cheek, otherwise it will look very ashy.
Mine aren't so bad for a middle eastern woman but many, like my mom, have literally raccoon eyes. I would love to know of products to help treat it. If not get rid of but at least lighten it a bit especially for someone like my mom. Many have told me the benefit cosmetics eye cream but I don't know since her dark circles literally are raccoon eye resemblance. Please do a video on products to treat this problem
Thank you for making this video. Drugstore products don't work for me. I'm middle eastern and we legit have dark circles. It's frustrating watching videos of people who THINK they have dark circles and use a highlighting product or some random thing from the drugstore. It all makes my under eye area grey! I literally feel like I'm having to find the person supposed "bad dark circles" they cry about having. It amazes me how many people think they seriously have "bad" dark circles.
This is great advice, it's sad it doesn't work for me though, in fact nothing works for me. I have such bad circles that my under eyes look like I have been punched out and have bruised back eyes. I was born with them like this and when people look at baby pics of me, I always get asked why I have 2 black eyes. My doc says surgery is the only way they can be fixed. I have tried every salmon colored product and nothing covers them:(
@JustTakeMeDancing: If you have a Target store near you, they sell an AMAZING potted concealer called "Brightening Peach" by Pixi. I bought it about a week ago and I LOVE IT!!! There are reviews on here if you search for it...it is the only concealer I have found that works and stays put without getting cakey. It was $15...and a little goes a LONG WAY with it! Hope this helps you:)
Can anyone help me with my problem? I have deep set eyes which give me dark circles. I am an extremely fair skinned red head. Lighter than anyone else I've met. I used the light revlon concealer marlena used as my concealer because for me, their lightest shade is dark for me, but it's too dark. I guess this might not help me because I'm just that light. any ideas?
the orange/peach actually works very well for purple and green... Purple and green are secondary colors. But the opposite of them would be in the range of pink/yellow/& red... which again proves that peach and orange works perfectly fine. Also the warmth helps cancel out the colors. And if the colors she suggested don't work, what then would, oh omniscient one?
What shade Eve Pearl concealer should I get if I'm and NC20 girl? Also, what shade Makeup Geek eyeshadow should I use to brighten the area? I'm horrible at picking my shade. I've been wanting the Eve Pearl concealer but don't know what shade to get. My family is Middle Eastern and women have bad dark circles.
Hi Marlena! Nice video! Thanks for the tip! I have bought the peachy corrector by Bobbie Brown, the Mineralize concealer by MAC and the Bisque powder concealer by Bare Minerals. I heard they're the best. However, the work awfull for me. They get into my fine lines, they look cakey and dry. I always use an eye cream before I do my make up. Any helpful suggestions please???
Thank You, Thank You, Thank YOU!! I have needed this tutorial for a long time. I have heard you say to use a dark concealer first and then a lighter one several times before but for some reason, I never remember that when it comes time to shop for new make-up or apply it. Making my list now and shopping tomorrow! Thank You again!! :)
I happen to have purplish circles under my eyes, plus slight creasing/wrinkles... I've tried Eve Pearl before and with my pale skin even the lightest color comes across very orange. If i try to cover with a lighter concealer, then it's all cakey and settles into the wrinkles... do you have any suggestions? :) Thank you!
Really liked this video, even though I'm low-maintenance, and not a huge makeup user. I've had dark circles, and darkness between my eyes and nose, since I was a toddler. I use Almay Smart Shade concealer. It doesn't hide everything 100%, but it hides enough.
TO COVER REDNESS: use a mint or green concealer omfg it works. Do the same as above, but instead of peach concealer, use green. Hope this helps the redness people like me
Very few things make skin look better when you inspect close-up - but this does! Aside from a softer appearing texture under my eye, it also completely brightens and covers the slight darkness under my eye. Thank-you for your advice and for sending it all the way to Australia. x
I have the same problem. When my dark circles look really bad and my Covergirl/Olay concealer doesn't work too well, I only use my Loreal True Match Mineral Foundation. Dab the powder on your finger, and dab it fully under your eyes. It worked really well for me!
This is really great! I have horribly bad dark circles under my eyes and no amount of hydration or sleep gets rid of them. I try covering them with makeup but they still have a darkness about them sadly. Thank you very much for this. I will have to try it out in one of my future videos!♥
Drugstore options will b pixi cream concealer..maybelline drem lumi also has one shade which is peach..kryolan concealer wheel..oriflame tea tree concealer stick is awesum but hard to find.n olay n covergirl concealer balm stick also has a peachy shade and is good if u have fine lines
hi.....thank you so much for sharing these tips...this tutorial is super helpful for people like me who suffer from dark circles... love all your videos/ tutorial... big fan of your work... keep up the good work... really appreciate your efforts.... stay blessed :)
This is great. Random request: could you do a tutorial or video recommending rose gold colored/inspired eye shadows? When I say rose gold, I'm thinking Essie's Pennytalk. So sorry if you already have and I just missed it. Thank you for inspiring me to try and not give up on makeup!
great tips! ive never been able to cover my dark circles completely without looking cakey and heavy in that area, mostly because i just pile on layers of a skin toned concealer. so im definitely going to try the orange tinted corrector and white eyeshadow trick :)
Hi Marlena! Love your videos. This is so helpful. Something I've struggled with forever, also. Curious...Is this the Eve Pearl Dual Salmon Concealer in Medium/Tan or the single Salmon Concealer? I'd love to try it. Please let me know which shade also. Thanks!
I have to show my friend this video! We had a discussion on why I use an orange tinted concealer and why she uses a light concealer. I trust everything you say, but I also learned that orange and blue are opposite the color wheel in art class, so I know your method works for my dark circles!
