You did such a nice job filming I thought you had hired a camera man! I'm glad you explained that-I enjoyed your reflective talk, & I teared up a little. You do have so many blessings, a wonderful family, your health, and I am guessing an awesome church family, but I'm pretty sure you bring a lot of joy to a lot of people with your humor, wit, and creativity. Keep inspiring us to get out there & explore!

You are seriously a trooper man! Doing all that strenuous hiking consecutive days in a row really pushes you to the limits.A lot of 21-year-olds can’t even do what you do. I’ve never been to the north rim before but it was really nice to see through your camera. It does seem a lot greener than the other rims. When you were showing the old footage from 2013 and you went back to your current footage you really see the difference in the camera quality over the last five years. Anyways brother thanks for sharing your adventure and congratulations on completing all these grueling hikes

Weather can really make a break a hike like this! So much logistics goes into it. We have never been on the North Rim - much greener than the South Rim. No direct sunlight is good when hiking for so long. Awesome that you did that hike with Kayla - happy birthday to her! Fantastic accomplishment Randy, especially given you had just done a similar hike on the South Rim 3 days earlier. Hands down and hat off Sir!

Randy, I always suggest the North Rim when people say they are going to GCNP. Less crowds, bison and more Ponderosa. The campground has a few sites overlooking the rim. There’s nothing better than sitting at your campfire and watching the sunset over the canyon. Keep up the great work!

You gotta, different in so many ways from the south rim. That rain came the next day for me in AZ, which was pretty much a "wash-out" for the entire day. Hit Navajo NM only. I was thankful to visit about 12 National sites on this AZ trip. Plan to get Vermilion Cliffs up next.

How much time do you figure filming it adds? And its great that you share your philosophy of "feed the spirit with nature " as I do... Wish I could still hike that much ! It was great when I could ! And maybe I will again, with the help of the Fuzzy one.
@AmericasParks
@AmericasParks 5 лет назад
That's a great question. I'd say the filming in general adds about 10% to the time and 5% to increased distance. Obviously, easier to pull this off when I am alone, less exasperating my guests. Hope the health and hiking returns!

Americas Parks Trump just added the 418th National Park unit - Camp Nelson Nat’l Monument in Kentucky. We have 4 more units to visit in order to visit all 418 - Camp Nelson, Canaveral, Dry Tortugas and Big Cypress. About 43 people have ever visited all 400+ units. Next project - National parks of the world. Hahaha

@@NationalParksExplorers That would be an adventurous undertaking! :) Hard to keep up with the additions. I doubt I'll make it beyond 300. At least the last 3 on your list are local. Get to Cypress before the pythons fully take over. :(

Or add some great state parks! Start with one state and move on! My suggestion: start with one state on each coast, then move on; Utah in the west & Pa in the east (my home state). Coral Pink Sand Dunes would be good start in Utah & Hickory Run (the boulder field) & Ricketts Glen (waterfalls) won't disappoint you. Enjoy & stay safe until the trails reopen.

Never been to GC. Say I am 2 hours away in Utah and my only chance to see it is the North Rim..and I’d have just a few hours with my kids 10 and 12... do I go? If so what is the one or two things you’d do?

Update, I asked for an extra day off work... so maybe almost a full day. We shall see. :)

I'd absolutely go! The kids are a little young to appreciate it in it's glory, but I trust they'd still have a good time. Hit the two main viewpoint area. Try to plan a short hike into the inner canyon.

We hiked to Coconino Overlook(recommended by ranger due to time of day and rain in forecast) down into the canyon. Wasn’t very far, but really did make a difference in our enjoyment of the canyon. It was one of my daughters highlights of the trip. You were correct on hiking into the canyon for sure.

Happy Birthday from 2023 i have a question I understand the north rim is 1000 ft higher why does nobody hike south to north is that the main reason
@AmericasParks

Hiking S-N is of course possible, but (as you mentioned) it adds about another 1K feet in elevation so it seems everyone goes N-S. Maybe the shuttle schedule has something to do with it as well???

So... the grand canyon is beautiful and all but I couldnt stop thinking about who filmed him... or does he just put the camera down facing him and walk by or away from it to get those shots? Lol
@AmericasParks

Yeah, do all that filming myself! It probably adds about 10% to the hike! lol!

Great Solo hike enjoy it so much , best your final message ! May I add God creation written in Genesis 1 :-) In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. And God said, "Let there be light," and there was light.

Had seen one of your videos and found it fun and informative, then found the Trump ad before this video. I don't know if you have any control over the ads they show on your videos, but I would never support anything in connection with that incompetent, criminal, fascist. Unsubscribed!

I specified "family-friendly," nonpolitical ads. RU-vid still seems to do whatever it wishes. Not my doing - it's the unfortunate fallout of the Internet.
